Not surprising to see the Islamic "truce" playbook at work, but I didn't think they'd call it off so soon, or so suddenly. I figured they'd do the public-relations charade longer to convince the gullible in the West to resume aid, and generally lull whomever they can into a false sense of security.

But with the military wing calling off the truce, a few thoughts:

- It could be the formal-but-informal sabre-rattling we often see, where one government official says something belligerent that grabs headlines, and another official downplays or dissociates the larger government from it shortly thereafter, but after it's had its desired effect in the press.

- Hamas may be growing quite uncomfortable under pressure, if not from the financial restrictions still enforced on it, then from the ongoing dispute with Fatah about competing militias, and with Abbas' threat of a referendum on the recognition of Israel (though he's backed way off and moved the deadline back several weeks).

- Maybe the legions of would-be "martyrs" are getting impatient, as Hamas has been in power for a few months now:

Keeping up an enthusiasm to commit suicide on command over a long period of time has to cause some interesting psychological problems, especially given the frat party that mujahedin believe awaits them if they'll just hurry up and blow up.

To be honest, whenever I feel bored, I come and have a look at this site, and I amazed at the ignorance and utter stupidity of its members. Reason and logic is only conspicious by its absence, and there seems to be a rampant Islamophobia and hate of Muslims. I can just imagine some angry, frusrated teenagers sitting behind computers ranting away the rubbish and lies he's had forced down his throat.

I suggest that the members of this site, judge Islam on its principles and core values, rather than the actions of its so called followers. The same way that I do not dis-regard Judaism as a whole, merely because of the actions of some Jews.

About this issue; I am astounded at the ignorance of some members, and the article writer. The Israeli army today has brought about the deaths of 10 innocent Palestinins on Gaza beach, many of them children. You say that Israel has a righ to defend itself, and to be honest, if I had been fed propoganda down my nose, I would have agreed. However, what threat did these people pose to Israel? Today, the air over Gaza was clear, and there were no difficulties in seeing such people. This was an agressive and oppressive move by the zionist regime, and anyone who denies this is a fool.

Hamas, and rightly so, has vowed to defend its people. For how long more can Palestinians live under the oppressive rule of these tyrants? For how long more can they tolerate the shootings of innocent people, of people enjoying their time by the beach?

Surely, one day, truth shall separate itself from the lies that has clouded this issue. If Hamas indeed wishes to continue its efforts against the illegal usurpers of land, then they must put all efforts in driving out the Israelis from occupied lands, however they must make sure that no innocent Israelis are killed, though indeed many of them too support the systematic oppression that the Palestinians face daily.

The death of 7 (?) civilians is regretable, but this is what any war entails and any nation that wages a war pays the price with sometimes innocent lives. Surely not all Germans killed in WWII were Nazis, but it was the majority that voted Hilter into power eventually (though the support for his party was only 30% in 1933, if I am correct, much less than for Hamas recently). So did the "Palestinians" by giving an overwhelming support to Hamas. As we say: "who fights with a sword, dies by a sword." I have just watched Al BBC's feature on TV concerning the tragedy - there was a concerned warning about the scenes beforehand - how indicative that BBC never warns the viewers about the material being distressing when it shows scenes of carnage perpetrated by "Palestinian freedom fighter" on Israeli civilians.

Is it me or are western leaders(primarily euro) becoming more appeasing re Islam.

I say this as I just choked listening on the radio to the numerous bleeding heart politicians criticising the Israeli reaction to Muslim terrorism.

I have never been a socialist although I did at one time think that it was good in theory if not in fact. But I have come to the conclusion that socialism is just another word for a sewage container as its contents are similar.

The Palestinians have been living on the dole for so long that they take us all for utter fools. Just whine about the starving children loud enough and we'll fork over the cash.

Recently, though, they have REALLY put their foot in it a couple of times.

When they started whining about the lack of medical supplies when the funds were cut off, Israel told them they would provide what they needed, just give them a list. If the tax money they were holding didn't cover the bill Israel would just pay for it. The Palestinians refused. They don't want medical supplies - they want the money.

The one you hear little about though, is I think the most telling - and the most damaging. One of the Jewish communities in Gaza that was "evacuated" had a huge hot-house farming operation, very profitable, latest & most advanced of everything. Bill Gates purchased the business outright for the Palis. Wouldn't have taken much to have a really viable operation up and running, food and work for hundreds/thousands. Know what they did with it? Shot it to pieces!! Bet Bill won't be spending his money on them again anytime soon.
