More utter stark-raving cartoon madness. An update on this story from AP:
PESHAWAR, Pakistan - Gunfire and rioting erupted Wednesday as tens of thousands of people took to the streets in several Pakistani cities during the country's third consecutive day of violent protests over the Prophet Muhammad cartoons. Three people were killed, including an 8-year-old boy.More than 70,000 people flooded the streets of the northwestern city of Peshawar, said Saeed Wazir, a senior police officer. The massive crowd went on a rampage, torching businesses and fighting police, who struck back with tear gas and batons. A bus terminal operated by South Korea's Sammi Corp. was torched, police said.
Protesters burned a KFC restaurant, three movie theaters and the offices of the main mobile phone company in the country. A Norwegian mobile phone company's offices were also ransacked. Gunfire was heard near the burning KFC, as police tried to clear people from a main street, witnesses said.
An 8-year-old boy died after being struck in the face by a bullet fired by a protester, police officer Shahid Khan said. A 25-year-old man was killed by an electric cable that was snapped by gunfire, said the man's cousin, Jehangir Khan.
At least 45 people were being treated for injuries in Peshawar's two state-run hospitals, Khan and witnesses said....
Demonstrations around Asia and the Middle East over the cartoons — which first appeared in a Danish newspaper in September and have been reprinted by other Western newspapers — have subsided in recent days, including in Afghanistan, where 11 people died in riots last week.
Many Muslims regard any depiction of the prophet as blasphemous. They reject the newspapers' explanations that the cartoons have news value and represent free speech....
Hundreds of Afghan refugees joined the protest in Peshawar, the capital of the conservative North West Frontier Province. Many chanted "Death to Denmark!" and "Hang those who drew the insulting cartoons!" Others burned Danish flags and effigies of the Danish prime minister.
Rioting also broke out Wednesday in the northwestern town of Tank, near the South Waziristan tribal region where security officials have said al-Qaida-linked foreign fighters are hiding. Protesters set fire to 30 shops selling CDs, DVDs, and videos, said Attiq Wazir, a local police official. Suspected Islamic militants had warned music shops to close, witnesses said.
One policeman was injured when a protester opened fire to resist arrest.
In the eastern city of Lahore, fighting flared up for the second straight day. A 30-year-old man was shot dead in a clash with police as about 1,500 students staged a rally outside a university, hospital and police officials said.
On Tuesday, thousands of protesters went on a rampage in Lahore, burning Western businesses including McDonald's, KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants. Two people died and police detained 125 people, a police official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.
Violent protests also erupted Tuesday in the capital, Islamabad. More than 1,000 students forced their way into a heavily guarded enclave housing foreign embassies. They damaged cars and a bank building, but were quickly expelled from the area with tear gas and water cannons.
Elsewhere in Asia, hundreds of Muslim protesters ripped apart and burned Danish flags Wednesday in a rally at the Danish honorary consulate in Manila, the Philippines.
In Muslim-majority Malaysia, the government ordered Guang Ming, the country's third largest Chinese-language newspaper, to halt publication of its evening edition for two weeks as punishment for printing a photograph in which the cartoons were visible.

I wonder how many would be dead if this wasn't an islamic sanctioned riot.
I'm sure if the protests were over REAL freedom of speech, freedom of religion or women's rights, the jails, hospitals and morgues would be overflowing.
Instead of using water cannons they would have used deadly force.

2 dead, 13 injured people had been taken to the hospital. Of them, five suffered bullet injuries, he said, adding that three of them were in a critical condition.
Around 500 vehicles, mainly cars, & at least 75 motorcycles and 10 cars were burnt by the protesters.
All traffic signals on The Mall, Egerton Road, Hall Road, Laxmi Chowk, Bhati Chowk and some on Ferozpur Road and Multan Road were broken completely.
I have frequented a lot of these shoping malls in the past.....it is very sickenining & frightening to see this demolishment.
In Lahore, thousands of people, from various religious parties and seminary students, had taken to the street on a strike call given by the Tahaffuz Namoos-i-Risalat Mahaz,
It was too late called when the Pakistan Rangers got in ....the situation in the street had turned ugly.
Frighteningly, the Lahore operations police chief Aamir Zulfikar Khan, was not in a good shape after being held hostage for 15 minutes by the rioters themselves..... He had to go to the Services Hospital for treatment himself.
The Lower Mall police station was the first that was pelted with stones.
One of the groups put a hotel and a car showroom with four new cars inside on fire at the Dyal Singh Mansion near the Regal Chowk, another group attacked American fast food restaurant, two banks, all the four buildings were reduced to ashes long before fire brigade got to the scene.
The rioters broke glasses of shops on both sides of The Mall and on reaching the Charing Cross, they vandalised the building of another bank and burnt two more vehicles.
The police resorted to teargas shelling, but the protesters attacked the Punjab Assembly building, but it still got burned.
I am appaled by the chaos in my backyard. The Danish people have been completely irresponsible ....taking this freedom of speech too far. Thay should look at the damage done....pay for some of it ...or come in the middle of these madman and feel some of the anger.
Denmark must be held accountable for the damage all over the orld.

1.Were these riots 'spontaneous' or stage-managed?
2.Do these riots, obviously supported by the clergy have the backing of the intelligence agencies and sections of the militray and police?
3.Are both shias and sunnis involved in these riots or is it along sectarian lines?
4.If more cartoons are published, can we expect more riots and destruction of public and private property?

No, the Danes aren't to blame for the riots. Just because they printed something that is considered blasphemy (how can somethimg be blasphemy if it's true)doesn't mean that all this chaos is their fault.
The rioters and the instigators (religious fanatics) have to TAKE RESPONSIBLITY for their own actions.
If Imams call for chaos and these people respond with setting fires, killing each other, destroying property, these individuals are responsible for their actions.

From a pukistani newspaper (LINK), these people were simply penniless and hungry.
The raiders entered the Askari Bank building in Bank Square and robbed money and computers and destroyed the bank’s furniture Another group of thugs broke into McDonalds restaurant nearby, chained, beat and burnt ‘Ronald McDonald’ the clown, robbed all the cash and ate the food. They also brutalised people inside the restaurant.
The outlaws entered Pizza Hut on The Mall where they looted all cash and ate and ran away with pizzas, after beating the restaurant’s employees. They also broke into Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) on The Mall and robbed cash. A man was seen fleeing with frozen chicken on his motorcycle.
The plunderers broke into Allied Electronics and robbed vacuum cleaners, irons and air conditioners. They broke the ATM outside Muslim Commercial Bank on The Mall. The also broke into McDonalds restaurant on Edgerton Road, looted cash and beat the employees. Another mob broke into Shezan bakery in Garhi Shahu and robbed cash and food.
The robbers robbed more than 25 shops on and around the road from Naqi Arcade to Alfalah Bank, and also looted some not so valuable goods including readymade garments and shoes.

From what I've read . . .the rioters haven't even had the opportunity to view the cartoons for which they rage against.
The rioters rage because they were incited by their own doctrine of hate. They shall suffer the consequences of this overwhelming hate and violence as well, for there is nothing in their religion that will save them from themselves.

Your backwards logic is astounding. You list all of those atrocities and then lay the blame on the Danes. Ignorance is apparently highly regarded on your planet.
On this planet, however, the Muslims caused all of the rioting (months after they were originally published, but that’s beside the point) and all of the destruction and the killing all over a few cartoons in a Danish newspaper –a Danish newspaper in Denmark, not in Islamic lands. The rules that may apply in Islamic lands do not necessarily apply in non-Islamic lands at all. To which, living in a free society, I’m highly thankful.
For God’s sake, when are the barbarous Muslims going to stand up and take some responsibility for their own disgusting, violent actions? Ever? Probably not, because I’ve seen with my own eyes for far too long their masterful manipulation of facts and twisting of logic (just like Naseem’s trying here, only much less successfully) into fantastical realms that befuddle and confuse those with logical thinking minds. Spin doctors supreme! Funnier still, to me, is that when Mo’s shown wearing a bomb on his head instead of a turban, depicting in a rather clever way the inherent violence in Islam, the Muslims respond with violence and do nothing more than to support the stereotype! I thought Islam was supposed to be a religion of peace and tolerance –this has blown open the doors and shown the truth behind this ‘religion’. Hilarious! I suppose it’s considered a ‘religion of peace’ once it’s killed everybody –only then will there truly be peace, I suppose.

This projection of blame is a common element of the pathology of the criminal mind. It is so universal among criminals that police interrogation techniques exploit it in almost every interview. One of the most effective techniques is to ask the criminal things like, "What did the stupid victim do that left you no choice but to put the axe in their stupid head?" Amazingly, or perhaps not so amazingly, a great number of them confess to their crimes quite readily when they are questioned in this manner. Perhaps they believe that the police truly sympathize with their worldview. The technique validates the criminal's sense of their own victimhood. As a victim, they can perpetrate their crimes without assuming any blame and thus anesthetize any shred of remorse or responsibility that may yet linger in their subconscious.

However there is little control to be exercised when you have upto 50,000 protestors...amongst which there are thieves...and people who are hungry....I mean ...protesting carrying those heavy sticks, swords, gardening forks and shouting at the top of your voice is hard work.
Bullies get carried away, buildings get damaged and Lahore (my home town) is a lot worse for wear..to look at and more frightening to live in.
You cannot legislate for morons and thugs...they are in all societies. The best you can do is try & keep your yard & town clean.
Now to the educated West this is all a nonsense...all over cartoons....nothing much is sacred in there anymore.
But people in the East love their prophet and is the MOST sacred posession to them. It's a different frame of reference to them....and while this is over here...it is of little consequence to you over there.

sovereign land. The Danes have absolutely no reason to follow the laws of islam.
The destruction in your country is the sole responsibility of your own
citizens. Raging, burning, killing all done for cartoons printed in a different

Okay, I can see some of your points and do agree that idiot mentality abounds in all cultures and civilizations, but when it becomes the norm and the majority of an entire group of, as you so eloquently put it yourself, ‘thieves’, that’s when my nerves begin to fray. Believe me, it’s a good thing that Islam has been insulted –no one should be above insult, living or dead. Islam is responsible. The muslim leaders told those people to go out and do damage and smile for the camera while they were at it. There has been discussion about the cartoons all over the world. Riots only happened in the countries under the control of the imans.

The chaos in Pakistan is growing daily. If the likes of bin Laden and his crony thugs succeed in fomenting the demise of Musharraf, the nuclear arsenal that is loosely managed by Islamic fundamentalist military leaders, will easily fall into their hands. So forget about Iran and its potential for acquiring nuclear weapons, those weapons already exist and are an inch away from the sticky hands of bin Laden et al.
The stakes in Pakistan are much higher than any associated with trashing some fast food restaurants.

Since all they did was draw pictures (and attention to the violent and intolerant face of Mohammad) in the first place.

Naseem, below are the ten commandments which I and most Christians try to live by. If our God is one and the same - I believe mulims are breaking His laws going and coming. You say pictures of your prophet are blasphemous because they may lead you to idolize your prophet. I say that it is very obvious that you do idoloze him. I don’t think you realize what you are really saying. If it is our fault for the bad behavior of Mohammadans world wide, then the west must have complete and total control over Moslems. It is the only way it can be our fault. The Mohammadan must be the puppet dangling from infidel strings. The only way I can make you do something, is if I have authority over you. Only the master can control the slave. So every time you Mohammadans blame us, you are really saying, that you are our servant, and we rule over you with complete control.

If I were living in the Middle East, I would find a deep hole, stock it with food & water for a protracted stay, and arrange to seal the entry with a good 200 lb manhole cover. In the near term, I'd not stray far from it.
Further, it would be wise to practice, or invent, survival techniques suitable for a desolate landscape of radioactive, fused sand.

Did the reporters consider the possibility that there was an Islamic wedding being held nearby? That would account for the multiple gunshot victims. Maybe it's wrong, but I find these descriptions of Islamic celebrations-gone-wild quite amusing. Does anyone remember that "Jackass" show on MTV a couple of years ago, where the host would do things like cover his body with hamburger patties and then go lie on a barbecue grill or hit himself in the head with a baseball bat?

I would like to start by saying that it's good to see that the whole world realizing just now(or since 911) the pleague that carries the name "Islam".
For years those towel heads have been killing our ppl here on a weekly if not daily base.

Good to have you on board - I have always said that I greatly admire the jewish work ethic. I have tried to get the muslilm to share some of that but the problem is one of percieved superiority.
You see for 1000 long years the jew has been seen as a dhimmi and muslims got tax but now no more....infact it could work the other way.
Muslims especially in the ME are about 50-200 years behind in knowing this...and some of them don't realise that the rest of the world has left them behind.
So they need to be fast track educated, I'd like them to cosy up to the Israeli and get them to teach us work ethic and project management because that is where we muslims are weak.
Our strength lies in our faith, and for the love of our prophet.....ironically it turns out to be our achilles heel too.....FOR NOW.

My pint here is simple, had the Arabs rejected Mohammad way back when then a whole lot of people would still be alive. Im talking about hundreds of thousands of people not just a handful that wouldn’t have had their life cut short by these Moslems doing Mohammad’s will.
P.S. It is impossible to make someone do something, unless you have control over them. So what will we make the Moslems do tomorrow?

1.don't call ppl here "infidels" - these ppl serve god in a better way any muslim would ever do! muslims have no idea of spirituality... they confuse if with anger and death.
and those american "infidels" are the ppl who finance 3/4 of the muslim countries so give them the respect they deserve.
2.u refer to the americans as if they don't get it,but it is clear to see that we all get it (all human beings of this earth), but the muslim animals they are the ones who actually really don't get it. allow me to elaborate.
all major religions (jewdahism, christianity ect.) had been revised over the years and adapted themselves to the modern times and the modern world. but guess who stayed 2000 years behind and had no revision since it was invented by the pig who i like to call muhammad? u guessed it right... ISLAM!!!
