Ex-Professor Won Court Case but Not His Freedom

Not all is rosy for the Rumpled Academic. From the Washington Post, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:

TAMPA, Dec. 13 -- The family and friends of former college professor Sami al-Arian greeted his acquittal on terrorism charges last week with exclamations of "Allahu akbar" -- Arabic for "God is great" -- and "God bless America."

It was, they said, a political and moral victory.

But in the week since those moments of euphoria, it has become increasingly clear to his supporters that his legal triumph was not necessarily a personal one.

Al-Arian, who was arrested more than two years ago, is still jailed as federal prosecutors decide whether to retry him on the counts on which the jury deadlocked. Even if prosecutors drop the outstanding charges, immigration authorities have indicated that he will probably remain incarcerated while he is facing deportation proceedings.

Outside the federal courthouse in Tampa on Tuesday, a civil rights group conducted a small protest and waved signs that said "Let Sami Out" and "The Jury Has Spoken."

"The anxiety is still there," al-Arian's wife, Nahla, said earlier near their home close to the University of South Florida, where al-Arian was a well-liked professor of computer science. The couple has five children. "I feel anxious. I feel tired. I want my husband back with us."...

A videotape showed al-Arian saying "Death to Israel" and a letter found at his house had him praising a suicide bombing in Israel. A close associate at the university, Ramadan Shallah, left for the Middle East in 1995 and within months became the leader of Islamic Jihad....

His supporters defend his words as a matter of free speech. His wife put them in a political context.

"What people do not understand is that victims say bad words about their victimizers," Nahla al-Arian said, when asked about some of her husband's remarks. "We are the victims. . . . We don't hate people. We don't hate the Jews. We hate the occupation."

Yeah, surrrre.

The problem with this is that it really is not just deception and hypocrisy on a grand scale.

They really do believe this garbage that they sprout and why not? It is due to the political indoctrination that they endure from childhood on and like all great liars, Islam believes its own lies, rather like the delusional paranoid.

Once you understand the depth of their political indoctrination(in the guise of a religious one) which is of such a level of uniformity and depth that Hitler and Himmler would go green with envy, you can understand they they are no different to the "Sieg Heil'ng" masses that we saw in WW2. The Fallaci comment about Mein Kampf was no fluke. The Qur'an similarly cannot be questioned, criticised or doubted and total thoughtless subservience is always demanded.

Because of this the problems inherent within Islam cannot be discussed as it is infallible so the blame for problems has to be attributed to other influences and hence we see the political basis to the indoctrination where all the problems that Islam suffes are due to the west, Christianity, Jews etc but NEVER to the real source...the Qur'an.

As Muslims become more numerous in the USA, it will become increasingly difficult to keep them off juries trying terrorism cases. The argument will be made that Muslims are no less capable of objectivity as anyone else and that therefore, excluding them from juries trying terror cases is religious discrimination.

The problems associated with the unanimous jury system transcend the issue of Muslims. Anyone with an agenda can thwart the dispensation of justice. A decade or so ago, some black leaders were encouraging blacks on juries to acquit black drug-dealers because the harsher penalties mandated for drug-dealing were "discriminatory." Several high-profile cases that were considered cut-and-dried ended up with hung juries. In all of them, a single black juror refused to convict.

The unanimous jury systen has become obsolete and ineffectual in an increasingly polarized and balkanized society. It's time to introduce laws requiring only a super-majority (8 or 9 votes) for a conviction or acquittal.

Justice depends on it.

Cornelius,
You make a good point: "As Muslims become more numerous in the USA, it will become increasingly difficult to keep them off juries trying terrorism cases."

And add to that the political correctness about Islam, and one gets the feeling that our justice sytem is in real jeopardy.

CAIR's gloating over this case makes me want to throw up. Such arrogance!

Mrs. Al-Arian whined, "I am tired. I am anxious. I want my husband back..." Well, Mrs. A., those left behind after a loved one was blown up with bombs that your husband raised money to pay for, are always tired, anxious and miss their family member(s). Those victims are never coming back. Her whining also included labeling the Al-Arians as "victims." Cry me a river, Nahla. And, start packing. Your time in the USA is short. But, don't worry too much. You will have most of the Western creature comforts that you claim you hate and can't really live without. I bet that the rumpled professor will be offered a well-paying job at the American University in Cairo or a university in Beruit. There, you can all continue to be well-paid victims of Israel AND the USA.

Cornelius-

If the rumpled academic is deported, maybe they will get the hint this isn't a good place to "try it on". Less immigration into an unfriendly climate?

At least I hope so!

So a "civil rights" group was defending him. It's one of the ugly phenomena of our times that all kinds of sublime values, freedom, rights, peace, humanitarianism, etc., are recruited to justify and protect and encourage the worst enemies of mankind.

Hey Sami:

Don't like it in the slammer? Why don't you take up weightlifting? That should occupy your time.

Better still, become a novelist, a children's novelist. You could demonstrate that you have "turned your life around". Think of all the children you could help and inspire. Think of all the Hollywood celebrities who would ingratiate themselves for you. You could become a cause celebre.

Of course. They don't hate the Jews, they just hate the Zionists.

Not necesarily, there has been many documented cases of family members cheering,Allah-Akbarring, shooting guns into the air etc when they've learned a family member has suicide bombed. They celebrate the day as if it's a wedding, because they "know": they're loved one is in heaven screwing his whoris.
