I have long noted that Muslim reform attempts are consistently stymied by declarations from the mujahedin -- supported by Qur'an and Sunnah -- that the reformers are contravening the tenets of true Islam. These declarations, of course, are often backed up by murderous threats, in accord with the traditional Islamic death penalty for apostates and heretics.
Here is a prime example: "Arab Reformists Under Threat by Islamists: Bin Laden Urges Killing of 'Freethinkers,'" from MEMRI, with thanks to DFS:
Arab reformists are constantly threatened by Islamists, who consider freethinkers to be guilty of the worst of crimes. [1] The most recent death threat against Arab intellectuals was issued by Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.In an audiocassette released April 23, 2006, bin Laden addressed the issue of the Danish cartoons and what he regards as the Arab countries' failure to show an appropriate response. He emphasized that anyone mocking the Prophet or making fun of Islam should be killed.
Likewise, bin Laden attacked Arab "freethinkers," several of whom he mentioned by name, and called for them to be killed as well. He cited the precedent of Ka'b ibn Al-Ashraf, whom the Prophet had killed for writing poems against him, as a model for proper conduct in such cases. According to bin Laden, there is no need to consult anyone on this matter; every loyal Muslim should see it as his duty to eliminate these heretics.
The following are excerpts from bin Laden's speech, as posted by the reformist website Middle East Transparent on April 27, 2006. [2]
Freethinkers and Heretics who Defame Islam Should Be Killed
"To the entire Islamic nation...: This speech comes to further urge you and prompt you to [come to] the aid of the Prophet and punish those responsible for the vile crime being committed by some journalists from amongst the Crusaders and the apostate heretics, who have insulted the Prophet Muhammad…
"Imam Ahmad [3] said: 'Whoever reviles the Prophet or belittles him, be he Muslim or infidel, should be killed.' The freethinkers and heretics who defame Islam, and mock and scorn our noble Prophet - their case and the law concerning them have been clearly expounded by Imam Ibn Qayyim [Al-Jawziyya]. [4] He made it clear that the crime committed by a freethinker is the worst of crimes, that the damage caused by his staying alive among the Muslims is of the worst kind of damage, that he is to be killed, and that his repentance is not to be accepted...
"Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyya said, commenting on [Koran 9:12]: 'Whoever defames our religion is a leader of disbelief.' Many are the leaders of disbelief in our days in the lands of Islam, and many are the followers of Ka'b ibn Al-Ashraf in the Arabian Peninsula. [5] Many of them are writers in newspapers, and many of them are actors and broadcasters in the media. We warn here that a Muslim is not allowed to listen to any program that includes discussion with heretics, or any show that makes fun of Islam and of religious Muslims, for this is one of the greatest sins....
"Indeed, this is our Prophet's law regarding anyone who mocks him, and belittles Islam and scorns it... They should be killed... Take an example from Muhammad ibn Maslama and his companions [who assassinated the poet Ka'b ibn Al-Ashraf]. It is intolerable and outrageous that the heretics are among us, scorning our religion and our Prophet.
"Therefore, you must fear Allah and do His will. Do not consult anyone about the killing of these heretics. Be secretive in carrying out that which is required of you.
"So much for the apostate heretics."
Ka'b ibn Al-Ashraf was a poet. The Muslim Prophet Muhammad asked for his death after the poet insulted him. It is interesting to note that when I point out that Muhammad ordered the assassination of his enemies, I am reviled as an "Islamophobe." But Osama, you know, doesn't read my books. He reads the Islamic sources, and he takes for granted that his Muslim audience reads them too, and knows that what he says his true. That's why his appeal has power in the Islamic world.

But these people have been under threat, and killed, during the entire history of Islam. What would have happened to Ar-Rhazi, a dangerously unorthodox man, had he lived? What pressures were brought to bear on other famous figures in the history of Islam? More recently, there was the Egyptian Taha Hussein in the 1920s (who had declared the Mu'allaqat a later, post-Qur'anic forgery), forced to recant. There was Ali Dashti, imprisoned and tortured in his 70s,, tortured, by the Islamic Republic of Iran, for his book on Muhammad "23 Years," and dying soon after his release. There was in the Sudan Mohammad Taha, who was hung in his 80s on trumped-up apostasy. There was the murder of Farag Foda, a secularist who dared to defend the Copts, shot dead in Cairo. There was the attempt to murder Naguib Mahfouz. There was the fire set in the Turkish hotel in which dozens of Turkish secularists burned to death. Oh, it goes on and on.
Nothing new here. Just more of the Muslim same.

I did some serious mocking of the prophet this past weekend. As I stated in a prior post I made up a T-shirt with USA, Israeli an Danish flags printed on the front of the shirt. On the back down low just about butt level I have printed the infamous cartoon of Mo with the bomb in his turban. I ran a 5K race this past weekend wearing this T-shirt. This will now be my official racing jersey. Oh, by the way everyone seemed oblivious to the cartoon. And I am still alive.

Mohammed wanted the poet to be killed because the poet insulted him.According to Osama the cartoonists have insulted islam and so must be punished.
Now the Jehadies in Kashmir lined up 25 innocent HINDUS and killed them including a 3 year old girl.Their only fault is they are HINDUS.Again the Taliban in Afghanistan killed an engineer working in building the telecom network in Afghanistan.He happennes to be an ordinary HINDU worker earning his livelihood with 3 children all below 10 years.Now they killed another HINDU a year back and beheaded Nine NEPALI HINDU driveers who were earning their livelihood.
What insult these innocent HINDUS heaped on Islam? i like Osama to answer?

fars news agency is reporting that louis farrakhan supports iran's nuclear program.the leader of the us-based muslims questioned the real cause behind the us wars and called for more unity among muslim countries to deter any invasion against them.

I am not certain that even "freethinkers" is apt.
Seeing as Islam stultifies every thought process bar the brainless rumination on both the plainly intelligible parts of the Koran and those that no one can decipher they are actually against all THINKING.
Thinking implies some discipline and some structure but apart from that you can think about almost anything you wish to. Not so muslims, the aim here is to CEASE all thinking
except along Islamic "scholarly" lines plus the human animal id drives.
Remember: "If it is in the Koran we already have it, If it is not in the Koran we do not need it".
I believe that they wish to have a theocratic world of untermenschen(ie your average Muslim) who have no real education (Koran aside) and who do not feel that they need any.
Hitler and his cronies wished this upon Poland and the occupied USSR but they never looked like achieving it although they had a fair try.
Islam has turned its people into brainless robots. Someone somewhere called them "zombies" as they are dead already inside but they just do not know it. Once they gain total control of the world, technology will become pointless and will be impossible anyway. No Muslim country can survive without the western technology that they use and abuse but they cannot even realise this let alone understand it.
If Islam wins, the human species is doomed to extinction. That in itself nullifies any qualms I have about how we deal with them.

Osama wants muslims to think, but not too much. He wants muslims to read, but not too much, he wants muslims to be smart, but not too smart. The reason that brutal regimes kill intellectuals(freethinkers) is because they need to keep the people stupid, or drunk, for control purposes. Smart people are trouble. They influence others, they challange the champions of the existing order. They are 'deviants' and like apostates, must be killed. The only 'smart' people in Islam are the muslims running the show...Imams, Mullahs, Ayatollahs, ect. Some of these people are not very smart either...the ones that are, are devious and murderous.
Islam is so intellectually weak that it requires stunting of the intellect to accept it. It requires slave status and a large number of robotic warriors to enforce its edicts. No one that learns to think will stay a muslim, and no one who can think will convert. People that can think, simply have to go, muslims and infidels alike...Allah knows best and he hates thinkers...

Bin Laden's screed highlights the importance of Muslim skeptics and reformers, no matter how hopeless their ideas are in light of the crushing burden of Islamic scripture. They deserve our praise and support. There are hundreds of millions of Muslims who have no idea what their religion is really all about and would be disgusted if their programming, denial, tu quoque and projection skills were not so well honed. It is all part of the same intellectual struggle. Once Muslims begin to open up to elightenment thought, Islam is doomed, and Islamic scholars know it. Muslims may not leave Islam in droves right away, though some clearly are. It will be the generation or two after, that is raised in a reformed environment, that will be then capable of discovering their religion themselves, judging it from a sane moral perspective, and rejecting it.

Exactly my point. But there are still many anti-jihadists, some amongst us here, that caution that we need to pull our punches lest we sink to their level.
I'm just waiting ever so anxiously to see how this is all going to play out. In 10 years we should have our answer.

Dear Captain I think you are from India. Do go through jihadwatch and you will get your answer as to what Hindus have done to deserve this. Also, in Sudan, muslims have massacred thousands and thousands of Christians, what those poor folk had done to deserve this. Open a history book and read about Persia, which is now the unholy mess called Iran, whose entire civilization was wiped out by early muslims before starting on India and other middle eastern and African countries. It is unbeleivable that this madness called islam is on a rampage for the past 1400 years.

Too bad we can not be assured that the Islamofanatics future actions could not be contained within the Arab world.
Mao Tse Tung did a good job of hamstringing the Chinese people. When they isolated themselves in their communist workers paradise, we did not have to compete with a billion chinese workers earning a $ a day. Importing their cheap goods without concern for duty, is destoying our manufacturing industry, debases the US working man's wage, and is destroying the dollar as a medium of exchange for the world economy.
If the Arab world would follow the edicts of the Islamofanatics, it would be assured that they would perpetuate a poorly educated society with little room for advancement. Their petro wealth would be squandered. Trappings of wealth that they would assemble would fail, as they could not properly mantain their assets and infastructure. A good example is Eygpt where graft is so indemic that unless you bribe somebody it takes a year to get your phone fixed. Allah help you if your sewer line breaks. In Saudi Arabia, most of any real work is done by imported workers, construction of their great cities was acheived by US companies like Parsons. Within a couple of generations, their system would disappear like pryamids in the sands.
Just like the Chinese Cultural Revolution, they would kill off or re-educate the the free thinkers and perpetuate a feudal agrarian society under the despotic rule of religious fanatics. That would assure that the arab world would continue to never acheive anything of merit.
Too bad they hold the oil card over our head, and can take action to harm our economy. Too bad that we need to be concerned that they would spread their fanatical beliefs and export terrorism and world wide jihad. Absent these concerns we would only need to stay to the side as they destroy and victimize their own race and countries. Too bad, that we are forced to act in our self interest to secure our oil supply that feeds our economic engine and to contain the threat that world wide jihad constitutes to our government and individual freedoms and existence.

I saw your blog and the video footage just confirms what I've said on this website, along with others such as yourself, that Islam and Muslims are totally barbaric and can never assimulate into the 21st century. It's beyond me to understand how a preson or presons can stand there and/or participate in a person/persons skull being busted open. Or watching their child get his head cut open. These Muslims make Ted Bundy, Jeffery Dahmer, and John Gacy look like model citizens. And these were some sick, maladjusted, sadistic indviduals.

If the "Iranian problem" does escalate into actual conflict we know what will happen as we have been told: there will be multiple bombings etc in all western countries aligned or not with the US.
What has me curious is whether Iran is placing itself wholly upon the jihadic suicide altar in the name of greater Islam. I wonder a little here as Shiites do not willingly sacrifice themselves foa s Sunni majority but it is possible.
If the US uses convsntional weapons on Iran say in a gulf war style multiple air attack scenario, they will attack Israel with Missiles and the US as above.
However will they be the first to use nuclear weapons on either the US or Israel, or will they wait until Osama explodes one of the many tactical NWs that they already have and almost certainly in New York and probably London?
Or will tney wait until the US uses one and use every available one that they have. As they supply their oil to North Korea and seem to be on very friendly terms with them, who is to say that they do not ALREADY have one or more courtesy of NK.
I have the impression that Iran is putting itself up as a sacrificial cow target for US NWs so that fullscale Armageddon can be unleashed upon Israel and the US. By this I mean pinpoint nuclear attacks followed immediately by biological or chemical ones. This combination of "total war" will almost certainly destroy Israel totally and perhaps even extremely damgae the US as an effective military power so that the remaining Muslim countries can then jump into an agressive antiwestern jihad mode both openly and 5th column and we could see a very quick decline of the west.
This may sound exaggerated but the combination of pinpoint nuclear explosions with no warning followed by chemical/biological weapons is no joke and a real extreme high damage scenario especially re casualties and morale.

"perpetuate a feudal agrarian economy"? Grimreaper, there are 59 islamic countries in the world and none, repeat, none produces enough food to feed even their own individual population. Farming is creative stuff. To create food for the masses requires a lot of thinking. Islam can destroy. Like they did with a lot of pyramids and the Bamiyan Buddhas are a recent example. Pakistan and Afghanistan, both torn from India by muslims, were once very fertile lands where there was aplenty. We see pics of Afghanistan now. What do they grow? Poppy.

The hopeless Ghadaffi apart we have never had such blatant rhetoric from a Muslim head of goverment before and I am not convinced that it is pure swordrattling.
As for Muslim cunning.....they seem streets ahead of most of our governments.

Don't be so modest. Of course, Osama reads your books. And so does his audience. Which is why they are the psychotic loons that they are. And when your book on Mohammed is done, they'll read that too. Even though it isn't in Arabic.
Your books are also the reasons that Islamic conquerors, from Caliph Abu Baqr right down to Caliph Mohammed Omar have been persecuting Infidels. I'm currently reading the book you edited, "The myth of Islamic tolerance", and all the "Do's & Don't's listed there are what they are working from.
No wonder popular reformers like Thomas Haidon, not to mention Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani, have such a tough time reforming the religion you so wickedly corrupted.

If I, as an atheist or Christian or Jew or Hindu, disagree that Mohammad was the final prophet, isn't that belittling him, and therefore worthy of a death sentence?
Convert to Islam, pay the jizya tax and live in submission, or die. That's the three choices offered to us.

No, I am not so optimistic as to think all is well and we have all the answers. I do however think most of the stuff we hear from Iran and OBL is bluster....I am slow to rise and I would hope our secret services and those in the know are slower to rise than I!
Who has most access to intelligence? Give our guys some credit. Why would they put it into the public domain, why should they share it.....? Our governments KNOW we are at war. They choose to distance themselves from stating such...to keep a lid on the facts but I think they are allowing people like us to draw our own conclusions.
This issue over Islam v's the rest of the world is not new, how we deal with it is the issue. We, the free thinkers..the upholders of right..the ones who represent good over evil have been here before....
When push comes to shove, it's bye bye to the sponsors of the death cult, Iran, Lybia, Egypt, Syria, oh and any other "martyr" countries who wish to add their names to the list of satanic ISLAMIST infamy.
