Pakistan's government implicated in nuclear trade

Much has been said about the recent peace initiatives between the Indian and Pakistani governments. However, a recent report in Pakistan’s Daily Star contends that -- while peace efforts may be moving forward -- Pakistan is still attempting to upgrade and expand its nuclear arsenal through covert purchases made overseas. Considering Pakistan’s persistent refusal to aid Western investigators in tracking down all vestiges of the A.Q. Khan proliferation network, such news should be regarded with some alarm: (thanks to Nicolei)

Pakistan High Commission in London is on a British intelligence list of 360 companies, universities and government organisations seeking to procure nuclear and other weapons related technology.

According to a British newspaper, the British intelligence agency MI5 has prepared a report outlining the activities of 360 organisations, which seek nuclear weapons. The length of the list suggests that the arms trade supermarket is bigger than earlier anticipated. MI5 warns against exports to organisations in Iran, Pakistan, India, Israel, Syria and Egypt and warns against companies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), suspected to be fronts for these organisations.

The involvement of the Pakistani government however, sets the High Commission apart from the other organizations cited:

The 17-page document identifies 95 Pakistani organisations and government bodies, including Pakistan High Commission in London, as having assisted in the country’s nuclear programme. The list was compiled two years ago shortly after the security service mounted a surveillance operation at the Pakistani high commission, which is the only diplomatic institution on the list. Abdul Basit, Pakistan’s deputy high commissioner, said: “It is absolute rubbish and we take strong exception to these allegations.”

Quick, let's send more aid to Pakistan.

No surprise here. However, those in Washington don't seem to notice or care and believe that we, the American people, neither care nor notice as well.

The case of Dr. A.Q. Khan has smelled like a week-old load of fish since the start.

He apparently, without the knowledge of his government, ran the biggest international nuclear proliferation ring the world has ever known. When "caught" by his shocked government, he was immediately sentenced to "house arrest", presumably in the mansion he bought with the proceeds of his nuclear profiteering.

It is no surprise that Pakistan is not interested in stopping nuclear proliferation to Islamic theocracies. Do not listen to our government, Pakistan is not our ally in any sense of the word.

All sarcasm aside. I just read that Canada increased aid today to Pakistan by $20million. so i guess I just opened my wallet to these f***s.

Anyone want to take a stab at estimating what percentage of the $20 million aid by Canada will actually go to the unfortunate earthquake victims and what percentage will, instead, be funneled off to the jehadi outfits within Pakistan?

I heard on the news today that the United States of America has pledged $50,000,000.00 (fifty-million dollars) to the Pakistani earthquake rescue effort.

Then I heard commentary that there was some argument as to whether that sum was not enough or too much.

Then I had a thought. Why are we sending any money to Pakistan? And I really could not come up with a rational answer.

Is this not the nation which has been harboring Mr. Bin Laden for lo these four long years?

Somehow, some way, our gov't has to wise up about who our real friends are. Let's start with Israel. Then there's the UK (until Tony Blair loses an election), Australia, then.........hmmm.

It's a really short list, isnt' it.

johnny dub you basically said it all

Johnny Dub

Cool name.

I am sorry you are under the impression that the only friend the USA has in Great Britain is Princess Blair.

It really is not the case.

Al BBCeera, Al Guardian & other left wing media in the UK do a sterling job of undermining the historic allegiance between our countries - but it certainly is no where near a majority or deeply embedded opinion.

When push comes to shove comes to all out attack, we know who our friends are & on what side of the line we will be standing.

In the POK and the NWFP, there has been considerable criticism of the slow response of Islamabad to the tragedy. It remains to be seen whether the tragedy would weaken Musharraf's position. He has always projected himself as a super-competent military commander, who acts fast and effectively. These qualities were not evident in the first few hours after the quake struck.

For the first time in my life I have felt little or no pity for what is happening in Pakistan. Having for years now been reminded of the Ummah's commitment to shelter and support each 'brother' and 'sister'in all aspects of defending themselves from the wickedness of the West, let them sort themselves out. The house of Saud can pay for everything that is needed from the petty cash tin.
I am surrounded here in Lancashire (N.W. England), by thousands of Paks most of whom are on the Benefits gravy train (those that do work, work cash in hand). What is most sickening is the the lack of definition between Islamic reality and Western democracy shown in the MSM.
If anything should be sent to Pakistan its those scumbags who have colonised this Country

That is doable.
But not before you replace your dhimmi government with the representatives of the British people. Now how doable is THAT?!

My fellow Canadian bloggers:

Not knowing a great deal about the manufacture of atomic weapons, I still wonder if A.Q. Khan would have been able to get anywhere with his nuclear arms production without Canada having given Pakistan the technology to produce heavy water in the first place just to keep our atomic energy industry in business way back in the 1970s.

I remember when Italy had major earthquakes (Frijuli region was one area) and both the feds and the Italian community in Canada were really angry at the way that aid money was diverted from reconstruction projects and, as I recall, the Italian government made changes to clean this up. You'd think we'd know enough to attach conditions to the hand-outs automatically, wherever and whenever, but apparently not.
