Why not? Because they target civilians, and that is immoral? No -- because Indonesia is "not a combat zone." So presumably such ops are just fine in Israel, Britain, Spain, the U.S., and elsewhere. "Indonesia: Suicide bombings 'not jihad' say hard-liners," from AKI, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:
Jakarta, 5 Dec. (AKI/Jakarta Post) - Islamic hard-line groups have joined a chorus of condemnation in Indonesia and elsewhere in the world against militants who used suicide bombings to wage Jihad - or holy war - in the world's most populous Muslim country. At a seminar over the weekend, the groups called for a dialogue between them and other Muslim leaders, along with the government to discuss the issues surrounding Jihad, claiming US president George W. Bush's 'war on terror' has tarnished their image.Suicide bombs cannot be accepted as Jihad, leaders of the Indonesian Mujahadeen Assembly (MMI), Hizb ut Tahrir, the Islam Defender Front (FPI), and several other hard-line groups agreed on Sunday.
"It's because the attackers have committed suicide in Indonesia, which is not a conflict zone," MMI leader Abu Jibril argued.
The seminar specifically discussed the series of suicide bombings in the country, blamed widely on members of the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terror group.
According to Jibril, Muslims are allowed only to launch suicide attacks for self-defence.
"The recent suicide bombings were out of the context of Islamic holy war, because they (the attackers) attacked targets instead of defending themselves from threats, such as aggression," he said.
The problem is that the idea of self-defense is so elastic as to allow for offensive attacks. So that the morality of such attacks is in the eye of the beholder.

George W. Bush's 'war on terror' has tarnished their image. - from article above
And the administration continues to view the war in terms of "America's image overseas."
Has this become a war of images?
I believe the entire world is dimly, perhaps unconciously, aware that what is taking place is a huge clash of metaphysical thought.
What is reality? That is the question.

I guess this just comes down to the fact that it's okay, in Islam, to kill non-Muslims and wage jihad where it belongs (in dar ul Harb) instead of where it doesn't belong (in dar ul Islam, where there is a risk of killing Muslims).

The Al Aksa Brigade of the PA is just engaged in self defence in Natanya Israel this past while.
Bomb the Abbas HQ.
War is war.
Win it.

I agree with DGene in this case.
No, of course the Indonesia suicide bombings CANNOT be "jihad"... BECAUSE innocent civilians were killed. SINCE Islam "forbids" the killing of "innocent civilians" (nudge-nudge, wink-wink) THEN it couldn't have possible been "Jihad" ... and in fact, the murderers couldn't have possilby been "real" Muslims.
See how it works?

Based on his nighttime hallucinations, Muhammad founded a savage religion. This is Muhammad style situational ethics. The Muhammad tribe (called the Ummah these days) are the only people that count, the only people that are immune to Muhammad style savagery. Non Muslims are to be dealt with as the situation warrants

"The recent suicide bombings were out of the context of Islamic holy war, because they (the attackers) attacked targets instead of defending themselves from threats, such as aggression," he said
My online dictionary defines "aggression" as hostile or destructive behavior or actions. Further, "hostility" is defined as conflict, opposition, or resistance in thought or principle.
Since Muslims clearly consider the refusal by infidels to convert to Islam, pay the jizya, or relinquish land previously controlled by Muslims to be hostile acts, all violence against infidels is justified. Do we really need international conferences to understand this?

Another so-called "moderate Islamic state" (Indonesia) bites the dust. And this, with the use of mumbo jumbo palmed off on us as supposedly self-evident and legitimate discourse by militant Islamic 'hardliners' who have to know they are actually giving us crap, while Indonesia descends into the unparalleled horrors of the mind-numbing hell that is Islamofascism.
It is very likely that Indonesia will never be the same and that the Indonesia many of us once knew will be gone forever.
Indonesia has now become the Republic of bin-donesia. It will never be the same.

Nice try, hardliners, but we all know that the whole world is a combat zone until the jihadis have transformed it into their version of Dar al Salaam.

And according to them, killing innocent civilians, women and children isn't murder..........

I agree with dgeone and Kj (as always it seems).
There is nothing Israel can do to win the war of public relations, if for no other reason than that the Muslim and Arab world has so much economic opportunity and oil for the capitalists (It's true though, America and Europe corporations fall all over themselves to get into Muslim markets, and of course there is the oil factor, Diamonds, gold, and other natural resources. And Israel has how much oil, and how big a market for BMW's, Chevy's, McBurgers, Pepsi, Coke, TV's,Satellite Dishes, VCR, Computers, software, not to mention the airliners (and fighters) that Boeing, Lockheed, Europe (Airbus, Mirage, Tornados) that they have sold and can sell to the Arabs?
Israel is damned if does and doomed if it doesn't,and the only rational course of action is to stop playing games, pull out the stops and get on with it...pound them till there is no Hizbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Fatah left standing.. and then stare across the borders to Syria, Iran, Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia and say "Next".

Ergo, should Indonesia collapse into a collection of states, let it be. The same goes for Sudan and a few others. America should say that it will not bankrupt itself propping up states in which there is no working societal contract.

From Monty Python and the Holy Grail:
BEDEVERE: Exactly. So, logically...
VILLAGER #1: If... she... weighs... the same as a duck,... she's made of wood.
BEDEVERE: And therefore?
VILLAGER #2: A witch!
VILLAGER #1: A witch!
CROWD: A witch! A witch!...

Memo to Kepha-
Indonesia's collapse into smaller states would be no big deal to anyone, least of all Shiva or myself. But that is NOT the trouble with Indonesia presently!!!!!!!
What we are saying here is that Indonesians' excursion into Islamo-fascism will result in the destruction of its cultural identity and thousands of years of cultural evolution! It's a oneway trip to hell.
That is why this is a tragedy of historical proportions.
And THAT is the reason we are calling it bin-donesia.
We hope you can figure THAT much out...
