PA: The more things change...

...the more Abbas looks just like Arafat. "Palestinians say won't disarm militants," from Reuters, with thanks to Rick:

GAZA - The Palestinian Authority reiterated Wednesday it had no intention of disarming militants despite constant Israeli calls for such a move and a recent pledge to crack down on unlicensed weapons.

The announcement came amid growing friction between armed factions and security forces following the arrest of two Hamas men after a gunfight Monday night. The militants were accused of planning to attack Israel in defiance of a cease-fire.

"We have no intention of withdrawing arms of resistance," Rashid Abu Shbak, the head of the internal Preventive Security Service, told a news conference in Gaza.

Abu Shbak specifically rejected Israel's request for a start to disarmament before it hands over the last three of five West Bank cities it was to return to Palestinian security control under a February truce agreement.

Abu Shbak said militants must still honor their commitment to the cease-fire agreed by President Mahmoud Abbas and should not take their weapons out in public.

"Arms of resistance should not be displayed in streets. Arms of resistance should not be used in family feuds. Arms of resistance should not kill a woman who goes out with her fiance," he said, referring to the recent killing by two Hamas militants of a woman they accused of immoral behavior...

Oh, good. I feel so much better now that that's been made clear.

Isn't one of the hallmarks of a legitimate, responsible government the "monopoly on violence"? Without that, the situation on the ground is anarchy.

I am forming a new party:

" Armed Restistance against PA - Terror"= Short ART.

The Party will free Israel of Arab terrorists and will reduce terror in the vicinity.

We will take no prisoners and Jerusalaim will be the capitol of the Jewish state.

Any buyers?

Why should they dis-arm? They have a script they are following and dis-arming is not part of it...The games not over till they drive Israel out or kill all of them...The Palestinian Authorities own declarations affirm that. Why would they be smuggling in missiles and such from Egypt, why are they purchasing heavy armament?...The whole Palestinian game is based on a little song and dance for the folks, a little word trickery and a lot of Brayism...as described in above article...there is a reason why Sabu, "The Thief of Baghdad", was a pick pocket...bow and smile...pick your pocket...It's all starting to come together now...

Basically they are testing the waters.
So far comment from the US on the revolving door for terrorists has been lacking.
If anything, the offer of arms by the military guy (West?) liasing with Abbas will make it even worse. He's not behaving to plan so give him some more money?
They are testing American resolve and any apparent waivering just boosts the morale of those watching from Iraq and elsewhere.
If the US does does not keep to Bush's pronouncements with respect to the Palestinians, which in fact seems to be a sort of dress rehearsal for US policy, the US is going to have a longer battle in Iraq with Syria and Iran taking full advantage.
Now that Bolton and the other guy have been removed from influencing GWB it seems that State has him to themselves.

duh_swami,
The antics of Bray and others continue because they have seen that while the President sends out a message, State immediately counteracts it with its behaviour.
The Admin cannot seem to understand that they have to prosecute this asymetric war with the utmost seriousness.
Bush is trying to execute a peace plan and State lets the Egyptians torpedo it with arms smuggling.
And the US is supplying them and the Saudis with even more sofisticated weapons.
What sort of message is that?

Disarmament of the "militants" is of course, stipulated in Phase I of the Roadmap and had been previously agreed by the PA in exchange for Israel turning over control of WB cities to the Pals.

But for the MSM -- AFP, Reuters, AP -- it is always, "Israel calls", "Israel requests", "Israel demands".

Those cantankerous Israelis; always making unreasonable demands.

A singular benefit of having Dish Network (besides saving money and having more selection) is being able to receive Link TV and in particular the four times daily broadcast of Mosaic (selected news from 15 government and private mid east countries, including Israel).

Hebrew, Farsi and Arabic are faithfully translated into English.

Why I mention that is because almost daily I get to hear Abbas in his own words (and often in English, which he speaks).

He is indeed the reincarnation of Arafat, and like Arafat he blames Israel for everything. His terrorist thugs launch a mortar attack, blow up some civilians, Israel retaliates and Abbas blames Israel for breaking the "calm". The current "truce" (which is non existent) is called by the Arabs "fighters respite" (Heard that phrase from Al Alam - Iranian news).

It matters not the situation or circumstances, it is always the fault of the other (Jews or Americans).

In the Arab/Muslim mind if I were to kill one in self defense, I would be guilty of martyring an Arab.

Arab/Muslims don't get killed or commit suicide, they are "martyred".

In their lexicon they aren't suicide bombings they are "martyrdom operations".

And how they suffer. I watched 30 seconds of an interview on Abu Dhabi TV today, and I heard the word suffer, suffering five times.

Cynic...You may be right about the Bush administration getting its act together...However, the antics of Bray and others like him is not dependent on American policy. For instance, the antics of Brays bro's, the muslim Janjaweed, slaughtering and displacing thousands in Sudan, has nothing to do with US ploicy. Thats one example of many.
Bray and his ilk have been culturally and religiously brainwashed since birth. Racially and religiously they have been trained to push the agenda of Allah since Mohammad. They have been trained to lie, cheat, steal, torture and murder in the name of Allah. Today the complaint and justification of jihad lay with Bush, Sharon, America and Israel with a few others thrown in for good measure. Tomorrow it will be something else. It will always be something else untill Islam is established worldwide as the supreme religion...
