I read that it also contains a clause saying that all laws also must conform to the principles of democracy and human rights. Is that true? Talk about tension.

Two possibilities, at least: the human rights declaration in question may be the one issued by Arab League nations in Cairo (Sharia based, I suspect), or this is the influence of folks like Bob Rae, Ontario's former premier and close buddy of Michael Ignatief, a Harvard professor in peace studies who supported regime change.

Saddam was a Baathist in name only, but Baathism predates Saddam. At least the Baathists were secularists and provided a buffer against Iran. Banning the entire Baath party and not insisting on a true secular constitituon could only be done by a fool. Now we have an Islamic state. Let's not think about invading North Korea or Syria, Bush is too good at spreading Islamic statehood. Thank God Bush didn't take over after we went in and defeated Germany and Japan.

I don't kow about the rest of you, but I am sick to my stomach after reading this and having it confirmed on tv this afternoon.I supported Bush since he became president and in his quest for democracy, but after seeing him kissing and holding hands with King what's his face and now this, it's just too much for me to bear. I want my boys home now, I don't care how much they kill each other over there. They have proved to me once and for all that once a barbarian always a barbarian.

Founding Forefather...What you see as moronic behavior from Bush, is an act. He plays dumb to mislead the enemy. Actually he is a genius. Bush works in strange and mysterious ways. Just when you think he is down, he is up, and he knows how to jump sideways as well. He can also ride a bike. I think it was Hamlet who said, "Beware of presidents who ride bikes and kiss Saudi's". Bush has a plan, I dont know what it is, but I know he has one. Allah knows what it is, he predestined all this stuff, but no matter how many times I ask him, he wont answer.
That Iraq would lean toward Islamic law was predictable. When that happens, it is undoubtably part of Bushes plan, designed to confuse the enemy by applying double/triple reverse psychology.(He learned that from Cheney). So, far from being a fool, Bush is like the invisible man, working unknown and unseen, so that the enemy cant really see him. We cant really see him either, which is why the confusion. So the next time Geo looks a little dazed or confused, remember, it's just part of the act...or is it? Have a good day...evening...

I'm proud to say I didn't vote for Bush precisely because I had already been informed of his "special" relationship with the House of Saud and big oil. The war on terror had nothing to do with the war in Iraq, and worse - it played right into the hands of the jihadists who wished to stretch out our forces and use our invasion in an "islamic" country to further recruit foot soldiers.

Sadly, it is becoming more apparent that a large military will not be very useful in the face of the jihadist threat. Rather, it will be intelligence, counter-ops, and surveillance that will serve us best. We must keep pressuring the muslim community at large to take action against these people. But let's be honest - a worldwide caliphate is absurd, and no amount of terrorism will ever bring one into being. At best, we will just be under a constant threat of terrorism for the next several generations. I just have a hard time believing that Kentucky, or North Carolina, or will ever embrace Islam as the sole religion. It's just not going to happen, but I'm not minimizing the fact that we do face a very real threat to global stability and the world economy. Like Robert said, this story should come as no surprise to regular readers here. What does surprise me is that many people here who have derided "liberals" for indirectly supporting the islamic agenda also voted this man into office and are now in disbelief that we are about to allow an islamic state to be created. From day one it was glaringly obvious that this was the only possible outcome.

Finally, Catherine has once again blessed us with a gem: "Let them live in the s#!t hole if they want but we will not fight for that s#!t??" - and then promptly posts some links of us "fighting that s#!t." There is irony there in your glorification of war, to be sure. Further, your response to the paper-cup story: "AND WENT BACK TO DRINKING WATER FROM A BOWL ON THE FLOOR LIKE DOGS SHOULD????" is the antithesis of what Robert just quoted on his main page:

"...this is a struggle for human rights and human dignity, that you should meet it as such..."

1. Withdraw all Allied troops immediately, not in a day, week, month.

2. Inform the new government that should we need to come back again, we won't come armed with bricks, paintbrushes and we won't put our personnel on the ground.

Punishment will be swift, and all encompassing.
