Spencer book on the NY Times Bestseller List

Despite deafening silence about the book from the mainstream media (as well as from the most prominent "conservative" media outlets and spokesmen), my book The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades) has made the New York Times Bestseller List. I just got word that it will be #17 on the paperback nonfiction list for the week of August 28 (which is not up yet at the Times, so no link).

This is testimony to the fact that the mainstream media stranglehold on information is being broken -- by web-based sources of information like Jihad Watch (and Little Green Footballs, Michelle Malkin, and others), and by readers like you who are fed up with distortions and half-truths and are looking for some honest and reliable information about the true nature of today's global conflicts. Yet true to its richly-deserved nickname "The New Duranty Times,"* the New York Times is unlikely to review my book, even while it resides on their bestseller list. This is not about the book as such -- it is testimony to the increasing unreality and unreliability of the Times and its ilk, and of the necessity to continue this samizdat struggle to get the truth out despite mainstream indifference and all kinds of other obstacles.

Please be assured of my heartfelt gratitude for your support in this, and of my determination to continue the struggle.

----------------------------------------------------------

* "New Duranty Times"? Walter Duranty was the New York Times correspondent in the USSR in the 1930s. He won a Pulitzer Prize for his reporting. In March 1933 he wrote that there were in the Ukraine "serious food shortages," but "no actual starvation" -- just "widespread mortality from diseases due to malnutrition." Behind the scenes, he reported to the British Embassy that ten million had died in Stalin's famine, but he never reported that in the New York Times. Duranty, a Communist sympathizer, wanted Americans to think that the idea that Stalin had engineered a famine in the Ukraine was "a sheer absurdity."

The Times never did get around to reporting much about the Ukrainian famine, or about Hitler's genocide against the Jews. Now it is going 0-for-3, declining to speak honestly about the real nature and causes of the global jihad. That's why we call it the New Duranty Times, and why you should too.

It's a well-deserved achievement!!
:)

I bought your book "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades)" and have found it to be extremely informative about the life of Muhammad, Islam, and the TRUTH about the Crusades. Thank you for writing this book!

I wouldn't be too upset by the snub, Robert. The New York Times managed to ignore the Holocaust while it was occuring(as documented at length in the recent book "Buried by the Times"). Given its political slant, you don't expect the Times to get the jihad right, do you?

Robert,

Just received my copy of the PIG here in the Netherlands. Haven't read much of it yet, just skimmed through it. But from what I can tell you did an outstanding job!

This will lie on open display on my coffee table for the months to come. At least.

I have bought and read your book. It is a great book for the novice Infidel. The Duranty Times, for a stock, is hard up, a loser, you might say. Seems that circulation is at best, no growth, but in reality, it is shrinking. The web is taking more readers from print and there is nothing they can do about it.

Two PIGs here (yours and American history).

Both good reads.

Yoohoo! Excellent!

Not reviewed by the New Jack Lies? Be grateful. You do not want to be lied about and misrepresented by an "authoritative" pipsqueak whose lies and misrepresentations would then be circulated all over the media as being "authoritative" and coming from the "newspaper of record". The longer the New Jack Lies and its accomplices keep silent about you, the better for you and for the cause of truth.

Congratulations, Mr. Spencer! I am waiting for my PIG to arrive later this week.

It is pleasing for the New Duranty Times to have to include your book on their bestseller list; it is a convoluted way for them to have to acknowledge its existence, but acknowledge it they must.

"by web-based sources of information like Jihad Watch (and Little Green Footballs, Michelle Malkin, and others), and by readers like you who are fed up with distortions and half-truths"

I whole heartily agree with this. Since I've discovered the above sites, and others, I find myself reading these sites first now, and if time permits, the MSM sites.

i've referred to the " liberal" media, their democrat cohorts, and the enviro-wacko's as commucrats for quite some time. funny how info on their " heritage" keeps popping up from time to time.
congrats on the book mr. spencer. 17 is good.7 will be better.

Congratulations Robert.

The frequency of your recent radio appearances alone is indicative of a growing national recognition of both you and your message.

The bloggers and Fox News have broken the media monopoly of the Left. David Horowitz is almost single-handedly in the process of breaking the Leftist stranglehold on academe. And now YOU are using your considerable knowledge and intellect to shatter the PC myths surrounding Islam.

There are not many people in the world who figure so critically in the unfolding fortunes of their civilization. God bless you and keep you resolute.

State Dept. Says It Warned About bin Laden in 1996
By ERIC LICHTBLAU
WASHINGTON, Aug. 16 - State Department analysts warned the Clinton administration in July 1996 that Osama bin Laden's move to Afghanistan would give him an even more dangerous haven as he sought to expand radical Islam "well beyond the Middle East," but the government chose not to deter the move, newly declassified documents show.
In what would prove a prescient warning, the State Department intelligence analysts said in a top-secret assessment on Mr. bin Laden that summer that "his prolonged stay in Afghanistan - where hundreds of 'Arab mujahedeen' receive terrorist training and key extremist leaders often congregate - could prove more dangerous to U.S. interests in the long run than his three-year liaison with Khartoum," in Sudan.
The declassified documents, obtained by the conservative legal advocacy group Judicial Watch as part of a Freedom of Information Act request and provided to The New York Times, shed light on a murky and controversial chapter in Mr. bin Laden's history: his relocation from Sudan to Afghanistan as the Clinton administration was striving to understand the threat he posed and explore ways of confronting him.
Before 1996, Mr. bin Laden was regarded more as a financier of terrorism than a mastermind. But the State Department assessment, which came a year before he publicly urged Muslims to attack the United States, indicated that officials suspected he was taking a more active role, including in the bombings in June 1996 that killed 19 members American soldiers at the Khobar Towers in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
Two years after the State Department's warning, with Mr. bin Laden firmly entrenched in Afghanistan and overseeing terrorist training and financing operations, Al Qaeda struck two American embassies in East Africa, leading to failed military attempts by the Clinton administration to capture or kill him in Afghanistan. Three years later, on Sept. 11, 2001, Al Qaeda struck the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in an operation overseen from the base in Afghanistan.

May you reach #1

Posted by: Carolyn2 [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 17, 2005 8:49 PM

Excuse me again.

The first signals [not public so far] of some sort of serious critic on your book overhere [Holland], are also about the concealment in the book on the absolute intolerance of the Catholic church true the ages, for example the Inquisition and the terror and impact that flooded Europa from that terrible period.

Reality check: There are still plenty of people who either 1)do not own a computer 2)do not really know how to operate one and/or 3) cannot or do not buy books, or if they do, not nonfiction that bears on civics. These people have an incredible amount of catch-up to do.

I turned off the NYT when I worked in the NY bureaucracy, and discovered that the T's specialty reporter in my subject was completely wrong about all his statistics in a possibly influential article. Then, I thought he was sloppy and dismissed the NYT for that reason; in recent years I consider there may have been more malign motives as well. "All the News That's Fit to Print" means all the news that the Times wants to create.

Nihil obstat!

Posted by: Mentat [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 17, 2005 9:38 PM

Finally found my copy after checking (and requesting it) in 6 bookstores. The NYT and Wash Post are hurling headlong into utter irrelevance. I've bought neither and read neither for almost a year now. The MSM's stranglehold on information, at least in the U.S., is surely being broken. Hopefully, the day will come when no self-respecting journalism grad would want to touch them with a 10-ft pole.

Congratulations on your well deserved success! My books finally came in on Monday and although I had to drive thirty miles to pick them up, I couldn't wait!

This book is easy to read and understand and contains a wealth of valuable information. Every Christian, especially the Islamic apologists, should read it. I thought about sending a copy to President Bush but I hate to waste my money!

I bought four copies, one for me, one for the pastor at the Baptist church near my house, who was the first pastor to allow me to leave leaflets about Islam in his church. He was delighted when I took it to him this afternoon. The other two are for friends.

Thank you for writing this book and for all your hard work and dedication to revealing the truth about Islam.

from a previous post...
....Just got back from finally finding Mr. Spencer's new book. Not in the New Arrivals, new Non-fiction, not in Religion, or Middle East History, Books in the News, or even Current Events but instead in European History. Even though the book is called P.I.G. to Islam (and the Crusades). A little blame game in the shelving?
I hope to call attention to it and maybe get a few others to read it since it seems a much easier read.

...if this book is on the best seller list it is not due to the placement in bookstores, thats for sure... even looking for it I could hardly find it...
..I wonder if the bookstore will move it to the Best Sellers section?

Thanks Mr. Spencer for your book. Thanks Hugh for your wisdom.

Just wondering if Robert would like to say if any translations are in the works? I'm sure Italy, Spain, Holland and most of the rest of Europe could do with a version. Israel desparately needs this book in Hebrew too: despite everything most Israelis are still woefully under-educated about Jihad. I wonder if Abbas is already working out how to give 1/5th of the current booty to Allah.

Congratulations Mr Spencer!

Lets push it to the top now - everybody who has not bought a copy buy it, read it - and then tell all your friends and family and people you meet to buy one too.

I just finished your book yesterday and it is quite excellent. Seems kind of strange that John Quincy Adams had a more realistic view of Islam than our current President or any other President in-between. Excellent work Mr. Spencer.

Posted by: Infidel One [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 18, 2005 4:55 AM

Hopefully, PIGs and other non-MSM resources will substantially help to overwhelm the propaganda of dhimmis and weasels, and the public will realize of what Islam is.

Go, Robert Spencer, go!

I ahve followed this site, reading and analyzing the posts.
I have been impressed, Robert, with your knowledge and insight re Islam and those who follow it. The links I have followed from this site have allowed me to become even more informed by exposing me to other opinions, writings by appropriately recommended authors, and have given me the opportunity to enhance my knowledge base. May God bless you and may we all reach out to those around us that are less well informed so that we may begin to combat those who not only are mired in the PC realm, but to those among us who actually hate America and all she stands for.

WE ARE AT WAR! This is not a LEGAL issue!

Ahh, at last I can post. To the person above who wanted to know about any translation efforts, I run the Spanish FFI and can take on a bit at a time there.

And USAfan, you are Canadian too? I ordered mine at about that same time (July 22). It says 3-5 wks delivery, plus I ordered mine with Andy Bostom's "Legacy of Jihad" which is not set to be published in mid-Sept. So long for speedy Amazon service. I can't wait until this book comes. Waah, waah.

I enjoyed Robert Spencer's book immensely, and
also applaud his efforts in getting the message
out via Jihad Watch.

If you enjoyed Mr Spencer's book, I highly recommend "America's Secret War" by Dr George Friedman. One of the FINEST books I have ever
read and I have read hundreds of books.

A good, in depth anaylsis of the War in Iraq
and The War On Terror. It reveals our government's stratgey which could not be revealed
earlier less our enemies find out. Make no mistake
about it, we are at War and our governement is
more "on top" of things then people give it credit for.
