From the BBC:
Israel's cabinet has approved punitive sanctions on the Palestinian Authority, now led by militant group Hamas.Israel will withhold an estimated $50m (£28m) in monthly customs revenues due to the PA, and will tighten borders for people and food crossing into Gaza.
Before the cabinet meeting, acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert called the Hamas-led PA a "terrorist authority" and ruled out direct talks...
The newly-elected speaker of the Palestinian parliament, Aziz Duaik, said Israel's decision would prove counter-productive.
"This is a faulty decision, and the Israelis must reconsider their decision. It will only increase hatred."...
Veiled threats, blackmail and extortion have proven to be very effective diplomatic tools in the past, whether they were wielded by Arafat, Abbas, or now Hamas in an official capacity. Heavens, we wouldn't want to make an already volatile situation worse, now would we?

"This is a faulty decision, and the Israelis must reconsider their decision. It will only increase hatred."...
An oxymoron to say the least. Hamas was built on and driven by a feeding frenzy of hate for Jews. It in fact represents their entire foundation lead by the never ending indoctrination to its 36 articles of the Hamas Charter.
Whether you feed it or not, it will continue to strike out with its venomous fangs against the Jewish people. Hamas displays no compunction for its acts because it believes that it is their one great cause with the blessings of allah to drive Israel into the sea through destruction and humiliation.

Years of appeasement and jizya have been a disaster. Why are the Wests' leaders so obsessed with appeasement and jizya when they clearly work against us. It is time to try confrontation and cutting off the jizya. I am sure Condi is scheming right now how she can sneak jizya to Hamas. She is like a drug addict, addicted to jizyah. She assumes without it, the Palestiniains will collapse into chaos. So, who cares. Let the Saudis and Iranians and Russia pay the jizyah!

Why doesn't the world sit up and take notice , that after all these years of supporting their butts, they still can't take care of themselves.
Does a parent let an 18 yr. old child who won't work, won't get a job, won't go to school, won't clean his room, curses them, throws something at them and then screams give me the car keys and money, continue to support them??
No.
Stop supporting them. Let them suffer. Force them to grow up and change their ways and get along with the rest of us.

Hamas has been getting support from SIR all the while for the violent acts. They admitted as much recently on their website to receiving financing and training from Hezbollah. Just follow the trail.
(Of course for all those lawyers in the Admin., without an official letter of intent there is no proof.)
Something that Foggy Bottom refused to pay attention to these past 5 years was that besides the arms flow through the arms smuggling tunnels from Egypt into Gaza there was also the movement of Hezbollah tarining and practicing with perfecting those "shaped charges" now used to such deadly effect in Iraq.
Only the stupid or perfidious will state that Egypt knew nothing about the coming and going of the executives in business suits.
Not only did they 'fool' the Admin., ( A fooooled ya!) but ripped them off for millions which kept the Swiss happy.
Would the term "double jeopardy" serve here for the Admin? But I suppose only if they realise that they were had for suckers.

Other suggestion for Israel - force Palestinians who want to commute between WB and GS to take a circular route via Jordan, Gulf of Aqaba, Sinai, Gaza.
And ban Palestinians from working in Israel.

How can this be? We couldn't possibly hate them any more than we already do.
Oh! Sorry, their hatred for us! I get it now.
Last week, there was an editorial in Asharq Alawsat demanding that the West keep giving Hamas money, that doing so would prove that we respect democracy, that we would be hypocrites if we refused.

You do not feed and arm those that have decalred you an enemy and fully intend to eradicate your country and all of it citizens.
Israel is to be commended for standing for what is right and true.

Now that Hamas comes to the floor of the Palestinian legislative council with a simple majority vote of seats(74 of the 132 seats), It appears the new PM will be so-called moderate, 46 year old Ismail Haniyeh, who has also been described as a pragmatist. He was deported by Israel to south Lebanon in 1992 and returned a year later to become the dean of the Islamic University. Haniyeh has served time in an Israel prison and was a friend and protege to the late Hamas founder Ahmed Yassin. Haniyeh represents the school of thought in Hamas that believes in striking a long-term hudna (temporary truce) with Israel. In a series of statements over the past few days, Haniyeh announced that Hamas would be prepared to accept an independent state within the 1967 boundaries.
Hamas sources said Haniyeh played a significant role in persuading his movement to accept the Egyptian-brokered cease-fire, or tahdiyah (calm), that was reached in Cairo last year among representatives of various Palestinian factions. Haniyeh has been known to not use the aggressive rheteric that so many other Hamas leaders do. It will interesting to see how he comports himself on the international scene while holding fast to the Hamas Charter.

John,
You hit the nail on the head. Condi looked lik a parrot repeating 'Diplomacy, Diplomacy, Diplomacy'. Any wonder she was shelling out $ 100 monthly jaziya for terrorists? A senior govt. official should know that Diplomacy has it's own limits, after which, it doesn't work. And I agree.. Muslim problms are their on creations and best left to them.
Like the old saying... Where salt is needed, sugar won't do.

When I read the words above......they sound so American......like a Muzzie sympathizer who attends one of our very liberal colleges. Could you be a convert to this DEATH CULT........or just a bored college student with nothing better to do with his time? Possibly another Engineering student whose parents lost their way during the "Make Love...Not War....Movement."

I saw a spokesman for Hamas whining on TV about Israel interfering with the democratic process by withholding funds. This from a group that kills civilians and is dedicated to Israel's destruction.Only Muslims could be so brazen. The Palestinians have been on worldwide "welfare" for about 60 years with no improvement. They've managed to become more violent and impoverished. So why continue paying them?If Muslims and Arabs love the Palestinians so much let them begin supporting them.
Lets see how long their fellow Muslims want to feed the Palestinians.

I thought the Jews were so cunning?
All they need to do is buy $50 million worth of clearly marked Danish goods (helping the boycott against Denmark), and deliver the stuff to Hamas.
The smoke from that bonfire of the insanities will be visible all the way to Copenhagen.
Everyone's happy.

"I saw a spokesman for Hamas whining on TV about Israel interfering with the democratic process by withholding funds."
It is only in an Orwellian world that anyone can, with a straight face, make the claim that denial of funds from another country's taxpayers is an interference with the democratic process. The reply should be that part of the democratic process is living with the consequences of choices made democratically.

Mackie sez:
"...Whether you feed it or not, it will continue to strike out with its venomous fangs against the Jewish people..."
Not feeding the monster makes sense, especially when dealing with the senseless Pali-arabs...
And no, profitsbeard:
Israel has plenty of needy people who would appreciate fifty million $$$'s worth of Danish goods. Anything given to the pali-arabs goes up in smoke eventually, until they are utterly defeated and resettled in Jordan Syria and Egypt.

The Israeli government may not quite grasp this -- successive Israeli governments have grasped so little -- but they are under no obligation to do anything for those whose earnest desire it is to destroy Israel. They need not turn over to this government, or to the previous one, or to any future one, any money at all. They need not supply electricity or water to those who would, if they could, wipe out every last man, woman, and child in Israel. It makes no sense to act as if one has an obligation -- a "humanitarian" obligation -- to do so.
Nonsense. No such humanitarian considerations were made when the Allies realized what they were up against. Bomber Harris did not carefully spare civilians in Hamburg and Dresden, nor did the American, British, and Canadian pilots over Germany, or the Americans over Japan.
Israel is faced with a relentless Jihad. That Jihad has no end. It is only so long as the other side is not only defeated, but clearly so, that it will refrain -- and only so long as it feels itself facing certain and repeated defeat, so that the concept of Darura, or Necessity, can be invoked to justify no longer conducting a violent Jihad (no, it will be limited to demographic Jihad, which must also be fought by making sure that the unviable state of "Palestine" is seen by the Infidels, and by Muslims alike, as permanently unviable, only capable of being kept alive on the artificial life-support system of outside aid. Once that aid is denied by all Infidels, it will be up to the many fabulously rich Arabs to support those "Palestinian" Arabs. Let them. Let them support them as much as they wish -- or as little. Then we'll see just how much sympathy those constantly squabbling lords-of-misrule, demanding still more and more support from rich Arabs, will continue to receive.
Let support for this "Palestine" -- which is merely an instrument to be used against the Infidel-run state of Israel, not to create anything of value in itself -- be an entirely intra-Muslim affair. That will get the internecine conflicts going.
And how.

Once again Jimmy Carter shows why he is our worst ex-President. Muslims, Arabs and liberals are free to donate money to the Palestinians if they really care about them.Just leave the rest of us out of it. The Palestinians knew who and what they were electing when they voted for Hamas, now they need to face the consequences of that choice.

sheik yer'mami-
You're missing the p.r. potential of giving Danish goods to the Ham-asses and having the world witness the wanton destruction of thes articles -done merely to insult Denmark- by the terrorist PA gang.
Of course Hamas should get nothing, period, ever.
But this act would then allow Israel to give them nothing further.
And most in the world would completely understand and agree with the decision.
You have to let Hamas turn up the heat on themselves through their own arrogance and recklessness.
This would be a peaceful, relatively cheap and ironically effective way to "legally" cut off all future jizya to these s.o.b.'s.

Even if I lost the most of my intelligence and brains, I would still have more than any four or five hundred million brain dead Muslims put together.
Islam's time is running our. One of your brain dead terroristic Muslim brothers will finally do something stupid in American and wake up this sleeping giant of America and you will see what 230 million Americans can do to 1.3 billion Muslims.
My one wish, for you focking Islamic cowards is to get it started now so America and the western civilizations can destroy Islam and then we can go back to our civilized debauchery in peace.
