Massachusetts Governor: Wiretap mosques

Has he been reading The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades)? "Wiretap mosques, Romney suggests: Pushes gathering of intelligence," from the Boston Globe:

WASHINGTON -- Governor Mitt Romney raised the prospect of wiretapping mosques and conducting surveillance of foreign students in Massachusetts, as he issued a broad call yesterday for the federal government to devote far more money and attention to domestic intelligence gathering.

In remarks that caused alarm among civil libertarians and advocates for immigrants rights, Romney said in a speech to the Heritage Foundation that the United States needs to radically rethink how it guards itself against terrorism.

''How many individuals are coming to our state and going to those institutions who have come from terrorist-sponsored states?" he said, referring to foreign students who attend universities in Massachusetts. ''Do we know where they are? Are we tracking them?"

''How about people who are in settings -- mosques, for instance -- that may be teaching doctrines of hate and terror," Romney continued. ''Are we monitoring that? Are we wiretapping? Are we following what's going on?"

Watch for the uproar, already brewing in this Globe piece.

A completely rational suggestion, which will result in predictable and silly and dangerous outrage.

how about a romney/tancredo ticket in 08?

Absolutely rational and much needed. I went to school in Boston and there are tons of international students from the middle east who are sympathetic to their cause. Let Gov. Romney know that you support his decision: http://www.mass.gov/Agovwebmail/WebMailPageControl.ser?level=101

I think the Govenor has just kicked a hornet's nest. Good for him, finally someone with a backbone. I wish him luck

Mitt Romney has a much more presidential demeanor than Geo. Allen. McCain doesn't have a prayer. He's gone past his sell-by date a couple of times already. As for Mrs. Bill? She sold-out long before her sell-by.

But what about the rash of Mormon terrorism? Can we really trust Romney?

Boston's talk radio hosts routinely skewer CAIR, Sharia and the Religion of Peaceful Character Building. A stack of Defeat Jihad stickers is en route to the city's leading talk radio personality, who gives stuff away on-air to callers.

If we are convinced that mosques/muslims should be wire-tapped (I am convinced.), why not skip to the obvious next step of outlawing islam & deporting all muslims?

What if the muslims decide to quit using the phone? Wire-tapping is really not a solution. Bulldozing the mosques & deporting the muslims, however, is ...

No muslims. No mosques.

Where is Homeless/land In/Security in all of this? They should act before the fact instead of shipping body bags. Jihadists should be treated like any other subversive politcal group, there must be some laws on that.

dms is right. Romney/Tancredo would be a dream ticket, in light of the fact that Islam is the single greatest problem on earth today.

Again, I await the Next Big One. It'll be fascinating to watch the collapse of the Marxist left (read Democrats/liberals) after the Next Big One hits. American politics will be reshaped overnight, literally.

I most certainly agree with "Havoc" why cannot the public en masse bring it to the attention of the politicians that Islam is not compatible, in any way with our way of life in the west? - Outlaw Islam in all western countries and then kick all the Muslims out.
Communism was bad enough,we had safeguards againt communism, what about Islam? Its much worse than communism, its a hate/evil ideology growing like a cancer in the free world. The sooner were cut it out the better.

Mosques are already monitored in several Muslim countries, including Turkey and Tunisia. Muslim rulers know that what is contained in the khutba, or sermon, uttered at Friday Prayers, usually can be analyzed to see if the ruler is being presented with due obeisance, or something else. Signs of sedition can be picked up.

In the Infidel world, one need not tape the sermons at Friday Prayers to discover what is being said about "the Ruler" of the Infidel-country. No one should expect any sign of loyalty at all either to the "governor" or the "government" of the Infidel nation-state. It just won't happen. The whipping up of hatred of Infidels, based on the texts quoted from, or the events in Muhammad's life that are alluded to (such as the Banu Qurayza, or Asma bint Marwan, or the Khaybar Oasis)listening-out to see if the "Ruler" (i.e., the Infidel ruler) are simply one part of a much more complete monitoring program that, as long as the Western world's Infidel taxpayers are willing to shell out tens of billions to monitor the Musllims who have come to settle among them, and whatever else they do, will also naturally work to spread or defend or stymie attempts to defend against, Islam.

Indeed, Ataturk did not merely monitor the mosques. He closed mosques, fired imams, sometimes destroying buildings. And he decreed that the khutbas all over Turkey would be vetted, or even composed, by the central Turkish authority, the MInistry which oversaw religious affairs. Why did he do this? Because he understood the fanatastic power of Islam over men's minds, a power that clearly had to do with political and social control -- not merely with a faith limited to the individual's relation to the God he believed in, but something much more immediate here below.

If Islam is indeed the biggest single problem on earth, then this website is one of the most important in all of the Internet.

As I near completion of my readings of Islamic scriptures, I am one highly alarmed dude. I feel for my children, and the mess that they're soon to inherit. Forget the deficit and Social Security, small potatos compared to what the Islam Problem portends for the next generation.

DMS,

"how about a romney/tancredo ticket in 08?"

I'd go for that. These 2, and Congr. Peter King of NY, seem to be the only politicians that have a clue...

Thank goodness someone sees the dangers (besides us) and hopefully he has the will and the power to do something in order to create changes, because changes are needed pretty badly.

It only makes sense since this is where they hide out and spread their bile and infect others to hate for hate’s sake. I’m glad to finally hear that something’s moving in the right direction towards action, self defense and confrontation against the true enemy of mankind and the entire civilized world.

I, for one, will definitely be following Romney’s career closer and watching interestedly.

Posted by: illustr8rg8r [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 15, 2005 3:39 PM

Is this a first step in the direction of common sense?

If CAIR isn't already bitching about this, they should be soon. Will they attempt to correct their horrendous use of photoshop/paint and attempt to put a picture of Romney wearing a hijab on their site?

If we can't wiretap these Islamic armories, how bout we just shut them all down as houses of sedition. Them, CAIR, and the ACLU.

Posted by: DCWatson [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 15, 2005 4:03 PM

I have already e-mailed the governor to show him my total support and to encourage him not to cave in to the inevitable attacks that will come his way from the likes of CAIR,ACLU, and the mainstream media.
Him,together with Tancredo are the only voices of courage and reason that have been heard so far.

Hugh, I enjoy and respect so much your input on the discussion on this board.

Has anyone at JW thought of a rating system that can be applied to our national politicos, base on some fundamental positions that reveal their state of Dihimmitude or ant-dihimmitude.

Shaughn, you are so right! In my fifty on this planet and having experienced the challenge of the defeat of communism, I agree that the danger posed by Islam in it's current state is far more serious them what has come before.

In in addition you add the rise of multiculturalism and the politically correct left, them we are in for one hell of a fight to pass on to our children a modern, moderate and free Western World enriched by Judeo/Christian values

I am semi retired, having lived a happy and rewarding life and living for the day when I can see this cloud lifted from future my grandchildren will live.

Having worked in the advertising industry for twenty years and been involved in politics, (poster design) I am reviewing what I can offer to the talent pool of JW or any other organization.

I suspect that there is an army of people such as myself from all walks of life and in many countries that want to make the same contribution.

Hugh, and Mr Spencer if I can contribute in any way besides donations and participation on this site let me know and I send you my email address.

How about the knowledge these individuals are learning like nuclear science, bio engineering and chemical engineering. The knowledge they learn will be used against us also students visas is one of the ways they get into the country. The 911 hijackers/jihadist used students visas and went to U.S. flight schools they used our laws and schools against us.

Posted by: RED [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 15, 2005 7:22 PM

Better suggestion: get the mosques off US soil IMMEDIATELY!

And let us not permit them to return.

The Muslims' "Glorious Koran" states and I quote: "make friends with neither Jews nor Christians."

So-- by their own admission-- they have no real business in America anyway.

Until the day arrives that the mosques can be repatriated from America back to the vacuum we call the Middle East, maximum surveillance of all mosques in America is URGENTLY REQUIRED.

I have been trying with no success to get Republican Canndidate for Gov. of New Jersey, Doug Forrester, to start saying what Gov. Mitt Romney is now saying. I am convinced if it is presented sensibly, that this can be a winning issue in a political campaign.

I saw Romney interviewed on Fox news this evening about 8:00 Eastern Time, and he was already backtracking and denying the wiretap idea. He "clarified" his position by saying that the gov't had the ability to monitor activities under the Patriot Act "and other laws" and that we should "do more of what we have been doing" rather than institute something new.

Of course, the Patriot Act does make tapping easier. He's not advocating any new program. In any event, wiretapping a mosque is probably not so productive. Better to tape the sermons and the private breakout sessions.

Frankly, I think Romney's just releasing a trial balloon. So, maybe a few favorable emails will help give him some confidence. At least he's facing in the right direction.

John Gibson of fownews asked Judge Noepolitano (sp?) about this issue. The Judge suggested that wiretapping may not be constitutional but spies would be well within legal limits. I like the idea of spies better anyway, we need a lot of them and soon.

Posted by: kevin [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 15, 2005 10:39 PM

It must be Judge Napolitano. Parthenopean, inhabitant of Naples, with an ancestral view of the Bay, and the smell of a caffe pendente, and strains of Modugno, and no one -- in contrast to that girl in "Lamia" -- ever forgetting that above it all remains that blu dipinto di blu.

How to start your day with a positive attitude

1. Create a "new folder" on your computer.
2. Name it "Islam".
3. Send it to the trash.
4. Empty the trash.
5. Your computer will ask you: "Do you really want to get rid of "Islam"?
6. Answer -- calmly -- "Yes" and press the mouse button firmly.
Enjoy Your Day!!

Hi all,

I think the wiretap would be wasted time on the part of the intellengence services as 99.8% of the time they will (probably become sick of) listening to the glory of Allah (SWT). After all that is what the mosques are there for primarily .....the glorification of Allah.

Unless you are in the ME, there will be no weapons or much talk of terrorism within the Mosque.... Only how muslims have been victimised and how to stay strong in the face of such pressure.

The Imam is like a cricket umpire...you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. Better to sit on the fence and praise the glory....the Quaran when heard being read rythmically, and with gusto can be very calming and relaxing.

Peace & teh greater glory be to Allah (swt).

Posted by: Naseem [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 16, 2005 9:44 AM

Naseem, surely you jest!

Shall I, just off the top of my head, mention the Lodi, CA mosque and imams, the Falls Church, VA mosque where the paintball jihadists attended and wasn't there something about an imam in Columbus recently who had plans to blow up a shopping mall? And, what about the Saudi provided anti-American, pro-jihadi literature provided by mosque-goers to the Freedom Foundation at mosques all across the US?

Anyone else care to chime in?
