Mums the word on Ahmadinejad

Just to expound upon the point made by Mr. Spencer in his last entry, the silence of the Arab world concerning the recent vitriol of President Ahmadinejad has been deafening. From the AP:

Arab governments appeared reluctant Thursday to condemn Iran's president for calling the Holocaust a "myth" used by Europeans to create a Jewish state in the heart of the Islamic world.

While official Arab reaction in such cases is usually slower than international reaction, any issue involving a defense of Israel is a thorny one for Arab governments, who risk appearing to side with Israel against a Muslim nation.

The comments by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, broadcast live Wednesday on state-run Iranian television, drew quick condemnation from Israel, the European Union and the United States.

However, in the United Arab Emirates, the top three Arabic-language newspapers buried the remarks deep in their Thursday editions, with no commentary. Newspapers in the country are government-controlled.

In neighboring Saudi Arabia, government-controlled newspapers picked up the statements from international news agencies and ran them on inside pages. They did not comment on them.

Arabic language newspapers circulated widely in the Arab world, such as the London-based Al-Hayat and Asharq Al-Awsat, carried the news on their front pages, but also without editorials.

A few years ago, under the leadership of former president Mohammad Khatami, Iran made strides to repair and strengthen ties with its Arab neighbors. But Ahmadinejad's ultraconservative positions and rhetoric dating to the 1979 Islamic revolution has again made Arab states view Iran with caution.

Still, Arab governments are loath to appear to support Israel against Iran, especially at a time when the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the war in Iraq remain unresolved.

Yes, we couldn't have that...

Patrick:

I'm not sure mum is quite the word for it. Most of them have said the same thing in one forum or another, but not as frequently or as publicly. Then, there's the matter of Mahmoud Abbas's own doctoral thesis and the general popularity of Holocaust denial in the Arab and Muslim media.

Besides, hasn't the allegation that the Holocaust is a hoax has been a been a favoured example of the control Jews and Israel have over the media, etc., and verification of just how devious and contemptable Jews are? How could they let go of that. It would be almost as devastating as acknowledging that about half of Israel's Jewish population were displaced from Muslim countries.

Islamic governments must be wondering why is Ahmadinejad saying now more openly what they have been saying in Arabic, English, Urdu, Malay, for the past thirty or forty years.

Why now?

No, no, never appear to be on the side of Israel, even if it means being silent in the face of barbarism and siding with evil and condoning wholesale slaughter of innocent people. Naw, Allah forbids it. They got the "loath" part right.

"Ahmadinejad's ultraconservative positions..."
-- Associated Press

Just exactly what is conservative about Ahmadinejad, or any devout Moslem? To me they are free-wheeling radicals.

As with the "race riots" in Sydney, we're steadily losing the war of words, one word usage at a time.

These fools can read their own Koran and cannot deny the hate therein embodied.

Ain't you proud, Muslims ?

Why dont you boast about your religion of peace ?

Saudi envoy rejects Iranian's comments on Holocaust Fri. 16 Dec 2005

Washington Post

By Glenn Kessler
Washington Post Staff Writer

Prince Turki al-Faisal, Saudi Arabia's new ambassador to the United States, took issue yesterday with the Iranian president's description of the Holocaust as a myth, saying the "horrific genocide" is a "historical fact" no longer in dispute.

No longer in dispute? I never thought it was.
Except for maybe a few boneheaded fools! It doesnt take very many brains or very much effort to find the thousands of pictures and I witness testamonials from thousands of people over decades of time to verify the fact that 46 million people died in world war 11. Of which at least 6 million were Jews. Duh!

It's just a ruse to get the full attention of the media and Europe on the president of Iran while they do something they do know want known behind the scenes.

From the Dec. 15 issue of the Washinton Post:

"Prince Turki al-Faisal, Saudi Arabia’s new ambassador to the United States, took issue yesterday with the Iranian president’s description of the Holocaust as a myth, saying the “horrific genocide” is a “historical fact” no longer in dispute."

Seems that one Arab government isn't keeping quiet. More at Crossroads Arabia
