Remember when the Republicans burned car tires and blocked roads over Saturday Night Live's devastating takes on Nixon and Ford? Remember when Don Rickles was beheaded by an angry Las Vegas mob? "Shiite Muslims block roads over comedy," from AP, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:
BEIRUT, Lebanon - Hundreds of Shiite Muslims enraged by a TV comedy that mocked the leader of Hezbollah took to the streets of southern Beirut on Thursday night, burning car tires and blocking roads - including the highway to Lebanon's international airport, police and witneses said. The trouble began shortly after a TV show on Lebanese Broadcasting Corp. - a privately-owned Christian channel - in which an actor spoofed Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, wearing the Hezbollah leader's trademark black turban and sported a similar beard and spectacles.

Gaza: Gunmen assassinate Fatah security officer
Palestinian sources said a Fatah officer in the preventive security services who was injured earlier when gunmen opened fire at him as he was driving his car through central Gaza has died of his wounds.
In addition, five security officers loyal to Fatah were injured in Khan Younis after being fired upon by gunmen. (Ali Waked)

Very very OFF track
this is regarding the Kashmir attack on a bus:
This kind of thing will keep on happening and we all know why don't we ?
BECAUSE THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE ARE ASLEEP.
I have copied & pasted below a posting from an earlier story http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/011563.php#comments on a similar attack.
"According to hinduhumanrights,
the Vice-Chairperson of the Conservative Party, Sayeeda Warsi, says that terrorists in Kashmir are not terrorists but 'freedom fighters'.
---------------------
the BBC’s “Politics Show” on the Sunday that ended that tragic week of 7/7, Warsi made the following comments:
“We have a community in Britain, a Pakistani and Kashmiri community, who holds a very, very strong view about Kashmir and the scope of freedom-fighting in Kashmir …..It would concern me if ... the definition of terrorism was to cover maybe (the) legitimate freedom-fight in Kashmir.''

I think we should ask the conservatives some serious questions on a regular basis about comments made by Party Vice Chairman, Mrs Sayeeda Warsi
We can e mail them to:
https://www.conservatives.com/tile.do?def=contact.us.page
Correspondence
Conservative Campaign Headquarters

London
SW1H 0DL
I do believe the Conservatives are this countries last hope, if enough people in the UK of Indian descent either Hindu/Sikh/Buddhist/Christian/Jew/Parsi knew of Mrs Sayeeda Warsi
views then she could be given the push.
This is classic islamic infiltration, it matters not which party all that matters is the broader islamic agenda.
If you want to know what UK MPs get up to then visit:
http://www.theyworkforyou.com
However back to mrs warsi
we should do some research on her and inform as many UK Indian orgs as possible and the Indian press in India
another link http://www.conservatives.com/tile.do?def=news.story.page&obj_id=125303
Note some of the non moslem Indian names:
Ranbir Suri JP
Mrs Sandy Verma
Baroness Flather
what would they make of her opinions.
I think every one on this site should send the Conservatives an e mail.

Ah yes, now it's all becoming clear to me. This case of Lebanese post-comedy malaise has a parallel here in Toronto: blocked roads complete with burning rubber occur every Friday night near Pearson International Airport after the airing of CBC-TVs comedy show Royal Canadian Air Farce. And I always thought they were just traffic jams.

"Passers by", surely? Passers by include, according to Rolf Harris, who sadly needs a younger man to blow his didgeridoo, the fascinating witches who put the scintillating stitches in the britches of the boys who put the powder on the noses on the faces of the ladies of the harem of the court of King Caractacus.

Golynstein..read...understand.......Today marks the 65th anniversary of the Farhud. Arabic for “violent dispossession,“ this is the word used to describe the infamous pogrom of June 1, 1941, against the Jews of Baghdad. In its wake, the Farhud left some 200 dead, 2000 injured, and 900 Jewish homes destroyed. It was the beginning of the end of the Jewish community of Iraq, a community that had existed for twenty-six centuries, preceded Islam by a thousand years, and once numbered over 125,000 souls.
Today, not a single Jew is left in Iraq. Arab apologists trace the dismantling of the Jewish communities of the Arab world (Mizrachim) and of North Africa (Sephardim) to anti-Jewish sentiment growing out of the creation of Israel. Implicit in this is the imposition of collective responsibility, as if the Jews of the Arab world and North Africa were directly responsible for whatever Israeli Jews did or did not do.
Although the Arab and Muslim communities in America and the West publicly cry foul when the terrorist attacks of September 11 are linked to them or their religion, they do not hesitate to ascribe collective responsibility to Jews. For instance, writing in the interfaith newsletter in Contra Costa County, California, Dr. Amir Araim, the Imam of Concord, California, and an Iraqi who once represented Saddam Hussein’s regime to the United Nations, links the dismantling of the Jewish community of Iraq directly to the controversial events at Deir Yassin, the Arab village that was captured by Israel during the Arab-Israeli war of 1948 and where pro-Arab propagandists have long claimed a “massacre” took place

Say, you're from Israel, are you of the Jewish heritage, or Islamic? Not that it matters, just curious. Because we know that Israel has many Arab Muslims living as citizens within Israel, even serving in the Knesset as MP's.
Not too many Jews serving in (Trans-) Jordan's government though, or Egypt's, or Iraq's.

I totally understand your point. But we have also learned in Israel that to archieve social progress and peace, sometimes forgetting past crimes and offenses is a necesary thing. I agree, some aspects of islam may seem barbaric and retrograde for our times; but the Mishnah, the Talmud, the Midrash also teaches us to stone kids that disrespect their parents. Are we going to do so? No.
My point is, SOME muslims may be behaving as if they lived in caliphate times, but is it not our duty to impulse social and political change, instead of marginalizing them? It speaks more of us as a rational, civilized society to help this people detonate the change for which we may congratulate ourselves in some 20 or 30 years.
That's exactly why I support the retreat from Gaza, these settlements went from being an expression of Zionist enthusiasm to an existential hazard and a moral burden for our country.
And far-right extremism may become your own burden for change too.

As you can now see, we are not so righteous ourselves as jews. Sometimes we shamelessly abuse our dominant position to trample in other people's liberties and therefore create more hate. Is a vicious circle, and only working together we can put an end to it.

Golynstein,
Would the Ultraorthodox (I'm assunming you mean Jewish) throw stones at me becasue they simply dont like the way I look, dress, talk etc. OR because God has told them to do so in the Torah, Talmud etc.?
This is one of the biggest differences between every other vastly followed religion (Christianity, Judaism, Budhism Hindus) in the world and that of Islam.
No one here is saying (especially Robert Spencer) that all Muslims are bad people. The distinction is between Muslim and Islam. And belive it or not, Muslim do stone people, cut there necks or slay the unbelivers whereever you find find them becasue Allah (The Quran) has instructed them to do so.
You cant equate xenophobic Whackos who happen to be very religious and throw stones at me to people who throw stones at me for being an Infidel who have been instructed to hate me by their Prophet, Holy book and God.
Guess what you can go to South Central Los Angeles and have stones thrown at you by black Christians in those nerighborhhod just because your white. But they arent doing it because their Priest or Jesus told them to do so...

I no longer believe in Palestine. I no longer believe in a two state "solution". I no longer believe in concessions to Muslims until they prove themselves worthy partners in the world.
They must eject their Islamic hatred to avoid all out war -- but Muslims are doing the exact opposite. They are wallowing in their hatred as never before. They are nurturing it, and working on ways to strengthen and spread their hatred... If history is any guide it will require massive violence to dissuade them from their path.
Delusions and daydreams get you nowhere. 9/11 proved that to me. I'd hate to see Israel abandon a single additional inch of territory to Islam. The crocodile will only want more, and hate you all the harder for not giving him what he wants.

at June 1, 2006 7:52 PM
Golynstein, you are so nice and polite and respectful, I'm ashamed to say it, but I will be too.
You say that "[these 'settlements' are] a moral burden for our country" and "Sometimes we shamelessly abuse our dominant position to trample in other people's liberties and therefore create more hate".
To avoid haggling over Israel's situation, which to put it mildly, I disagree with your position, how about all those other nations where jihadists are acting with the same violence and intolerance? Is India a moral burden for trampling on other people's liberties? And Indonesia, Somalia, Thailand, Sudan, China (Xinjiang province), Russia (Chechnya province), and of course the Great Satan the U.S., are they all creating more hate? Is every religion (Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Confuscism, Buddhism, Zoroastrionism) all ganging up on poor peaceful "smite at their necks" Islam?
Just take a deep breath, and consider the possibility that "we" are not the cause of every action in the world. Sometimes people (e.g. Muslims) are responsible for their own actions. The belief that the West is responsible for everything that occurs in the world is just another twisted version of cultural superiority.

I can assure you all, specially storagemanager, avatar, tgusa, FIVEOFNINE and IrishEi. I have visited several islamic states such as Iran (where my aunt peacefully lives), Syria and Egypt. And trust me, not a long time ago instead of burning american flags, those people were dreaming your very same way of life, they ENVIED America for all that it was and better of all; they had an incredibly good image of your country.
Can anyone tell me what happened? Aren't you tired of living in distrust and fear, as we are since 1948? For every Bashar, Mubarak or Hussein we keep in power for the sake of "stability", an Ahmadinejad or Nasrallah pops out. It is time for America and Israel to face the past mistakes, but with a non-belicist approach (which I believe is possible) and firmly lead the Islamic world to tolerance and peace.
We in Israel will be forever grateful to America for all the help we have received. We firmly believe we would not even exist now if it wasn't for you. So, wouldn't it be good to have the same sensation of gratefulness and appreciation from say, the Iraki people? It is not too late yet.

I have a close Arab-Muslim friend met through business. I am blunt on issues with him, and he is also blunt. I said to him recently: "***, the truth is that when Arabs speak of peace with Israel they really mean the annihilation of Israel. The problem here is Dar-Al-Islam."
He said, "You are absolutely right."
I said, "Israel has so much to offer the region. Look at Tel Aviv. That city, nearly 100 years old now, was built on sand dunes."
He said: "It would probably still be sand dunes."
The reform must come from Islam. They need a Martin Luther to break the hold of the clerics and Sharia law. Otherwise, I see nuclear war in the region in the next half-century...

Specialguest, I liked your past comment. But I think that implying that Islam is evil from the very roots and therefore blaming everything on them is the easy way out. It is true, Islam is NOT a religion of peace as many people preach, but was cristianity itself a doctrine of peace 400 years ago? Hardly so.
This people are simply behaving and living like christians were centuries ago, and I believe they CAN evolve into something better (say civilized) as christianity has for the past ages.

People like Golynstein live in a dreamworld. The truth is that there is no real freedom of speech in the Arab Mid East because of the clerics. Arabs in the region, who see the madness, are silent because they fear these people. The Arab people, who are generally so intelligent, are being destroyed by the vise-grip hold of clerics and politicans that pander to them.
I doubt we will see reform by reason. Only a disaster or miracle will bring everyone to their senses. The mind is a bully after all.

The only "theological, intellectual [or] moral authority" necessary to criticize Islam -- a creed suffused with the monstrosities of a mass-murdering, child-molesting, thieving serial rapist -- is basic humanity.

Let us also not forget that 400 years ago those violent barbaric Christian unicorns were running around with iron cannons, muskets, swords, and sailing ships. Not quite as dangerous as jihadis with cell-phone activated Semtex bombs, Kalashnikovs, jetliners, and, hmm maybe...nuclear weapons.
Oh yeah, and a suicidal disregard for their own lives.
...and a demonstrated preference for avoiding military forces and going after unarmed civilians.
...and seeking to impose a system of life that would have the entire species come to resemble one giant termite colony.
Other than those things, the modern mohammedans...
Sorry, nope. Still nothing alike.

You bet.
I do not believe man is a rational animal. I think 1/1000 are rational (I'm trying to get there). We use our minds in the same way that the cave-man used a club, to simply get what we want, and we believe what we desire to believe because it suits us. There is no objectivity-eveything is subjective, and colured by our desires. Ahmadinejad is a perfect exampe of that. In a world of true reason, Ahmadinejad would be in a straght-jacket. But he's the president of a country, and he has millions of people who agree with him.
We need two things as a species: 1) we need 200/1000 who use reason and 2) Somebody has got to find the "goodness gene"-otherwise forget-it.
I think I'll go to sleep too...

Does anyone remember when Albert Brooks was "Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World" last year at the cinema?? (In a film so short-lived at theatres it was labeled, no less, a cinematic "bomb").
The last I heard Mr. Brooks was still looking.
(And undoubtedly he will be looking for a VERY LONG TIME).
For those looking for comedy in the Muslim World, Hizbollah is about the best they can come up with (a regular Three Stooges act, I tell ya').

"an existential hazard and a moral burden for our country."
-- from a posting above by someone who describes himself as an Israeli
Spare us the holier-than-thou people all over the Infidel world, and especially those in Israel who worry about an "existential hazard and a moral burden for our country." Were I an Israeli, I would concentrate on stayiing alive, and not having to spend every waking hour worrying about. So invasion routes, strategic depth, control of the Judean heights, ability to muster a citizen-army in a day, ability to withstand internal attacks, ratio of the length of border to land area, and so on would concern me. I would not worry, had I bothered to investigate the history of the legal, historic, and moral claims of Israel, as compared to the claims of the Arabs and the local shock troops of the Lesser Jihad (carefully repackaged for outside consumption since 1967, with the invention of the "Palestinian people," as a conflict of two nationalisms) about any "moral burden" or "existential hazard."
One more thing. There are a thousand websites where Israelis of a Meretz mentality can tell us all how they are busy "saving Israel's soul." The rest of us are more interested in saving Israel, and the rest of the Infidel world, from Jihads small and big. So if that theme is going to be harped upon, it will not be harped upon here.

"to each one his G-d and to each one his beliefs, I'm no one with the theological, intellectual nor moral authority to convicingly contradict muslim doctrine."
-- from the same poster above
Really? To each his belief-system, no matter how that belief-system may have had, over 1350 years, quite disturbing effects on the Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians, Hindus, Buddhists and all other Infidels whose lands were conquered, and who were subsequently subjugated, some to be killed, some to be immediately converted, some to endure the status of humiliation, degradation, and physical insecurity that naturallly led many to convert more slowly to Islam, in order to escape that fate? That's it? To each his own?
Count me out.

Golynstein suffers from transferring his hopes for peace onto others who clearly have no such hopes. Wishing them to think like you doesn't make them do so. You can't negotiate with someone who doesn't want to resolve the issues in good faith.

Golynstein, can you make a clear distinction between religions? or do you think they are all the same. that is what l get from so called liberate people. they equate religion as passe, and lumped all into one. either too lazy to learn the difference and or too pc to make a judgement. liberals want all to be equal cant put one over the other.
you know l talked to my brother, he is building his house anyhow one of the builders is a Syrian Christian, who is all for Bush, he hates the islamaist muslims. wants them all dead. but he also blames Israel for all other things. stupid man, cant see that its islam who is his enemy. but in the middle east its sad to see so much hate of Jews in general.

John bolton on fox news with Neil Cavuto........Bolton: That’s why he says no option is taken off the table. But it’s also why the president has reached out to [Russian] President Putin and other leaders in the past couple of days to say, "We’re making a significant step here” – that will be criticized by many of the president’s staunchest supporters here at home, but he’s taking this step to show strength and American leadership. He’s doing it to say "We gave Iran this last chance to show they are serious when they say ‘We don’t want nuclear weapons.’” This is "put up or shut up” time for Iran.
Cavuto then said he feels Iran is flouting our demands – that Iran thinks the U.S. is bogged down with other military actions around the world and it can never really get tough.
Bolton responded that the president knows what he means when he said he isn’t taking any options off the table. "And I come back to the point that he has said in public and private: ‘It’s unacceptable for Iran to have nuclear weapons.’ He is a man of his word.”
(My take on this 1) Bolton is letting us know we are alone..2)The War is gona happen...no bones about it...Hope I am wrong about the alone part...but the war I am sure of...Mahmoud wants Chaos.

Then again how can one expect joy and laughter to come from a culture of wearing black, obssession with death, violence as a glory to a god, hatred as compassion, terrorism as being merciful?
Such are the extream and confussed views of the Muslim mind. So rioting over a tv show is a rational thing to do in such a tangled mind.

But I think that implying that Islam is evil from the very roots...
Evil? I think it is, but that's my subjective opinion. But I don't claim (and I don't remember Robert claiming) that Islam is evil; but it is violent. And that is objectively true, based on the writings of the Qur'an and the hadiths. And those are the very roots of Islam, it is not some hijacked version of it.
... and therefore blaming everything on them is the easy way out.
I also didn't blame everything on them, I just said that they are responsible for their own actions. We infidels are not responsible for their actions. We didn't make them do it, their holy book instructed them on what to do, and to whom to do it.
...was cristianity itself a doctrine of peace 400 years ago?
Yes, it was, and is. The doctrines of Christianity were peaceful 2000 years ago, 1000 years ago, 400 years ago, and today. Which is not to say that no Christian has ever done something wrong, but it was not the Bible that told them to do it. I am an atheist, but even I can recognize the philosophy of peace in the New Testament.
If you're referring to the Crusades, which were a defensive action after Muslims invaded Europe, you might want to read Robert's book.
And now, goodnight Golynstein, wherever and whomever you are.

Golynstein I am afraid is typical of Jewish liberalism. Even faced with his own imminent destruction at the hands of Mohammedans he will try and empathize with an implacable enemy to avoid the fighting necessary for survival. The classic descriptor of a liberal is someone who will not take their own side in a fight. It is a common mind set especially in the Tel Aviv area.
It is sad that the fighting spirit which has kept Israel alive for the last 50 years has metamorphosed into the warped moral equivalence which we see displayed by Golynstein and his many clones.
I shouldn’t be so glib though, the same problem afflicts the majority of the West (USA & Europe) as well. It is the liberal mindset which fans the flames of the Jihad as it consumes the west.
Golynstein you are a disgrace to the people who sacrificed themselves to give you the freedoms you so willingly wish to throw away.

Point of Order: The Nazi's were National Socialists. The Nazi's killed lots of people, including Jews. Nazi Germany was a Socialist State. Soviet Russia was a Socialist State. Germany invaded Poland to invade Russia. One Socialist State invades another Socialist State. One Left-Wing State invades another Left-Wing State. The Nazi's were NOT Right-Wing. They were NOT Christian. I am tired of the left asserting that the Nazi's were Right-Wing. Your appeal to the canard 'Right-Wing Extremists' is a little dated.

henry,
I don't think dualism is a necessary ingredient of Gnosticism. At any rate, when you poke beneath the seemingly monolithic monotheism of Islam, you find a tension between Allah and Satan (same tension you find in all monotheisms, only with Islam it's a much more intense tension because of their monomaniacal monotheism). From another angle, we see the perennial tendency toward dualism which all religions harbor to one degree or another assert itself in Islam in the Dar-al-Islam/Dar-al-Harb duality and the Muslim/Infidel duality (both of which are predicated on the struggle between Allah and Satan).

Nazism and Communism were both totalitarian systems, but to describe both as left wing is plain silly. One idealised egalitarian collectivism while the other, in conscious opposition to the other ideology, believed in the survival of the fittest (both individual and race), militarism, nationalism and the cult of the leader. Any residual collectivist socialist tendencies within the rather inchoate set of beliefs that constituted early Nazism, were eliminated with Roehm's brownshirts in the night of the long knives.Social democrats went into the concentration camps even before the Jews and Gypsies: Hitler went out of his way to work well with big business. Anti-semitism proved a useful way of diverting the hostility of the small businessmen, lower grade professionals, clerical types and skilled workmen who constituted the party backbone away from the large scale industrialists. Schact's policies of public works and re-armament leading to reduced unemployment were seen adequate compensation to the broad mass of workers for their loss of trade union rights. If nothing else Nazism was a cult of extreme and aggressive nationalism (with added racism) - something generally regarded as a right wing characteristic.

wallyUK l hate to burst your bubble, but Hitler and the Nazis were socialist, hence lefties. you have to look at their government controls on the economy, everyone should have volkswagen, littleman's car, that is socialism logic. socialism controls the economy, controls much of life, that is socialism. l can go on, one last is that what ever you think of Hitler and his Nazis, they were monsters as much as Islam. both controled people's daily lives, genocideal, no regard for life and liberty, in my book both evil and should be destroyed. Democracy although not perfect is the antidote.

Golynstein,
I see you have done some backpedalling since making this bigoted and indeed racist comment about the posters at this site.
My recommendation is that you actually spend some time reading the articles and comments posted at this site, before forming a judgement.
Believe it or not, many Muslims, and certainly most of those living in the regions surrounding you, believe in the validity of the following hadith, which is a favourite of the Palestinian media, and which is enshrined in the Hamas Constitution (and yes, it's still there):
Sahih Muslim, Book 041, Number 6985.
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: The last hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: Muslim, or the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him; but the tree Gharqad would not say, for it is the tree of the Jews.
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 52, Number 177.
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle said, "The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. "O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him."

Yojimbo-
Thanks for the Mauriac link.
His use of the word "Gnosticism" is only going to confuse the general public should he try to spread it, since most who are familiar with the word are coming from a Nag Hammadi "Gnostic Gospels" understanding, not militant Manicheism or heretical proto-Protestantisms (the unsuccessful, nihilistically murderous ones).
I wish he had just picked a less-loaded word than "Gnostic" (substituting a phrase, like "violent theocratic tyranny" is not as pithy, but is more accurate, while "Manicheists" is probably the best synonym for what he implies... dualistic, anti-this-life absolutists who can turn mindlessly deadly) but his prescription for hitting at the heads of this Islamic hydra are what any military thinker in history would have recommended for saving his culture and guaranteeing that his people survive the enemy's murderous, dogmatic lunacy.
I have also called warriors of intolerant, militant Islam the modern day followers of a bloodthirtsy Deity, like Moloch or Baal or heart-ripping Quetzecoatl, and in need to being sent to their "God" swiftly and efficiently and implacably.
They won't stop until they are stopped.
First, as Mauriac does insist, you need to cease with the pretense that their warlord "prophet" was "perfect" or that the Koran is "noble".
The Koran is confused, at best.
With its "Compassionate Allah" who then hates everyone to death who will not bow to his vicious will. And who instructs his servants, through the terrorist Mohammad, to kill anyone who won't "submit" to such a dismal dogma.
The sooner Muslims admit the flaws in Mohammad and revise the call to terrorsim out of the Koran, they safer THEY will be.
It's up to them.
We can only keep killing off their cutting edge true believers until the mainstream reforms.
Until then, cauterize the stumps, as Jason in the hydra story understood
I hope Mr. Mauriac has dinner at the White House soon.
(A jihadist hi-jacked plane is more likely to end up in the Executive Mansion's dining room, I know, but one can dream...)
Maybe "Hi-Tech Jivaros" instead of "Gnostics"?

Golynstein,
"Seriously, how long before some of you maniatic bigots climb a tower and start shooting non-white passerbys?"
No Christians let alone "white" Christians (let alone white anybody) have taken it upon themselves (outside the context of our wars on terror, of course) to sniper any Muslims in the name of anything: but two fellows inspired by Islam did take it upon themselves to sniper innocent people to death and plotted much more destruction of lives and property: see the thread on the Beltway snipers. Even years after the Beltway snipers, no American Muslims have been attacked in reprisal. If the USA, or England, or Spain, or Holland, or even Russia, behaved even 1/100 like a typical Muslim country, we would have already seen, long ago, riots, lynchings, arsons, and widespread violence and killings of the people whose culture has committed so many barbaric outrages against them.
You need to re-orient your head; but first you must take it out of your rectum.

I have a tape, recorded off NPR from a 1992 Washington Press Club speech he gave, -only the second half, sadly , since I wasn't expecting such a good guest at that usually dusty forum, and I scrambled to find a blank cassette, after laughing so hard at the first half of his speech that I didn't think of taping it- and his political insights about the first Iraq War, the future behavior of Bill Clinton, and the reality of our schizoid globe in general were and are priceless, [6-]pointed and timeless.
I'd take him as Secretary of State over Congoleum Rice (to borrow a name from another comic's repertoire) any day, month or year. A wise guy, in the best sense.
Rickles could be Secretary of Offense.
(A new post, created just for him.)
Jackie, call me!
(...through this site, of course...)
I've got the perfect material for your next Gaza engagement.
Sample:
Two suicide bombers walk into a bar... and the bartender looks up and says: HEY, what the hell are you 2 doing in here?... [PAUSE] You guys don't drink!? [LOUD Rim shot!] -etc., etc.

Golynstein,
You said you were new to JWDW, well I presume that you have not read a post from "Naseem."
I hope he/she shows up real soon.

Golynstein,
I think you failed to make an important distinction: While those negative writings are in the Torah, etc. Judaism as a whole has developed far beyond this.
There are verses in the Torah that commanded the killing of all Hittites. But when the Prophet Samuel confronted David about the murder of Uriah the Hittite, the king did not justify himself by saying that he simply was obeying Torah by killing Uriah. Istead, he repented of his crime.
Thus, from the very beginning, Judaism saw these commands as poetic symbolism about "killing" the unjust practices symbolized by these idolaters, not as a license for genocide.
Another example is modern. When a deluded psychopath like Baruch Goldstein committed mass murder, the whole of Israel was outraged. When psychopaths like Bin-Laden, Al-Zachawi, or Shamil Basayev commit mass murders they become heroes to millions of Muslims. There is no moral equivalence.

"golynstein" I have never seen such a name. Moreover, Jews with a name ending in -stein- are seldom Sefardim. And if your grandparents came from Russia, it's not likely that they are Sefardim, although it's possible, such as the Sefardic Jews who were allowed to reside in Moscow and belong to the Merchants' guild in Tsarist times. In short, a Sefardic Jew from Russia is rare [Georgian, Daghestani-Azerbaijani, and Bukhari Jews are not actually Sefardim].
Anyhow, let's take you at face value. Kadima is a party of crooks to an unprecedented extent in Israeli politics. And Olmert has a very poor reputation as a slimy crook among informed, intelligent people. The only people whom I know of who actually voted Kadima were uneducated people, in fact, older women who saw Sharon as the man on a white horse. They transferred their loyalty to man-on-the-white-horse Sharon to Olmert, because-that's-what-Sharon-would-have-wanted. Do you know that the man-on-the-white-horse notion is authoritarian if not fascist? You sound like a fascist full of "peace talk."
Maybe you get your information from the press and TV here which are an insult to the intelligence [not radio which has some intelligent programs]. The leading papers [yedi`ot, ma`ariv, and ha'aretz] have trouble selling the papers, so they give them away. Fill up on gas and get a free copy of idiot. Idiot has some fairly good non-political features [economics and business, health tips] which may help persuade people to take the paper. But I don't want paper cluttering my home.
Sharon's uprooting of Jews from Gaza was a crime. It was inexcusable. It was an infringement of the human and national rights of Jews. I don't know who you are or if you are really in touch with what goes on in Israel. But since Sharon's monstruous retreat from Gaza was executed, the terrorists have been shooting more rockets than ever before over the 1949 armistice line fence at Jewish towns and kibbutzim and moshavim. Moreover, the terrorists can now shoot much closer to Ashqelon which they could not do before retreat. Sderot is a town that has been often hit by rockets before and since Sharon's retreat. But more now. Just yesterday for example. So Sharon's retreat has made Israelis less safe, it has infringed on Jews' human and national rights, encouraged Arab terrorists against Israel and Muslim terrorists operating elsewhere in the world. It has brought residential and industrial and agricultural areas into rocket range that were not in range before. It also eliminated the jobs of a few thousand Arabs living near Gush Qatif who worked in the hothouses, etc. Gush Qatif was an economic asset to Israel which Sharon destroyed.
Paolo points out that the most blatantly fanatic Muslim Arabs [not smoothies like abu mazen] are now fighting with Fatah [also murderers] in Gaza and making the cause look ridiculous. But none of this was worth the infringement and endangering of Jewish rights throughout the world, or the harm that it did to whole families and to individuals, including a friend of our family. Certainly the retreat has not brought peace any closer. If you "golynstein" are what you say, then wake up. Don't believe the lies of the media. Many of the Jews in Gaza were very beautiful people. Sharon committed a crime and endangered not only Israel, but people all over who were threatened by jihadi terrorists.
The good news is that Gen. Giora Eiland [not my favorite] stated frankly that any further retreat would harm Israel's security.
