Covassi, a convert to Islam, now says that he was forced by his superiors to frame the brother of the famous and notorious Tariq Ramadan, Hani. It is interesting that he believes that he is required to shift his loyalties now that he has become a Muslim. It is also interesting that Hani Ramadan really doesn't need any framing; he was quite clear about his loyalties and intentions when he wrote an article a few years ago in a French magazine, advocating stoning for adultery.

GENEVA — Along with banks and chocolates, this placid lakefront city has another claim to fame: It is full of spies.Claude Covassi, a broad-shouldered, gray-eyed martial arts expert, was one of them. He became an informant for Swiss intelligence in early 2004, converted to Islam and infiltrated fundamentalist circles here in his hometown. He followed the trail of holy warriors all the way to mosques in Syria where aspiring foreign "martyrs" are groomed for Iraq.
But in February, the secret agent went explosively public. He revealed his mission to its prime target, a Muslim scholar here who has been periodically accused of extremism, and gave newspaper interviews accusing his handlers of trying to frame the cleric. Since then, Covassi has unleashed everything from confidential documents to details of clandestine operations.
The former spy insists that he abandoned his masquerade because he found faith.
"It is not great speeches that convinced me but the force of prayer and understanding of the Koran," Covassi, 36, said in a recent interview by e-mail from his refuge in Egypt. "Islam transformed my existence."
But Swiss anti-terrorism officials reject his allegations and accuse him of a personal vendetta. It's unclear who was manipulating whom.

The intelligence oversight committee of the Swiss congress is investigating the case. But doubts persist, especially regarding Covassi's allegation that spymasters plotted to smear the controversial Islamic scholar Hani Ramadan by linking him to Iraq-bound militants. Ramadan's brother, Tariq, is an internationally known Islamic intellectual.

Well at least the brother of Hani, i.e. Tariq is not advocating stoning currently. On Nov 20, 2003 he declared (on TV in a talk with Sarkozy) that he is in favor of a moratorium on stoning in Europe.
Ain't that considerate?

The most surprising aspect of this story is that
there are so many Muslim immigrants in Switzerland.
I thought that it was practically impossible to
immigrate to Switzerland. Or are these people 'refugees'?

Switzerland harbours islamists that even the French won't talk to, such as Tarik Ramadan.
Switzerland does not belong to the EU, nor does it feature any politicians in the index pages of Bat Ye'or's "Eurabia".
So what's the Swiss excuse?
The problem can't be pinned down to a Eurabia conspiracy but is down to a 'fin de civilization' Western suicidal instinct.
And America is as much part of this as Europe.

Unfortunately, the security services of the Western world, in choosing to use undercover agents, will often have to choose those who would not arouse suspicion. And who might such people be? They would have to be chosen, as this one was chosen, from among the kind of people who do convert to Islam -- the psychically marginal, the people whose oddness, whose marginality on society, make them vulnerable to the siren-song of a Total Regulation of Life, and of course the whole business of the Collective, the Ummah, the "Brothers," which those longing for some prefabricaed, ready-made society, have waiting for them when they get their new Arab name, and all those special phrases to drop into their English or French or German conversation, alhamdulillah, and all the rest of it. There are elements of Huey, Dewey and Louie joining their secret boys' club -- no doubt about it, and if it were not so dangerous to Infidels, one might overlook the mental and moral damage to the converts themselves.
The problem is that such people, in "pretending to convert to Islam, might find that offer of a belief-system that offers a Total Regulation of Life (and isn't life just a bit too unstructured, these days?), a Complete Explanation of the Universe (and isn't life getting just a bit too complicated these days?)and a ready-made Ummah (and isn't life just a little too lonely these days, in those Durkeimian anomie-filled cities, where we wander lonely as clouds, and isn't it wonderful to have a society of fellow Muslims with whom to form that special bond?).
What should the security services do?
Well, they should find those who have so suffered from Islam, or whose families have done so. Think of Berbers who might be disaffected from Islam because of the Arab supremcaist ideology. Or Kurds. Or a Hindu who might have been driven out of Bangladesh, and who, properly schooled, might be able to pass as a Muslim. Think of Arabic-speaking Jews. Think of the pool of Christians from the Middle East -- Maronites, or Copts, or an Armenian from Haleb or Beirut, who suffered along with other Christians during the Civil War. A Christian from the Moluccas, whose village was attacked by Muslism. Find these people, train them, slowly. Give them the kind of training in Islam that the KGB used to provide for spies going to the West -- you know, with those mock-American cities, and every detail of the New York Subway system, not to mention what Yogi Berra or Jimmy Durante said, by way of preparation.
Understand that it is not enoughy to call yourself a Muslim. You have to have that entire set of allusions to the life of Muhammad, to the history of Islamic battles, that any Muslim would know. Are the Americans up to this? Do they possess a cadre of teachers? Have they called in the French counter-intelligence? Or the Israelis? Or the Indians?
Lots of arms, those Americans. Hundreds of billions of dollars worth. But most of it irrelevant to Da'wa, demographic conquest, the money weapon, and terrorist units, outside any larger organization, all over the Western world.
Arms, arms.
But still, when compared with those to whom deception comes naturally, that is simply a matter of habit, that is imbibed with a Muslim mother's milk in the Middle East, the roughest toughest of Rangers or of Navy Seals are, compared to someoone like Hani Ramadan, or his much more sinister and dangerous brother Tariq Ramadan, mere Babes in Arms.

An American has illegally plucked a peice of wood from the TAJ door and got it carbaon Dated and found that that TAJ is a couple of Century's old than it is belived..
c) Moreover the European Travellors befor the time of Shaha Jahan has attested in their Travel Journals the existence of a grand palace in AGRA which they have visited.
d) Humayaun's daughter (Shah Jahan is Humayun's Grandson) mentions and acknoledges the beauty of Taj mahal.if Taj Mahal is built by SHah Jahan, how does it finds a mention by Shah Jahan's grand aunt???????????

The Swiss are financially shrewd. They would never take a three-dollar bill. But they seem to be taking seriously this guy's tale. And as far as I am concerned, he is a good deal less credible than the average three-dollar bill.

How can it be stated that one is an islamic intellectual, when the premise of their "religion" states that the word of the koran is immutable.....and that said koran says the world is flat, the sun sets in a mud puddle..... it doesn't make sense. Now if they didn't believe those two examples, wouldn't that make them an apostate of sorts? If they can't get over what the koran lies about, how can they have intellect?

If it were not for muslim immigration (mostly turkish), Swiss population would be declining. Non-Muslim families prefer to have dogs then children.

When the secret service agencies of the US, for example, divest themselves (or when some of their officials divest themselves) of their antiSemitism which surfaces as an anti-Israeli bias, they will be able to recruit more good and knowledgeable spies.It is this kind of prejudice, xenophobia, and good ole boy network that Washington is famous for which allowed WASPy Aldrich Ames to operate as a double agent for twelve years with glaring signs that he was getting a lot of extra money from somewhere and tarred and imprisoned Jew Jonathan Pollard without sufficent evidence or a fair trail.

While antisemitism is one of those pathological mental conditioins that does affect a certain percentage of the population (10% or so in this country, more in such a place as Austria), I hardly think that would explain the failure of American security services to make use of Berbers, Kurds, and Copts, or for that matter Hindus or others, including ex-Muslims, who might have personal reasons for wishing to inform, expose, and alert (think of Mohammed Rasoel's book published in Holland back in 1990). Antisemitism is, for obvious reasons, a problem when and if policy is being made, because its hold on those who exhibit its symptoms, expressive as it is of a deeper disturbance, is considerable, and can, as it could in the 1930s, lead people to overlook what actually threatens them, if taking it fully into account would, inadvertently, "help Jews." Extraordinary, but just look at England, circa 1938, and not only at Moseley or the Cliveden Set. And look at the way that Ambassador Joseph Kennedy (himself both an antisemite and an appeaser of the Nazis) directed those in Hollywood to make anti-Nazi movies that never brought up the persecution of the Jews, or how intent Roosevelt was on not letting the war be depicted as a war "for the Jews."
There are such people, of course, whose sinister views make sense only through one explanation. Buchanan, Novak, Walt-Mearsheimer all come to mind. But they are not the rule. They are the exception.

Or the fellow is going deeper under cover and this is the modus operandi ("sheepdipping") to ingratiate himself with the Egyptian "clerics", etc. More devout than the average devout Muslim.
One hopes...
(As I have always hoped that Cat "Abu Pettyfog" Stevens is a cunning, sleeper double agent.)

Roosevelt lost all my respect when I read Jan Karski's (the Polish courier who in vain was trying to inform the world about the Holocaust of Jews in German-occupied Poland) account of his meeting with the President. Roosevelt interrupted Karski's testimonies about Jewish extermination with a ..very "sensitive" question about the condition of ...horses in the General Government (southern part of Poland ruled by Hans Frank).
