Whenever one of these angry (mad) fist waving bastards get the right end of a bullet or missile trajectory one has to have some satisfaction in scoring one for the good guys (the West).

The Tamil Tigers, by and large, wrote the book on modern terrorism including the suicide bomber. I doubt this Hindu ethnic group has much sympathy for the “Religion of Peace”

johnb... tamil tigers are largely agnostics. non-Tamil Hindus generally do not support their cause. Its not a religious conflict but a Sinhalese-Tamil ethnic war. Their being Hindu has lil to do with the muslim-tamil tensions in Sri Lanka. Its highly uncharacteristic for Hindus to actively fight jihadis. Those Muslims are Sinhalese hence, Tamils r fighting them.

I THOUGHT I smelled Islamic jihad activity lurking inside Sri Lanka's Tamil Tiger Movement.

It's extremely unusual that anyone OTHER than a Muslim would involve himself/herself in suicide bombings and repeated terrorist activities. But that's what the world was told had been going on in Sri Lanka during the past 20 years or so. No international authorities that I know of came out and said Muslims were playimg a major part of this horror, as the Tamils are not Muslim majority. But I wondered and wondered---

I had begun to believe I was imagining things with regard to Sri Lanka's violent insurrectionist problem. But as I see here, no. I wasn't.

If those Muslims are Sinhalese (who I believe are mainly Buddhist) do you know how or why they have converted and what their numbers might be? Thanks in advance.

I don't think that's the point here. Vikrant says the ethnic Tamils are secular Hindus whereas some of their enemies, the majority Sinhalese are Muslim. The Sinhalese are, however, majority Buddist, not Muslim.

I'm no expert on the grievance the Tamils bear toward the Sinhalese, but my recollections (and we have a large Tamil population in Toronto) are that it falls along political lines: with the Sinhalese firmly in control of the country.

7% of Sri Lanka's population is Muslim. It seems they've been converted by Indian Muslims. Actually Tamil Tigers are a dangerous mix of Tamil nationalism and terrorism. The Sinhalese-Tamil conflict is projected as "Aryan"-Dravidian problem to evoke sympathies amongst Indian Tamils. Though facial features of Sinhalese are similar to Tamils, they're descendents of North Indians.

Yes Hindus rarely fight Muslims. Look at Kashmiri Pandits,Sindhis and Bangladeshi Hindus. They'd simply suffer in silence rather then answer their tormentors. I guess its something in our genes that makes us cowards.
