"Border searches spur legal action by Muslims" from the IndyStar with thanks to Nicolei:
American Muslim and civil liberties groups have filed a lawsuit in federal court claiming that Muslims who attend religious conferences outside the United States are subject to increased and unfair scrutiny upon their return to the country. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, was brought by five American citizens who are Muslim.
In January, they were detained, interrogated, photographed and fingerprinted when returning to the United States from an annual conference, called "Reviving the Islamic Spirit," in Toronto.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed the suit Wednesday on behalf of the five complainants.
The five plaintiffs, all of whom have valid U.S. passports, were among dozens who were stopped at the Buffalo border crossing.
They were questioned, some of them for as long as 61/2 hours, and had their cell phones confiscated when they tried to contact lawyers or the media, the complaint states.
The suit, which names Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff as well as customs and border officials, claims that the men and women "were subjected to this treatment solely because they had attended the conference."
The complaint asks the court to issue a declaration that the border officials acted unlawfully, as well as an injunction against repeating the practices around other conferences.
After the January episode, CAIR set up a hot line in case similar incidents occurred when Muslims returned from hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca...

Have you guys read the Wikipedia entries on moral relativism and cultural relativism? They are really quite good and cover all the angles. Check it out:
Cultural Relativism:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_relativism
Moral Relativism:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moral_relativism
The analysis of the links between cultural and moral relativism in the Cultural Relativism article is especially illuminating as they discuss how the Universal Declaration on Human Rights was affected by the views of cultural relativists.

These claims provoked an immediate response by a number of anthropologists. Julian Steward (who, as a student of Alfred Kroeber and Robert Lowie, and as a professor at Columbia University, was situated firmly in the Boasian lineage) suggested that the first claim "may have been a loophole to exclude Germany from the advocated tolerance," but that it revealed the fundamental flaw in moral relativism: "Either we tolerate everything, and keep hands off, or we fight intolerance and conquest -- political and economic as well as military -- in all their forms." Similarly, he questioned whether the second principle means that anthropologists "approve the social caste system of India, the racial caste system of the United States, or many other varieties of social discrimination in the world" (Steward 1948). Steward and others (e.g. H.G. Barnett 1948) argued that any attempt to apply the principle of cultural relativism to moral problems would only end in contradiction: either a principle that seems to stand for tolerance ends up being used to excuse intolerance, or the principle of tolerance is revealed to be utterly intolerant of any society that seems to lack the (arguably, Western) value of tolerance. They concluded that anthropologists must stick to science, and engage in debates over values only as individuals.

yea, CAIR knows that their cover is blown now....maybe its about time that the US government gets wise to what these so called " religious conferences" really teach.....hate and violence towards ALL non-Muslim citizens, in the USA and the rest of the world....who the hell does cair rhink they are fooling???....did CAIR stand up with all Mulsims who live in the USA and decry Mulsim terrorists in the Middle East who commit terrible crimes, did they say that these Islamic terrorists are not what all Mulsims are about???....nope not a single whisper, and they have the balls to think Americans arent going to start wondering about Muslims in this country???....see, in America we have the right to think for ourselves, to try and find out the answers and the truth....these dumb ass Mulsims under Islam have NO rights to find out the truth and thet are scared to death that we will find out the truth about Islam....ITS NOT A RELIGION OF PEACE AND TOLERANCE, ITS A RELIGION OF DEATH AND DESTRUCTION....Knowledge is Power

I have a valid US passport....I am a citizen of the US....I have been stopped, questioned, had my car searched at that same bridge(why was I stopped, who knows they never give a reason unless they are arresting you, and I have a friend that is an inspector who says that they do carry out random searches for no reason at all)...will CAIR and the ACLU want to hear about that....likely not because I am a blonde, blue eyed, white, unvieled non muslim...who also understands that the searching and questioning is a sign of the times, and I am prepared, as a good citizen to do anything in my power to help ensure the safety of the country, which includes putting up with longer lines and waits at border entries and yes being searched and questioned. Those agents had every right to search that group and view any and all literature and/or other items obtained at the "conference", and the lenghth of time they were kept at the immigration office COULD(not saying it is) very well be a direct result of their level of co-operation with officials...its true, get smart or cocky with the agents and you might as well plan on being there for the day.

So with all of the above comments, the question is, will the Department of Homeland Security fold to their demands? News at 11.

Whan CAIR and the ACLU start denouncing the Islamics who commit acts such as that Russian school - then I will start listening to what they have to say. When the MSM starts calling a terrorist a terrorist and an Islamic an Islamic then I will listen to what they have to say.
Until then fu'k-em.

What exactly is this Islamic spirit that needs reviving? Does it include the spirit of jihad? If so, then don't be so shocked when we revive the spirit of the Crusades and the spirit of victory born of the crushing defeat of the jihadi despots of the Barbary states by the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The evidence is irrefutable that the 19 suicide hijackers on 9/11 were just acting out their "revived Islamic spirit".
By flying passenger aircraft into the Twin Towers and Pentagon did they commit a crime? No, they did not commit a crime, they committed an act of war. The rules are different in wartime. Some civil liberties will suffer as they always do in time of war. The Constitution for the United States even has a provision for the complete suspension of civil liberty altogether in cases of rebellion or invasion. When the war is over, our peacetime civil liberties will be fully restored, they always have been.

Strip search everyone at the border, especially good looking blonds...just kidding, USAgirls attitude is commendable. It may be that some people are singled out for more attention than others...This is a good thing...it idicates to me that someone is doing their job. We need more of that at the borders, air ports ect. Obviously there is not enough of this or we would not have citizens patroling the borders of Arizona, USA. Entering the US, should be like applying for a big bank loan. If there's any question about your credit, you're out...

I sleep quite well knowing these people were held and questioneed for 6.5 hours...

I had heard the governmet was going to change their policy in this regaurd.
The FBI 's policy is to not look at or suspect Muslim while investigating Islamic terrorism.
The Head of the FBI wont even say those words in the same sentance and the president is an islamic toadie.

Whining obstructionists trying to waste more money and time in the legal system by throwing (de facto jihadist-assisting) monkey wrenches in the works.
And this is how they demonstarte their loyalty to the U.S.?
Boo hoo & hoo.

Why doesn't CAIR and the ACLU take this up with Osama bin Laden, Hasan Nasrallah or Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzouq? We all have them to thank for this, not the DHS.

And what did the ACLU and their honored friends at CAIR have to say about this:
http://www.freedomhouse.org/religion/news/bn2005/bn-2005-01-28.htm
Not a thing. You see, this isn't hate-mongering, much less a violation of international human rights law. It's just devout Muslims spreading the Religion of Peace. Nothing to see here, move along, folks....

Are the Saudi drunks still financing CAIR?
They're getting money from somewhere.

LOL
It's like an American Communist group suing the government during the Cold War, for having its border patrol scrutinize Communist sympathizers who leave the country to participate in a global conference discussing how to spread Communism into the US, and other Capitalist democracies.
This is getting to be amusing. CAIR and the ACLU can sue all they want, but they're standing on thin ice as more people realize who they really are and what they truly represent.

I have a cunning idea, when muslims go on their hajj...just stay in Mecca. Do not come back to the west, we are going to hassle you at the borders. Mecca is sacred to you; stay there.

The event in Toronto had Tariq Ramadan as a speaker, the website pointed out that there would be comments about the future of Islam in Canada and the USA,along with the duties of Muslims to perform Dawah.
The event was also on Dec.24,25,26th of 04 and
the local paper mentioned it covered "Jesus in the Quran",which we all know now is the catch-phrase for "Christian worship a false Messiah"
and are really Muslims.
They picked Christmas eve, day, and boxing day
to hold these conference, imagine Christians bashing Muhammed during Ramadan or on Muhammed's birthday. The 50,000 seat stadium only drew about 6000 people over three days and a few Islamic Org.'s in Canada avoided promoting they event.
CAIR was involved in it and is the main proponent for Shariah-Law in Canada for female Muslims, the event was a Christian-Bashing hatefest, and the media .wav files have our onw Mayor bowing down to Allah and falling for the tripe that Muslims in Toronto are victims of "Racism".
It was a bit odd that Muslims were upset about the delay in getting into a Country
they hate so much.

Pressure has to be applied on the politicians to amend Title 42 that enables the ACLU to be paid from the tax money.
Asa long as they can afford to sue everybody at no cost to them, they will continue to support anyone with an anti-american agenda.

Who do they want them to question, old women coming back with cheap medicine? Great idea ACLU! Let the Border Patrol be distracted searching seniors and families with a bunch of kids while we let a bunch of terrorists in rental trucks to cross the border with hate filled propaganda, explosives, and more terrorists in the cargo hold.

Allah-sux: They've got a religion for overripe rebellious adolescent boys who have to be either in your face or cringing before you uder the threat of a bad grade or a good thrashing.
Hey, did someone say it's Mo's birthday? How about a mixed swim in that murky pool where the sun supposedly sets in order to celebrate the event? It's probably a few hours from sundown in some parts of the world yet.

The only solution is for the US to re-consider all the decisions it has made regarding citizenship for muslims, a re-screening process. You can't give citizenship to people who have a greater loyalty to religion that want to destroy the US.
