From Middle East News Online, "YEMENI CELL TARGETS WESTERN INTERESTS IN GULF," with thanks to Jeffrey Imm.
CAIRO - An Al Qaida cell was said to have planned to attack Western interests throughout the Gulf with stolen Saudi missiles.The cell was based in Yemen and planned to attack U.S. and Western targets in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. The Sunni group was said to be aligned with Al Qaida and maintained access to the Saudi military.
Eight purported members of the cell have been prosecuted on charges of terrorist offenses and attempting to seize military equipment. They were being tried in a Sanaa security court that has detailed the charges against the defendants.
On May 9, a Yemeni prosecutor said the cell also planned to attack the United States and European Union states with surface-to-air missiles and rocket-propelled grenades obtained from Saudi military supplies. The prosecutor identified the Al Qaida cell as being part of the "General Organization of Unification Battalions."...

The Khalif of Mecca has personally condemned them as 'infidel swine' and has given his blessings....
They will not get an Islamic burial for insulting Islam.

Has anyone ever even tried to flush a book down the commode? Try a tennis shoe and get an idea.
The allegation is preposterous.
This is the latest in a propaganda war by Islamists to inflame the Muslim world.
And it can only work to the benefit of the west, let the Muslims start the fires. This fire has spread to Jakarta where there are anti American riots in the Street.
What bothers me is that Condi Rice, stood up and annnounced that the government will "look into it" that America is based on the right of people to freely practise their religion.
What has flushing a Koran down the commode (which is impossible) have to do with inhibiting the practise of religion.
She has "blessed the Qur'an" as holy and untouchable, to appease the Muslims.
She should have confronted the allegation head on as ridiculous and irrelevant as "disrespect towards a book" is not an infringement of religious freedom, and unless carried about by the government (like the NAZI book burning) an individual act.
They better come after me. I'm going to use my copy of the Koran as toilet paper, even if it causes burns to the bun.

On topic, Al Qaida (word means The Base) is merely a euphemism,not an organization. It is just one of hundreds if not thousands of cells spun off by the Muslim Brotherhood and the Islamic Revolution in Iran (Hizbollah and Islamic Jihad amongst others).
Americans tend to think in heirarchial structures and top down organizations with charts and chains of command.
It is not that way at all with these Islamist groups, they come and go, they change names and leadership, they are extremely fluid.
The best analogy is a wasp nest. One nest will breed ten more nests, kick a nest and the wasps move on to create more nests.
Anyway Ayatollah al Hakim, one of the leaders of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, which is allied to and has ties with the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iran, was on the air yesterday condemning the "remnants of the Ba''athist regime and "other groups" (whom he refrained from specifying since they are Sunni/Wahhabi) for trying to destroy Iraq.
He also expressed dismay at bin Laden, for issuing at fatwa of kufr against the Iraqi nation and people for voting in the last election. "This is the first time an entire nation has been the subject of a fatwa" said al Hakim.
Meanwhile the Sunni/Wahhabi Jihadis have stepped up attacks on civilians, the blew up a car bomb in a market, killing hundreds, one eyewitness reported that people were burned to the bone.
Things are going to get interesting. The Shi'a have no experience in governing, police, intelligence or army command and control, as Saddam had excluded them from such positions, too busy filling the mass graves of al Hilah with Shi'a bodies.
The Sunnis have all of the experience, and it is the Sunni's that have all of the munitions that they use for bombs and ammo, and it is the Sunni's who were the Mukhabarat and trigger fingers of Saddam.
The Sunni's are psychotic murderers, but so are the Shi'a.
It's a no win situation, either Iraq capitulates to the Ba'athists and Jihadis or the Iranian arm of the Shi'a retain control of Iraq.
If Iran moves in, even surreptitiously with advice and loan of security and military leadership, Iraq will wind up a carbon copy of Iran.
The SAVAK (security police of the Shah) has been replaced by the EVAK (Security police of the mullahs), and Evin Prison has become an even more horrible place of torture and murder than it was under the Shah.

Yes, I'll just bet it was hard to get those missiles out of SA. The Saudis are so two faced, I can't see how they keep up the pretense of being on our side.

Al-Qaeda (Arabic: "the foundation" or "the base") is the name given to a worldwide network of allied militant Islamist organizations. Built on the mujahideen resistance movement against the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, it seeks to defend, via military and terrorist tactics, other Islamic communities that it considers to be under siege, including those in Kashmir, Chechnya, and Palestine.
"al-Qaeda" is the name of the organization used in popular culture, the organization does not use the name to formally refer to itself. The name "al-Qaeda" was coined by the United States government based on the name of a computer file of bin Laden's that listed the names of contacts he had made in Afghanistan, which talks about the organization as "the base" of the jihad.

Since Muslims are notorious iconoclasts [they blew up the Afghan 'Buddhas of Bamiyan' with howitzers to show their contempt for religious symbols], they have no ground to get 'righteous' when their own 'holy' object is given the same treatment.
The Koran is not Allah.
No man-made things are sacred. And the thoughts in the book cannot be burned or flushed away, because they are not on the pages.
The fragile psychological state of too many Muslim men seems to point at a deeper problem.
Freud, Jung or Adler? Or Karen Horney?
Meanwhile...
