Sistani to Muslims in Canada: obey Canadian laws..."insofar as religious values are not ridiculed"

The English stories on Sistani's widely reported fatwa about obeying Western laws seem to have left out a key caveat. AP reports:

A Canadian Muslim leader said Wednesday that Iraq's top Shiite cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, had called on his Canadian followers to abide by a fatwa or religious edicts barring them from acts of terror or violence against innocent people.

The announcement by Imam Nabil Abbas, a Canadian representative for al-Sistani - one of the world's most influential Shiite clerics - reflects efforts by the country's mostly moderate Muslims to stave off a backlash in the wake of the June 2 arrest of 17 Muslims on terrorism charges.

Abbas told a news conference in Montreal that he had asked for guidance from the ayatollah and received the fatwa from al-Sistani on Tuesday evening.

"Any Muslim man or woman must act in the best interests of his or her country of residence by protecting it from all acts that might put this country in jeopardy," Abbas said, reading from what he said was the fatwa, a ruling issued by an Islamic scholar.

But Jihad Watch reader Marc has alerted me to a qualifying phrase that pops up in this French-language story about the fatwa:

L'ayatollah Al-Sistani ordonne aux musulmans canadiens de respecter les lois en vigueur dans leur pays d'accueil, « dans la mesure où les valeurs religieuses ne sont pas bafouées ».

That is, "The Ayatollah Al-Sistani orders Muslims of Canada to respect the laws of their host country, 'insofar as religious values are not ridiculed.'"

And if they are?

Typical Muslim double talk. The truth about Islam is out and we are waking up. THeir boat is leaking

And given using the correct hand to wipe your arse is a religious value under Islam, there's plenty of outs.

Of course the very existance of infidel dogs and the very concept of freedom ridicules Islam.....

Does anyone know where I can find Sharia laws in their entirety, in English? If not, I'll have to Google it, myself--what a chore. ;-)

'Cause, I just had an idea. I'll share it with the class, since I so rarely have them. If I can find an English version of all these laws, I'll share it with all two visitors to my blog, which I update every month or so. (I don't know how some of you guys and gals do it. There just aren't enough hours in the day!)

Maybe, if we can make people aware of these irrational laws, all of them, from the heinous to the ridiculous, it might just open some eyes. With these awful mandates in mind, maybe some infidels will resist Islam and Islamic rule with more vigor, and exhort their friends and families to do likewise.

Now, I know these laws have been presented all over the place on Mr. Spencer's blog. I'm just thinking about presenting the full set--gift boxed.

"Read the Qur'an" is good advice, but I understand why people don't do it. It's the ceaseless repetition of even the most mundane subjects. The Qur'an is a bore. (And I think it's probably as boring in Arabic as it is in any other language!)

Just plain Sharia, on the other hand, would read like something out of a Stephen King novel. It would be hideous, laughable, and above all, fascinating.

I have friends and family who agree with me that Islam is not a good thing. Their agreement is vague, however. I don't think they understand WHY Islam is a bad thing.

Just as an aside--Have you guys noticed how no Muslim says that the Sharia is impossible to translate, and how you must have a full knowledge of Arabic, in order to understand it??

"The reliance of the traveller" is the clasical text on Sharia.

You're an angel! Thank you!

-Abscedere,

Can't you add your blog address to your Typekey profile?

Sistani also issued FATWA that homosexuality is Sin and gays should be killed. Muslims should follow that as well.

Abscedere,

I like your way of thinking, but we need to go further than just posting excepts from one school of (of 4 main schools) of Sunni jurisprudence (Reliance of the Traveller is Shafi'i school fiqh). Here's an online summary of some of the bad stuff in it

http://boston.indymedia.org/newswire/display_any/21475

Note: I believe at least one poster here claims to own a copy of Reliance of the Traveller.

(Unfortunately, as you point out, most of us just don't have time to post all of this stuff).

What we need on the internet are a small number of key articles with all of the relevant information summarized about Islamic history and Islamic law.

We also need an estimate of the total number of deaths due to Islam and Islamic imperialism throughout history.

These are big projects, but I believe a small number of key articles on key topics that are well-referenced are worth more than thousands of piece-meal small articles.

Archimedes,
I also want to put up on a site the number of the dead by islam. The rough estimate is 3-4 billion. I am working on the dead of India, and it is a big job. Maybe if some of us collect data about the Christians, Jews, Persians, and at least have the data ready when a site comes up ? We could upload it then with the refrences to specific cities and monuments.

arjun,

We could publish the final article at http://www.islam-watch.org/ , and from there it would be picked up by other sites. You could post what you've got so far in the Resources section, if you go into the Forum. Multiple contributors could then build upon it and update it as they complete each part.

The very first question we need to answer, though, is whether or not somene has already done this, or has done significant parts of it already.

At present, I'm too strapped for time to contribute, but certainly you could get the ball rolling at the Islam-watch site.

What does it mean to ridicule religious values? If someone said that Mohammed (pbuh) raped his slaves, murdered his critics, and slaughtered and plundered his own tribe, would that be ridicule? If someone said that fasting and sitting for days in a black silent cave has been scientifically proven to induce sensory deprivation induced hallucinations, a possibly explaination for revelation, would that be ridicule?

Go to QueeQueg's link at Amazon. The reviews are well worth a read. It seems the reading of the Sharia HAS opened a few eyes -- it gets 4.5 to 5 stars from just about everybody, but not because they loved the contents -- more because it shows what a monstrosity this "legal" system of Sharia actually is.

One reviewer learned:

"Lying is permissible when there is a legitimate desired end. And the legitimate desired end may be a personal one." "One should compare the bad consequences entailed by lying to those by telling the truth, and if the consequences of telling the truth are more damaging, one is entitled to lie." (p.746)

Some code of ethics, huh?

AFTER GOING THROUGH THE AL-SISTANI BULLSH*T DETECTOR/TRANSLATOR:

"All of the infidel world is essentially a 'ridiculing of Islamic religious values' by not adopting them. Thus, pretend to obey whatever laws the kafir dogs foist upon you, but really follow Islam."

Every Muslim knows the unspoken drill:

-Lie until you can make them die.
