Islamic preacher sentenced to only 3 1/2 years over Jakarta bombing

"Man jailed over Jakarta bombing," from the BBC:

The first suspect to face charges over the bombing of the Australian Embassy in Jakarta last year has been sentenced to three and a half years in jail.

Irun Hidayat was found guilty of being an accessory to the attack, in which nine people were killed.

But Mr Hidayat had already been cleared of the most serious charge - helping plan the September 2004 attack.

If found guilty of that charge, he could have faced a death sentence.

The Islamic preacher said he rejected the verdict, and would appeal the decision.

Chief Judge Yohannes Binti said Hidayat was "legally and convincingly" guilty of being an accessory to the embassy bombings, according to the French news agency AFP...

A slap on the wrist. None of them has been sentenced to death.

How was that again? 'No Muslim must lose his life over the killing of an infidel?'

A U.S.Court would sentence me more severely for a second DUI conviction.

This ruling is not punishment or justice, but rather is encouragement for future Indonesian jihadists.

This pig is sentenced to three and a half years for recruiting murderers.

Australian Schapelle Corby is sentenced to twenty years for allegedly carrying marijuana into Indonesia, a country where drugs are for sale on every corner.

YET ANOTHER REASON TO BOYCOTT INDONESIA

The laughable sentance handed out to this terrorist is yet another reason why Australian's should think very carefully before visiting Indonesia.

It highlights the fact that if you travel to Indonesia at present you are now running the very real risk of being targetted by islamic militants whose actions are obviously supported by many in the Indonesian Judiciary and other sections of the Administration.

At this point in time I believe until Indonesian authorities start to treat terrorist offences seriously that travel to Indonesia would appear to be a very stupid thing to do and boycotting the country an act of the highest wisdom.
