NEW YORK (Reuters) - Before his death, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi had recruited hundreds of people who received terrorist training in Iraq and then returned to their home countries to await orders, The New York Times reported in Sunday editions.
Citing high-ranking security officials in Jordan, the Times said that in addition to recruiting volunteers and suicide bombers to fight in Iraq, Zarqawi had recruited some 300 people who received terrorist training in Iraq before returning home to await orders to carry out strikes.

While U.S. counterterrorism officials said they too had seen movement of terrorists from other countries including Saudi Arabia and Egypt into Iraq for training under Zarqawi and his associates, they said they believed the number of those trained and sent home to await orders was probably significantly lower than 300, the Times said.
Not that it takes very many to wreak havoc.
"My sense is that the next step might have been mobilizing his recruitment networks to attack Europeans," the Times quoted Steven Simon, a former National Security Council staff member now at the Council on Foreign Relations, as saying. "That's one reason I think his death makes a difference."
Perhaps not, in this case, since Zarqawi's followers have already sworn allegiance to whoever emerges as his successor.

The officials said Zarqawi had managed to set up logistical operations in Syria, Iran and Libya that funneled volunteers into Iraq, and that as the insurgency became increasingly driven by Iraqis, he wanted to spread it global reach and mount a challenge to Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahri as the leader of a global terrorist war.

German authorities also have arrested 18 suspected members of Ansar al Islam and the Zarqawi network since December 2004, including three Iraqis charged with plotting to assassinate former Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi during a visit to Germany last year.

Oh dear!! l'm in a quandary, who really is the enemy? This is another beat-up to distract from what is the major concern and that is islam. Bin Laden, Zarqawi, the mosque around the corner, They all follow the murderous dictates of that scoundrel book they call a qur'an.

Was Zarqawi really smart enough to do all that organising and implimenting himself? He must have had help, and plenty of it. His system is still in place, waiting for the next "Prophet of Iraq", as Zawahri called him. More Prophets? I guess they lowered the bar for prophethood. Now, most anyone with a rusty knife and a mean disposition can qualify. The next prophet of Iraq, has seen what happens when western forces get your name and address, so he probably will stay low key and direct jihadi traffic from the background...eventually his identity will become known and Bush, or one of his many agents, will come calling...

Recruiment begins in every Mosque, that is more logical, and it happens everywhere. l am so sick of hearing from Muslims and their appologists that it is only a few bad apples. now some freaking muslims in Toronto are crying out that some man (Cdn) called them names and threatened them. oh gessh, look how muslims play the victim!

What they are recruiting more? How did that happen? Wasn't someone watching them? Sarcasm off. Nothing new here folks just muslims being muslims. They are all potentially one verse away from going jihad. Keep spreading the word, winning the hearts and minds of muslims is pointless, spend your time talking to other infidels. We need allies.

'wire-tapping unauthorized', hearings must be conducted, congressional hearings... cast a vote on whether Al Zarqawis death 'weakened Al Queada'- what an idiot-circus!

Islam the Cancer of the world......A Muslim group is demanding that the Baltimore County school system remove Jewish holidays from the 2006-07 school calendar.
The demand comes after a nearly three-year battle between the Baltimore Muslim Council and the school system over adding two Islamic holy days, Id al-Fitre and Id al-Adha, to the school calendar.
Next school year's calendar, proposed May 10 and due to be voted on by the school board June 13, does not include the two holy days. But the calendar does list the Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, meaning schools are closed those days.

Jihad, demographic domination has changed my mind on immigration from Mexico. We need these streams of tens of millions of Mexican Catholics, family oriented, conservative in outlook. We are losing the demographic battle. We need to think again about the Mexican demographic boost over the next fifty to seventy-five years. Heritage estimates up to 75 million immigrants will come. Only a wall will stop them.
Otherwise, the seedlings will grow in dearborn and Alexandria and patterson and Chicago(my eternal city). If we are not stopping immigration of Muslims, at least allow us another 75 million Catholics from Mexico. The more one reads about Canada and the nature of their immigration debacle, perhaps the monies for 'a wall' would be better spent on the Canadian border. Looking out over the next fifty to one-hundred years, I believe the Latin American influx will keep the current 'percentages' at today's levels. With a strong Mexican wall, the breeding inside the US, changes with immigration from Bush and company will increase our population of Muslims to 5-8 %. At this level, it's too late. Better yet, allow in 75 million Catholics from Mexico, hard working people, and stop a single additional Muslim from coming in.

In their capacity as journalists, they no longer consider America to be "their country." That started with CNN in the Gulf War of 1991, when not just the U.S. but many Middle Eastern nations (including Iraq!) started relying on CNN for the latest news. CNN stopped thinking of itself as a news service for Americans and started thinking of itself as a news service for the world. And that means that the Muslim world must like the slant of their reportage, or else they will change the channel, most likely to either the BBC or al-Jazeera.
And the rest of the American cable news media eventually followed suit. It's an unexpected consequence of the "global economy."
For American journalists, the new concept of "objectivity" is not taking sides in a war between the U.S. and a foreign country. Both sides are reported equally as if both sides have equal credence. And that's a major change for American media from previous wars. Even in Vietnam, the American news media wasn't playing to a Vietnamese Communist audience. For that type of "objectivity," you used to have to listen to the BBC, which always had a reputation of being a worldwide news medium. Now U.S. media is becoming the same way--and necessarily adopting the same slants.

If Mexicans were true Christians, Mexican swould not fill jails, Mexicans would not traffic drugs, Mexicans would not traffic humans. Mexicans would not loot and murder. heck, if Mexicans were true christians, they would not break into USA.

I live in one of the highest concentrations of Mexican illegal immgrants in the country - that would be Santa Ana, California. Mexicans have NO PROBLEM with assimilation. There is just no comparison between the Islamic migrants and the Catholic Mexican ones. Mexicans are very family oriented and religious, although they do live on the low side of the poverty line, which is why there is a high rate of them in our prison
system. In a couple of generations, you cannot guess their background. Just no ILLEGAL immigration, if you please! It makes us nervous because we don't know who is coming over the border.

Biorabbi before you get too enthusiastic about Catholics and immigrants from Mexico, do some research.
Most converts to Islam are Catholic, and Islam is making inroads in Latin America. Esecially in the Yucatan and in Brazil, and Jose Padilla was not Irish.
From a "family values" perspective (homophobia, misogyny, patriarchialism) Islam and Catholicism (Islam and conservative Christianity) share a lot of common ground, which is the basis of this fatal attraction.
The members of This Forum where they aren't Muslim (and they abound aplenty) are mostly "conservative Christian" and mostly sympathizers with Islam. And the "reverts" on that forum were predominantly Catholic.

300+ people, out of the few "extremist" Muslims in the world (all of them Sunni Wahhabists, we are told), who were willing to come to Iraq and train to do hands-on-fighting. After watching the head-sawing videos of Zarqawi, they thought that this was what they needed to devote their life to. They are willing to fight and murder to bring shar'ia to Iraq.
So, where are the thousands, or hundreds, or a single one, of the "vast majority of moderate" Muslims who think that freedom and democracy are values worth fighting for in Iraq? We've seen the jihadists, so where are the freedom fighters?

As I explained, the news media give both sides credence when both sides' demographics are capable of comparable Nielsen ratings. There are 300 million Americans, a similar number of Europeans, and 1.3 billion Muslims. For CNN, a network that styles itself as "the most trusted name in news" for the whole planet, that means they have to please all those viewer demographics.
There isn't a big pro-drug demographic in America. If there were, CNN would pander to it too.

My mom mentioned zarqawi to me this morning. She said that she had heard that he had been told as a boy that he was not a good kid, by his father. My mom believes that made him snap and led to his becoming a sadistic terrorist. She argued that no one is born bad, it was his father that most likely turned him into a bad man. If only he had been loved more.
Well folks, this is why we may not win this. If only Hitler had it so good in 1938. Look who the mos have, that the nazis didn't.

somethingaboutislam, I don't know about the whole list, but there was alot of people who did not want to get involved in the war with Germany. The America First Committee included celebrities like Charles Lindbergh, Gerald Ford, Sargent Shriver, E.E. Cummings, Lillian Gish, Frank Lloyd Wright, and many others.
The jihad is not the first time the public did not want to face an imminent threat.
