"Voice of the Caliphate": what clearer indication could there be of the jihadists' overall goal to reestablish the caliphate and by means of it to establish the hegemony of Islamic law over the world? While it is unlikely at this point that they will ever succeed in America, it is not unlikely that they will try to do violence here to achieve their purposes.
Also, even if they plan to pursue this goal by peaceful means, they are still set against core principles of the U.S. Constitution. This indicates that simply to hunt for "terrorists" is out of focus: what about all those who may be trying to advance the same agenda as that of the terrorists by peaceful means? Why is there no examination in the government or the mainstream media of the overall goals of the terrorists? Why is no serious effort being made to determine how many Muslims in America believe that the U.S. Constitution should ultimately be replaced by Sharia?
"New Al-Qaeda Weekly Internet News Broadcast Celebrates U.S. Hurricanes and Gaza Pullout, Reports on Al-Zarqawi's Anti-Shiite Campaign and Chemical Mortar Shells in Iraq," from MEMRI, with thanks to all who sent this in:
The following are excerpts from Sout Al-Khilafa, Al-Qaeda's new on-line weekly news broadcast. TO VIEW THIS CLIP VISIT: http://memritv.org/search.asp?ACT=S9&P1=862.In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate.
The Global Media Front presents to you Sout Al-Khilafa [The Voice of the Caliphate].
Speaker: "In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate. The headlines of this news summary: Gaza has been liberated – a great victory, yet a weighty responsibility. In Iraq, Abu Mus'ab Al-Zarqawi declares a war of Sunni vengeance, and Hurricane Katrina is the beginning of the divine, just punishment."
Caption: "Sout Al-Khilafa"
Speaker: "Welcome to the 'The Nation's Weekly News Summary' program. First, the Sout Al-Khilafa team sends its best wishes to the Islamic nation for the defeat of the Zionist occupation in a portion of occupied Palestine. We also congratulate ourselves on the destruction caused in America, by one of Allah's soldiers. The Muslim multitudes in Palestine were seen thronging to the liberated lands, waving the banner of victory. Meanwhile, the mouthpieces of the so-called Palestinian Authority spoke about disarming the mujahideen under the pretext of what they called 'the weapons anarchy.' But the response of the mujahideen groups on the front lines was clear. They announced their refusal to disarm as long as the occupier remains in the land of the Muslims."

Speaker: "We now move on to the occupied land, to the land of the Caliphate, the glorious land of Iraq. The American wolves, and behind them the Rafidite Shiite dogs, have desecrated our [women's] honor in Tel'afar and other Sunni cities, while the Muslims and the scholars of the Sultans keep silent....
"The Islamic Army in Iraq announced that it has launched 10 chemical mortar shells and 45 Katyusha missiles on a base of the American forces and the 'Pagan' [National] Guard in Al-Madain. Many soldiers fled the base and anarchy took over, which is an indication of the number of casualties the enemy suffered.
"The entire Islamic world overflowed with joy when Hurricane Katrina struck in America, which seemed to reel from the strength of the hurricane and went asking for aid from all the countries of the world. Broken and completely humiliated, George Bush, a fool who is being obeyed, announced his obvious incapability to deal with the wrath of Allah that visited the city of homosexuals.
"While Louisiana is trying to recover from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, another hurricane fiercely struck the state of North Carolina, on the Atlantic coast, but so far there have been no casualties or significant damage, as was expected. We hope that Allah will humiliate America with this hurricane to make it a lesson for whoever wants to listen.

And what did we do when muslims suffered from the Tsunami? Oh yes, we gave millions from our own pockets to get them back on their feet.

It will be mildly interesting to see how long it will take the usual suspects to respond to this self-appointed caliphate.
But then Mohammed being a self-declared prophet, they're only following tradition aren't they?

From the article: "The Islamic Army in Iraq announced that it has launched 10 chemical mortar shells . . ."
Is this an empty boast, or are they now admitting to the possession and use of chemical weapons? If the latter, then this needs wide publicity.

Greetings Texan
I was wondering the same thing. I can find no other source running with this.
I have already thrown several emails into the UK Government machine asking that they clarify the situation - for one thing British Troops there are woefully under resourced in NBC apparel.
If these are remnants of Saddams Chemical Artillery Programme, we need to know where they got their grimy hands on them.
A friend of mine in the know about such munitions reckons that there would have to be at least 20 munition dumps in underground desert locations (on the Syrian border is his best guess) to account for the amount of empty chemical ready shells we know he had, let alone the storage for the chemical agent.
Just what would the Stop The War Coalition & Wests left wing do if the British grounds stated for the invasion, WMD, were in the end true?

Albion and Texan:
I can't quite remember where I read it, but I do recall recently reading an account of Coalition troops finding "jihadist safe houses" that were, indeed, housing all sorts of nasty stuff for bomb making and other toxic chemicals (no mention of bioweapons), but most likely it was frontpagemag.com's Warblog section.
Granny:
Christopher Hitchens on the recent "anti-war" protesters entitled, Anti-war, My Foot. He describes, with much insider knowledge, the components of the Stop the War movement, particularly Answer and United for Peace and Justice: http://www.slate.com/?id=2126913&nav=tap2/

Texan & Albiion, remember the IED (Improvised Explosive Device) that was detonated in May 2004 in Iraq that contained Sarin gas? http://msnbc.msn.com/id/4997808/
Saddam did have WMD's. Where they are now is anybody's guess. Apparently the thugs who rigged that one last May didn't know that it contained poison gas. It was a binary weapon, where the two components have to be mixed together by the spinning of the shell as it leaves the gun tube to work properly. There are probably a lot more shells like it in Iraq's ammo bunkers, but since there are tens of thousands of bunkers left over from Saddam's era, finding them will be quite a task.

Someone close to me has often pondered recently quite when how and why CND jumped onto the same bandwagon.
He had been a member of CND (campaign for nuclear disarmament) in the 70s. This sat comfortably with his military service. He joked that nuclear weapons would put the infantry out of a job so of course he was against them. More seriously he had doubts about their effectiveness in that he worried (amongst other issues) about the damage fallout would do to everybody else. Then CND ceased to be about the particular weapon and became a general pacifist organisation. Which it was never supposed to be.
No reasonable man, especially if he has been shot at and seen his comrades die is pro war. Instead he views it as a sometimes necessary evil for self defence, the defence of the weak and in the knowledge that attack is sometimes the best form of defence.
The undermining of British troops currently in the sandpit is little short of traitorous.
