Captured Zarqawi Aide Spilled the Beans

How they got Zarqawi. From The Blotter of ABC News, with thanks to Mackie:

An Iraqi customs agent secretly working with Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's terror cell spilled the beans on the group after he was arrested, Jordanian officials tell ABC News.

Ziad Khalaf Raja al-Karbouly was arrested by Jordanian intelligence forces last spring.

Officials say Karbouly confessed to his role in the terror cell and provided crucial information on the names of Zarqawi commanders and locations of their safe houses.

Karbouly also admitted to his role in the kidnappings of two Moroccan embassy employees, four Iraqi National Guards and an Iraqi finance ministry official.

In a videotaped confession, Karbouly said he acted on direct orders from Zarqawi.

Officials say he will not be eligible for any of the $25 million reward money.

I think they should have announced that "someone from within" Al Qaeda in Iraq was cooperating. Let them start mistrusting each other. The "Palestinians" are great at lynching "collaborators" on a whim.

We need to get nastier, trickier. We need to encourage whatever fissures exist between jihadi groups and within jihadi groups. We need to start putting some thought into this. Everything we do should be done with the thought, how can we use this to help stop the jihad?

Hmmm....sure, why not? Please include the sap's name (is that his photo as well?).

It's quite possible that other useful information could be randomly beaten...I mean...gently coaxed from him, yet ABC manages to reveal the source? So much for the possibility of other folks there to offer information covertly.

Thanks ABC.

Yep. Hard for a corpse to collect anything but flies.

Other stories have this guys arrest sometime in Spring. I'm a little dubious that any info such a person could have provided resulted in Zarqawi getting nailed yesterday. The more I hear, the curiouser it gets. I think the truth about this hit is probably far more fantastic, and some day we will see a movie about the twists and turns...

'Our ally in War on Terror'- Jordan-'coaxed' this information out of suspect. So in other words, if he hadn't been TORTURED, Zarqawi would be running around doing more gruesome Beheading videos for Al Jazeera and directing suicide bombings...
Yet when suspects die of 'heart failure' in Russia under interrogation the West & U.S [in particular' are crying 'FOUL',DISGUSTING'...
What a pack of mealy mouthed, hypocrites.TIME TO DECLARE WE ARE IN A STATE OF WAR AND ANY MEANS WILL BE USED AGAINST TERRORISTS.

A movie about the twists and turns, actualy I believe Rambo IV is being made at the moment,
but seriously, Special Guest is spot on - nastier dirtier etc.
Start taking a leaf from the book of the Brits and how they handled the situation with the IRA over the years. You may have heard of the informer "Steaknife" rumoured to be in the highest echelons of the IRA for over 2 decades. Whether real or imaginary, belief in his existance was most beneficial - turns out in the end, so they say, he was the man in charge of the internal security "Nutting Squad" ironically killing other informants.

Some $25 million that won't be going to a Jiziya, since any informant on such items would almost always be Muslims.

If only we are as lucky with Osama and Ayman, this wait will have been worth it.

Morgane

Agree with you. It's infuriating that countries like Russia are held to a higher standard than Jordan or Egypt. Granted, they are far more civilized, but what has that got to do with anything?

Is it possible the customs agent is being pinpointed as the source in order to misdirect from the real sources, who remain on the inside? The terrorists have no way of knowing, so all they can do is sweat.

Dershowitz is pretty interesting on torture. He has argued that in some circumstances judges should be empowered to issue torture warrants or licenses -- strictly for non-lethal torture that causes excruciating pain but does no serious bodily damage. Andrew Sullivan disagrees with him for complicated reasons. Sullivan seems to agree there are cases where torture must be used and will be used, whether legalized or not, and concludes that the downsides of legalizing it outweigh the upsides. An objection is that sometimes torture will not be used when it must be used, because nobody is willing to break the law. Then there is the claim made by many that torture is an ineffective way to get information -- people will supposedly tell you whatever you want to hear. The Israeli Supreme Court actually outlawed any form of torture whatsoever, under any circumstances -- even the mild sort of thing the U.S. has recently done -- making someone sit in an uncomfortable position for hours, loud music, etc.

Some British news reports hinted that Zarqawi's location was given away by his most recent propaganda video which included a lot of, flat and featureless - just low scrub, really - landscape in the background. There were similar stories of bin Laden's rough location being given away by background geology in a vid of his in Afghanistan. You can never tell whether any of these accounts are just blinds for the real source of information.

Money does not influence a muslim to turn in another muslim terrorists, but the threat of death by a thousand cuts gets them to singing.

muslims understand violence and death.

Death to Zarqawi! Death to all jihadist!

However I wonder if this signals a closer cooperation between Iran and Al Queda. Zarqawi declared war on the shiites and killed thousands of them. Men, women and children. I dare say his operations killed more muslims than the American forces has in war and it's occupation.

Iran did not like that and there is growing evidence of cooperation between Iran and Al Queda. Zarqawi may have been a sacrifice to bond Al Queda closer to the Iranian government.

Once again Bush may have done the dirty work for the shiites. Look he took out the Taliban , who the Iranians hated, he also took out Saddam who the Iranians hated even more and now the jihadist who declared war on their beloved shiite bretheren in Iraq has been taken out. And to top it off we are going soft on Iranian nuclear ambitions [ threats! ].

By design or default the road is being paved for the Iranians by America.

At any rate Death to Islam!

The terrorists have effectively created a lot of mistrust between the US forces and it Supposed Iraqi allies. I think we should be doing everything possible to create the same atmoshere in the terrorist rank and file. It becomes difficult to conduct effective operations when you constantly have to look over your shoulders and to be concerned about discussing anything to anyone for fear of a 500lb bomb or napalm or daisy cutters appearing out of nowhere.
And Ayman, Ayman, where for art thou? Your day is coming too.

Just a thought! Why don't we put out several know names as the source of the info that nailed Abu. The Mos wouldn't know who to trust or believe.
