1938 Alert: "Indonesia to have major nuclear plant by 2015," from AFP, with thanks to all who sent this in:
Indonesia will have its first nuclear power plant on densely populated Java island by 2015, the country's energy minister has said."We have the blueprint. We will start the construction in six or seven years," Purnomo Yusgiantoro told AFP.
The power plant, to be built in East Java, will have the capacity of 1,000 megawatts in the first phase, with the cost estimated at $US8 billion ($10.35 billion), he said. The capacity will later be increased to 4,000 megawatts.
"We are open to any investors who are interested in developing this project," he said.

Nuclear power plants in the most volcanically-active region of the world. What could possibly go wrong? Maybe the Earth will get the job done for us.

It seems that current Iranian government has the intent of using technology to strengthen the jihad throughout the world. I could say we should not allow this, but who would support me in that conclusion?

When I had accumulated about 15,000 words for my Masters dissertation, I began to make lots of copies of my work and file the computer disks away in my office, home, safe deposit box, etc. to ensure that in the event of a fire, theft, or other disaster, my months of research and toil would be secure.
With the caliphate not yet restored and America threatening to bring Iran's nuclear programme to an abrupt end, Ahmadinejad is clearly thinking of protecting the Islamic bomb by disseminating the technology far and wide around the ummah for safekeeping.

Nuclear power plants heat water to make energy. Indonesia is lousy with active volcanos. I have an idea! Volcanic bombs are not easy to manage, however.
Every Muslim nation is going to have a nuclear bomb if present trends continue. European nations are worried about greenhouse gasses.

YoJimbo;
I enjoyed your posting of the video. I just wish that the Bush Administration would view this video. The "Milksop in Chief" failed in his mission in Iran because he gutted the military budget with cutbacks. There were no useable parts for repairs on the military vehicles, including the helos that were used in the failed rescue mission.
Iran assisting Indonesia with a nuclear program should open the eyes of the officials at the State Department. We'll see in the near future.

THE PROBLEM IS THE WAY THEY THINK:::::At first flush, the proposal was praised by all, but gradually, it lost steam and faded out from the minds of Arabs despite the fact that we possess the financial and creative ability to set up such a channel. So the West is not to blame if we have pulled out of the scene in favor of the Zionist lobby and concentrated our efforts, instead, in setting up music-and-dance channels. Therefore, it is imperative that we set up an English language Arab satellite channel. Sooner the better.

That might be one reason, but this is another. Ahmadinejad is hoping to get the Islamoterrorists in all Muslim countries to rally behind him because he wants to be the leader of the new jihad army that establishes a worldwide caliphate, with him as the Caliph, and is the trigger for the return of the 12th Imam.

The USA will let Indonesia get the nuclear power plant, and possibly the bomb.
As an Australian I would not be surprised if this happened. Indonesia to the USA (no matter who the pres is - Demo or Rep) is just one big 120 million person market for US goods.
When East Timor errupted in Jihad the USA abandoned Australia's efforts to free these Catholic infidels from Muslim rule. Why? We are supposed to be allies.
Whenever push has come to shove in the region over Indonesia v's Australia, the US sadly has favourd the bigger 'market' of the two. It goes back to the cold war.
The whole irony will be if Indonesia gets nukes. Back in the 40's/50's Australia desparately tried to get the USA and Britian to give us nuke technology - its why we allowed our country to be a nuclear test site. Both of these allies, after using us, shut our nuclear ambitions down (yet they allow Jihadi Pakistan to get nukes???)
After all with our resources + nukes, well we could tell the rest of the world (including the US) where to go. Britian and the US didn't want that.
Now we are one big sitting duck, with a Jihadi country on our door step. Our army is way to small to defend us, it always has been - which after being abandoned in WW2 by the US and Britian - (the US only helped us out of mutual nessessity in the end), is why Australia needed nukes.
On the bright side - if the Indonesians are dumb enough to put a station on their own crowded shit hole of an Island - well one well placed convential bomb is all the nuke power Australia will need.

Beagle-- you make a good point there: How about that geothermal energy?
Apparently, Indonesia already gets some electricity that way, and surely it would be cheaper and safer to keep pursuing that angle.
But I'm beginning to think the nuclear issue has become the mid-life crisis status symbol for third-world regimes at approximately "middle age" according to the human lifespan: North Korea, founded in '48, started in the late '80s/ early '90s; Indonesia's independence was recognized in '49, and Sudan in '56.
Granted, Iran's regime hasn't even achieved the age of 30, but... they've got issues, y'know, and Ahmadinejad is the embodiment thereof.

3rdtimelucky,

Don't be so sure about that, things are changing fast here in the USA because the people are no longer willing to sell ourselves out for some cheap goods. Also, before WWII America had never entered a war to help another country out. We have learned that lesson. We understand how valuable Australia is to us as an ally. I also know that your people are some of the most respected warrior's ever to fight along side of Americans. Do not despair. You are not forgotten.

The bombing at the Imam Abdullah Ali al-Hadi shrine, which caused no injuries, marks the second time in nearly three months that assailants have targeted a site sacred to Iraq's Shiite majority. It is likely to further heighten sectarian tensions, particularly in Baqouba, a mixed Sunni Arab-Shiite town that has recently seen an increase in violence.
The blasts occurred about 11 p.m. at the shrine, according to the Diyala provincial police Joint Coordination Center and Interior Ministry Lt. Col. Falah al-Mohammedawi.

Tradition says the Askariya shrine, which draws Shiite pilgrims from throughout the Islamic world, is near the place where the last of the 12 Shiite imams, Mohammed al-Mahdi, disappeared. Al-Mahdi, known as the "hidden imam," was the son and grandson of the two imams buried in the Askariya shrine.
Shiites believe he is still alive and will return to restore justice to humanity. An attack at such an important religious shrine would constitute a grave assault on Shiite Islam at a time of rising sectarian tensions in Iraq. The shrine contains the tombs of the 10th and 11th imams, Ali al-Hadi, who died in 868 A.D., and his son Hassan al-Askari, who died in 874 A.D. and was the father of the hidden imam.

Storemanager--
The History Channel is running its "Antichrist" block tonight. Thought you might be interested in catching that-- it's intriguing on several levels, both for the subject matter as advertised, and for what went unsaid:
The opening segment sets the stage with detailed discussions of how good and evil were seen in ancient Bablyon, and in Judaism, Christianity, and Hinduism, but not Islam. All of this stuff about religion and the Mideast and they didn't touch Islam with a 10-cubit pole-- not even an interview with a cleric.
At any rate, I watched until they started knocking the Crusades. That was enough dhimmitude to make me reach for the remote.

Is Allah and/or his prophet incinerating and washing away Muslims in Indonesia? Is it because of too much or too little throat-slitting of schoolgirls? Or are volcanoes and tsunamis outside his/their purview? Also, is he/they crushing Muslims in the earthquakes that seem to often ripple through Iran & Pakistan. What about the stampedes? Since he/they seem to be in control of every little thing, maybe they cause the stampedes, too. Inquiring minds want to know.

Another sign of how well things are going in Iraq, and another opportunity for Hugh to say "I told you so":
Iraqis deny US reports of army units clashing
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The U.S. military reported on Saturday a clash between Iraqi army units that killed one Iraqi soldier, raising questions over the new, U.S.-trained force's cohesion in the face of ethnic and sectarian rivalries.
...
U.S. and Iraqi commanders highlight recent recruitment from Sunni Arab areas where insurgents have been strong and say they are trying to ensure a sectarian and ethnic mix in the army. But some units remain dominated by particular groups.
One of these, dominated by Kurds with ties to "peshmerga" guerrillas who fought Saddam Hussein, was involved in fighting in Balad, a mainly Shi'ite Arab area, on Friday, police said.
By the U.S. account, this unit was attacked by insurgents in the small town of Dhuluiya on Friday, losing one dead and 12 wounded. Some of those injured were taken to hospital in Balad, about 10 miles away. But when comrades tried to remove the wounded again, a second Iraqi army unit barred their way.
...
Some warn the forces could divide along ethnic and sectarian lines if widespread violence escalates into all-out conflict.
Maliki, a Shi'ite Islamist, says he will ensure a state monopoly on armed force, partly by enrolling militiamen in the police and army. Other leaders have defended their right to run their own forces, however. And the loyalties of policemen and soldiers recruited from militias have been questioned.

Sorry, in the above posting only the first paragraph appears to be a quote from the article, but all the later paragraphs are from the article too. That's not me talking. It looks like the BLOCKQUOTE tag gets messed up if there are any blank lines in the blockquote. After the first blank line, all the text appears as regular text.
That's happened to me before leading to some "What the..." mutters after I posted, but now the problem seems clear, it's easily avoidable.
Also, has everyone figured out to highlight all of your text and do a CTRL-C to copy it to the clipboard, before clicking the "Post" button? That way if you time out, you just sign in and CTRL-V to paste it back in and you don't lose what you wrote.

All the media, throughout the world, are afraid to talk on anything that begins with I. They will not talk about it. (Look at what happened to von Gogh). And there were no terrorists to do it. Only the local muslims did it.

Anybody know where this round of proliferation originated? I thought I read some articles after Kaddafi turned over some of his nuclear stuff that it was out of China via North Korea and Pakistan. If so, China has essentially gotten a free pass for wiping out over 50 years of non-proliferation efforts. In any case, Chinese extensive holdings in US treasury notes would enable China to retaliate quite effectively against US economic sanctions. But you can't blame our political leadership. After all, how could they have known that letting a communist dictatorship buy large amounts of our US treasury notes might be a bad idea. The chinese economy is now "only" hardcore socialist, not communist, and while their approach to human rights is still communist, there are liberal theories that say economic reforms and growth neccesarily lead to democracy so we just have to wait out the next 10 to 20 years and hope they are right. Seriously, not with respect only to the war on terror, I increasingly find myself hoping that our political elites know a lot that I don't, cause with the general information available their policies look like idiocy. Again, returning to the China relationship. Basically we dismantle our industrial base and build factories in a communist dictatorship to build stuff and import it into the USA. China takes the money we pay them, rips off our technology, and then kicks our companies buts in other export markets using the technology we provided the with. They make more dollars and use it to buy better weapons from Russia so they can better threaten Taiwan and they also buy US treasuries so they can blackmail our economy, so that they're better able to block measures to fight nuclear proliferation to Iran in the UN security council that way they can be assured of plenty of oil from Iran and other US enemies to fuel the economic boom that our technology and our giving them most favored nation status got started. And I don't buy much into that if we didn't give them the technology someone else would have - no-one else would be dumb enough to open their markets to the extent US did (certainly not the EU)to China which provided China with the capital to get going. Sure I'm for open markets, but not open markets for communist dictatorships that undervalue their currency to wipe out competition. Works great if you a US CEO whose gonna retire in a few years before the long term effects kick in, and even after they kick in, you got your millions so who cares. If you're a recent US college grad, you can always get a job in Starbucks, if you beat out the mexican illegal alien. China shows you don't even have to be muslim to rip off stupid western dhimmis - anyone can do it.

tgusa - thanks. I hope you are right. Indonesia's Muslim eye off Australia with hungry eyes, and while our army is one of the best fighting units in the world - it is too small to protect us.
Only the National service/ having all households having a gun would do that - but the majority here are too naive to see why we need such things.
Hence Australia NEEDS the US to honour our alliance - as the time is comming. Indo and Australian soldiers were killing each other as early as the 1980's in secret border clashes. The bloke in Indonesia would remember this well.
Australia is the crown in the Jewel of the Pacific. Whoever dominates us - rules the Pacific. I would much rather the USA than China or Indonesia!
