JEMAAH Islamiah-linked terrorists in southern Thailand are believed to be planning to transform their insurgency from attacks against the Thai state to bombings of Western tourists.US terrorism expert Zachary Abuza has told The Australian that the Muslim insurgency could spread from the hinterland to beach resorts, such as Phuket, frequented by Western tourists.
Dr Abuza will tell the Foreign Correspondents Club in Bangkok tonight there are also reasons to believe that JI may become involved in such a plan being hatched by Thai insurgents.

The phrase "Whistling in the dark" comes to mind. What I don't understand is why the muslims would want to ruin the economy. Will someone *please* explain that to me?

The dominance of Islam is all that counts to the Muslims. Economic development in the temporal world really is of no consequence or significance. All that counts is submission to Allah (Satan?)while alive and a proper death in service to the spreading of Islamic dominion.
It's sort of like the movie "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." Everyone gets turned into plants.

See "Plateforme" by Michel Houllebecq -- in either French or English. The climactic scene is an attack by Muslim terrorists on a resort in southern Thailand catering to Westerners. Houllebecq is the writer against whom a suit was brought -- it was subsequently thrown out -- for his remark that "Islam is the most stupid of religions."

Im of the opinion that the Thai Muslims will stay away from Phuket at the moment - as they don't have their network in place yet in that area.
Keep an eye though on Koh Samui and Haadyai though.

The Qura'n instructs muslims to convert or kill all infidels (that's any non-muslim), by any means possible. Destroying the western (free) economy is a way to destroy freedom. That, ultimately, is their goal. Freedom is incompatible with Islam because true believers must not allow any to remain alive who have not been converted.

From time to time i patronize a small thai restuarant here in my hometown. the women who run this place are angels to their customers. all of them immigrated legally to the usa some 15 years ago. they all have family and friends remaining in thailand. recently i brought up the issue of islamists persecuting thai folk in the land of their forefathers. the first time i ever saw one of these women scowl was at the mention of the word muslim/islamists. i was told in no uncertain terms a war has been ongoing for decades between the muslims and the non-muslims in thailand and the non-muslims were getting out because none of the non-muslims were getting any support to fight back: only the muslims were getting support to kill. these women hated the muslims taking over their homeland. and no, the take over was not through peaceful conversion. it was through violent intimidation and conquest.

I'm rather surprised there hasn't already been terrorist attacks at the tourist resorts. I wouldn't be surprised however, if any such attacks resulted in some nasty behaviour on the part of non-Muslim Thais.

I predicted this a few months back right here in this Comments section of Jihad Watch.....
Now, why would terrorist Muslims wish to wreck a nation like Thailand's economy? Why, so that they can take control of the country's political infrastructure the way Hitler did in Germany in the 1930s and the way Taliban did in Afghanistan in the late 1990s with help from Pakistan's ISI or even the way Pol Pot did in Cambodia did in the late 1970s. When the masses are unable to buy anything they have little capacity to defend themselves either. The militant islamic lobby moves in --armed to the teeth-- and replaces the existing government with an islamic one. And voila! instant islamia!
Yes, Islam is THAT evil--or yet more so.

Before Islam arrives
Employemnt is around 80 - 95%
Islam comes in and the results
1. Muslims take over area
2. Muslims drive out business
3. Muslims then start killing customers
4. Muslims start blowing up hotels.
5. Muslim suicide bombers blow up resturants
6. Muslims start downing aircraft.
Employment drops to 5% (and all those jobs) are in the government...
Muslims blame the zionists and the west for the unemployment...
Am i missing something here...
Or perhaps we should outlaw Islam
As it is a direct threat to all freedom loving peaceful people..
