Jihadists threaten to upgrade missiles

Now wait a minute. I thought they were so desperately poor they had to resort to suicide bombing for lack of any other weapons. This propaganda line is getting really hard to follow. "Terrorists threaten to upgrade missiles," from the Jerusalem Post, with thanks to Johnny and Lisa:

Three armed Palestinian groups in the Gaza Strip on Monday threatened to continue their attacks on Israel and said they have long-range missiles capable of reaching more Israeli towns and cities.

One of the groups belongs to Fatah, the ruling party headed by Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. The two others are the Popular Resistance Committees, an alliance of various armed groups, and al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad.

Do the countries that give financial aid to the Palestinians carefully follow the money trail?

I would hate to think that the US,and Britain are major supporters of Hamas. Come to think of it,isnt Hamas the terrorist group that has sworn to destroy Israel and stands firmly with it 36 articles of the Hamas charter, and are they not set to gain seats in Palestine?

Abbas says that he is putting a hold on the new and upcoming elections in february because there is to much strong support among Palestinians for Hamas candidates. This will be interesting.

Israel is going ahead and building a buffer zone along the west bank in an effort to protect Israel from the rockets coming from the fatah, and Hamas who are already fortifying themselves in the west bank.

"I thought they were so desperately poor they had to resort to suicide bombing for lack of any other weapons"

I envision the Jihadists catapulting one of their own set to explode upon impact. The catapult technology has improved somewhat, extending the range.

One longer range missile launched from Gaza or the West Bank into an Israeli town would mark the end of this ludicrous experiment in "Palestinian" self-government.

Russian Police officers have been training the Palestinian security forces since late October. These Russian intelligence officers apparently came into Gaza during an Israeli news blackout.

This is apparently the first Russian military presence in a Palestinian war zone against Israel and a flagrant Egyptian violation of its commitments under the new military protocols it signed with Israel to bar the Philadelphi border crossing to foreign military personnel. Israeli officials were "floored" by the violation, reported Israeli military sources.

Egypt clearly engineered this entry. "The Russian officers were flown in directly from Moscow to Cairo and then overland to the Egyptian side of Rafah where they were welcomed by Egyptian military intelligence officers. No notice was received in Jerusalem.

According to China's Xinhua news agency, Russia announced it would donate 55 armored vehicles to the Palestinian police, along with light weapons and electronic X-Ray security machines, Israel has so far opposed the move after effectively losing control over the Egyptian-Gaza border.

More serious is the far heavier armaments reported to be on the way. According to Debkafile, Putin has promised the Palestinian Authority in Gaza 1,000 armored personnel carriers and is going through with the sale of the state of the art Iskander SS-26 surface missiles. The state of the art SS-26 model which the Russians export is believed to have a range of 300 km, placing all of Israel in its range of its 480 kg warhead.

Israel correspondent Oded Granot noted that Egypt warned Israel that the Palestinians had smuggled longer-range Qassam rockets during the Egyptian-Palestinian security hiatus on the border.
