Jihad attack in Jordan? Just in from AP:
AMMAN, Jordan - Explosions rocked two hotels in the Jordanian capital late Wednesday, killing at least seven people and sending ambulances screaming across downtown. The cause of the explosions was unclear. The first bomb, at 8:50 local time (1:50 p.m. EST), struck the Grand Hyatt, completely shattering the stone entrance. An AP reporter saw at least seven bodies removed from the hotel, and many more wounded carried out on stretchers.
Police said a second explosion hit a wedding hall at the nearby Radisson SAS hotel, and there were believed to be casualties.
Both hotels, in the commercial Jebel Amman district, are frequented by American and European businessmen and diplomats.
One police official said scores of people were believed killed.

From the BBC (Bifocals, Binoculars, Contacts)
The cause is unclear. Jordan has been a target of attacks because of its strong support for the US, correspondents say.

The death count on these terrorist bombing in Amman,Jordan has now reached at least 18 dead, and over 120 injured among the 3 hotels. Some felt that the bombs may have been planted, but the latest and not totlally sustantiated information is that appears to have been suicide bombers.
Former ambassador Ginsburg who has stayed at the Radisson on several occasions, said on Fox TV; that there have been attempts by Zarqawi operatives to bomb these hotels as far back as 1999. Many westerners have used the Radisson and the other 2 hotels for gatherings, even General Tommy Franks has used the Radisson Hotel.

I see Ginsburg and Fox are still promoting the myth of the minority of Muslim extremists, and playing the old worn out saw of Al Qaida. That makes Norquists Islamic Institute happy, salves the feelings of CAIR, and the Republican wing of the American Muslim Society, but it doesn't solve the problem.
Al Qaida is not an organization, anymore than the Muslim brother hood is, there is no top down organizational chart, they are not centralized, not even by their own lights.
Fighting Al Qaida and "Muslim extremists"is like fighting swamp gas or a more accurate analogy going on a snipe hunt in the Everglades.

Certainly the myth that Islam is "a religion of peace" looks like swamp gas as well. Can you see the crocodiles, and the water mocassins in there?
The death count in Amman has now climbed to nearly 6o fatalities.

Latest on this is 28 dead and 200 wounded.

I am going to stick my neck way out here and guess that the bombers will turn out to be Islamic. Not muslim, not Iraqi, or any other sect. Islam will be involved. If this turns out to be in error, I will post again and retract, however I don't think that will be needed. If this offends, it may be because the guess is correct.

The irony of ironies of the Iraq wore would be if it destabilized the wrong regimes . . . not the Saudis or the Iranians--but the Jordanian Kingdom. I'm nore sure if the current king has the brains or guts of King Hussein who didn't shirk from brutal crackdowns on the Islamists or Palestinians(remember Black September when he cracked down on a cival war in the making). The current king seems to be too much of a nice guy to survive in the jungle. We shall see. Clearly the current king and especially Prince Hassan seem pro western in their orientation . . . but the winds of change are blowing in the wrong direction that Cheney and the neocons would have wished, emboldening the terrorists and further radicalizing the street. One could argue that true democratic elections in the middle east would only bring the Islamists to power in ALL Arab lands. No, our strategy should be a. develop alternative energy resources b. mandatory conservation measures c. drill in Anwar and wherever the hell else we can get a drop of oil d. support moderate arab dictators like in Jordan and in Morroco e. Back all non-arab minorities in the middle east like the Kurds and the Berber Tribes in the Atlas Mountains(many were once Jewish before the hordes converted them) f lead the way to take pride in Western European-American heritage g. have a zero tolerance policy at home with Islamic troublemakers h. declare victory in Iraq . . . pull back quickly . . . with a small base in Kurdistan acting hand in glove with the Kurds, protecting them in their pro-US enclave(10,000 would do the trick) I. focus on Iran(it may be too late here to stop the bomb) j. Place a halt to immigration--except in extreme circumstances like letting in scared French/English Christians. K. put a fence on the Mexican border. L. Kill the terrorists wherever we find them(and quickly go home) M. bug the mosques. N. Infiltrate the Islamic organizations with spies o. develop a nationwide non-oil mass transit high-speed train system . . . one could go on and on.

I heard once, many months ago, that a known Jordanian bomber was allowed into the U.S. on some B.S. amnesty rule.
I wonder how long an incident like this will happen here.

Excellent comments Biorabbi.
You could get elected with an agenda like that!!!
Too bad real Americans are forced to watch their words due to liberal watchdogs like the ACLU.
One of these days Christians will stand up and say no more!

Nariz:
If the Muslim Brotherhood lacks the "structured organization", of say, the B'nai Brith, it's because they have been recognized as a threat to the secular despots of the Middle East since Gamal Abdul Nasser started hanging them in the 1950s, not because they don't exist as an underground organization. Al-Qaeda is just a permutation of the MB. Hamas, however, is an "above ground" manefestation, able to do so as their existence was, unfortunately, contenanced by the Israelis as a counterbalance to the corrupt PLO/PA and able to continue operating in Gaza and the West Bank because the PA doesn't have the muscle to put them down, or, perhaps because their continued existence suits the PA's purposes (able to raise Hamas as the uglier alternative "peace partner").
