Australian jihadist planned power grid bombings

Australian Jihad Update. "Lodhi 'planned power grid bombings,'" from AAP, with thanks to all who sent this in:

A SYDNEY man plotted to bomb Sydney's electricity grid and various defence sites in "violent jihad", a New South Wales Supreme Court jury has been told.

Faheem Khalid Lodhi, 36, today pleaded not guilty to four counts of preparing to commit a terrorist act between October 3 and 26, 2003.

In reading the indictment against Lodhi, Justice Anthony Whealy said it was alleged he had collected two maps of Australia's electricity grid with the intention of seriously damaging it by detonating an explosive or incendiary device.

He did this with "the intent of advancing a political, religious or ideological cause, namely violent jihad," the indictment says.

Lodhi allegedly sought information on the availability of materials used to manufacture explosives and also created a set of aerial photographs of certain Australian defence establishments with the intention of detonating an explosive device.

The court was told he also allegedly possessed documents containing information relating to the ingredients and method of manufacture of poisons, explosives and detonators, as well as intelligence in connection with a terrorist act.

At least they call it Jihad...

I hope the Aussies deport him and his family.

Deportation back to dar ul islam is the severest punishment that can be handed to these Jihadis, for in dar ul islam they have no easy access to harm the Infidel world and thus gain paradise.

Don't deport him. Give him the 'power' - ask him to touch a power rail with a metal pole to see whether it's live or not.

That should do it.

Agreed, deport the entire family, tough action will be needed soon. Its fair to say this is the tip of the iceberg.

Lets hope the Australian govt is building some internment camps somewhere, they will need them in the not too distant future.

Maybe he doesn't like infidel electricity, prefers to cook over a smouldering pile of dried camel dung.

Whatever, pack him up and send him home.

Hmmmm, I'm not all that thrilled with this comment. The cause was not "violent jihad", but Islam. Plain and simple Islam. The violent bit is an integral part of Islam.

Calling it "violent jihad" gives Islam yet another free pass. And gives the impression to the many who don't know about Islam, that this 'jihad' business is actually okay, except when it's violent, like that's an aberration, a perversion. The only jihad that concerns us is the violent kind. That's the only one that they're raving about in their mosques. It's not unusual, rare, or bizarre. It's the cornerstone of that cult.

Lodhi, an architect. Don't they usually create things? Not destroy them? What sort of architect is this Lodhi? He arrived here from Pakistan in the 90's, say reports. Legally, I wonder? Or one of those many who get a tourist visa, then never leave? Probably lots of qualified architects want to move to Australia, yet we end up with this crap.
