NB: a significant portion of France's Jewish population, including Samy Ghozlan referred to above(a retired police officer, as it happens), were driven from Algeria and Morocco in the period following WW II, either to escape the wave of persecution that followed the establishment of Israel or the nationalist movement that fought to expel the French from Algeria.

Also, a simple comment concerning a few others (comments) I have heard about on how the poor Muslims don't get any decent jobs, etc. From the 1960s to the 1980s, hundreds of thousands of Portuguese migrated to France (so much so that we joke in Portugal when we say that Paris is the third most populous "Portuguese" city). When the first batches of immigrants arrived in France, they didn't have any state-sponsored buildings waiting for them: they were settled in the most appalling shanties one can imagine (I have seen video footage and it reminded me of a Kenyan dumpster), that were generically named "Bidonville" (bidon=jerrycan, and it was used in the sense that the shanties were built with all sorts of scrap).

Sorry for going a bit off topic, but I think you all know where I am going: Portuguese immigrants never started any riots, did they? And neither do the Eastern Europeans or the South Americans that make up most of the present immigration in Western Europe.

I know what awaits France’s Jews in Israel and America is initial poverty and lack of social services for elderly immigrants. In France, at least, they have their basic needs met. In America they would not qualify for medical services and welfare payments… If you are old or sick and starting over, America is a hard place to be in, but this is a good thing for keeping out the freeloading Muslims. America is a country for hard workers, unless you are a minority woman who is always with child.

The Jewish community in America must do something to help Jews trapped in old Europe or in the next few years Jewish blood will run the streets as Europe descends into utter Islamic anarchy.

French Jews in the main are highly assimilated--like the US. They, for the most part, call themselves Frenchmen first, Jews second. I would argue that the more religious bent have flown the coop already to join the growing French Jewish expatriot community in Israel. They have high rates of intermarriage--like the US. But, we will see a net migration of Jews and Christians out of France over the next twenty years, accelerating the arabization of France in specific . . . and Europe in general. These riots will end . . . but new riots will occur. The fundamental problem of France is this: what do they have left to give? They welcomed a sick Arafat. They get into bed with every Arab leader out there. They condem the US in invading Iraq, promising Sadam that the attack wouldn't happen at all, they condem Israel all for a singular purpose . . . appeasment. They payback is the trashing of French society and destruction of its tourism industry. I would have loved to have gone to Paris and see France, but now . . . this will have to wait for a long time . . . maybe to be replaced by a stint at Paris Casino and hotel in Vegas. There's a growing Muslim community there, as there in any large North American urban areas, and I suspect the leftist-nationalist separatists are far friendlier to the Muslims than they are to the Jews. Montreal was the scene of the bombing of a Jewish school by a couple of Muslim youths. It was also home to the would-be Milenium Bomber.
