Miami/Chicago Jihad Update: "FBI arrests seven in suspected terrorism plot," from Reuters:
MIAMI (Reuters) - U.S. anti-terrorism agents arrested seven people suspected of planning attacks on federal offices in Miami and the landmark Sears Tower in Chicago, a law enforcement source said on Thursday.The source, elaborating on a brief statement on the operation from Florida authorities, said the suspects had thought they were dealing with the international al Qaeda group but had been infiltrated by a U.S. government informant....
"In the past couple of days, the U.S. government has taken into custody seven people who were conspiring to conduct jihad (holy war) in the United States," the law enforcement source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
"They thought they were dealing with al Qaeda," the source said, adding the suspects had been trying to buy weapons and other things needed to carry out attacks.
The source said the government had an informant with whom the suspected conspirators had discussed their plans.
"There was no immediate threat because we were in on the discussions." the source said.
A man identified as a member of the "Seas of David" religious group later told CNN in Miami that five of his fellow members were among those arrested and that they had no connection to terrorists.
We are not terrorists. We are members of David, Seas of David," said the man, identified as Brother Corey. He said the group had "soldiers" in Chicago, but reiterated it was peaceful movement.

I suppose to be able to preach love and peace and all the warm and fuzzies nowadays , you must first go through basic training and basic warfare to be able to go door to door with their "Bible". One must first get in physical shape to visit shut-ins. No longer is having just good shoes and a nice smile required to go door knocking. One must be physically prepared. And know how to protect oneself from all the dangerous people hiding behind neighborhood doors.

Just listening to WBEN out of Buffalo (Talk 930). It was suggested that the 'peaceful, Bible-studying' bit was part of the cover they would use- if they had been caught in carrying out the attack, they might have claimed to be a Christian group, as part of their ruse.

this is encouraging on several fronts:
1) the U.S. has operatives that are convincing
2) the word is out that homegrown, US citizens and people here are planning attacks. This demonstrates that the jihad is not tied to a hardcore group of a few foreigners. It is widespread and domestic as well as foreign
3) the only thing linking these guys to other groups around the world is ISLAM... more people will see the common thread.
4) these groups still lack the imagination to do something other than attack tall buildings.
5) the United States has been succesfull over and over against these groups... I'm surprised and encouraged.

As a civilized, peace loving person, I am dismayed by the tone of the articles and comments on this site. The Islamophobic hatred fairly drips off the page.
It is a good thing that none of the racist primitives who post here have anything to say about the policies of the United States or any other so-called "Western" countries. The educated, sensitive elites (politicians, media, mainstream clergy, officers of large corporations, etc.) who run our countries have long since decided that our societies will be multicultural and that large numbers of Muslims will be invited to settle here.
It is long past time to get with the program or risk being arrested for thoughtcrime or hate speech.
When our obsolete legal system is enhanced or supplanted by Sharia law and we all revert to Islam or gladly pay the jizya with proper degrees of submission and humility, surely we will have peace.
Stop the hate and support our governments in facilitating the admission of tens of millions of good Muslims, providing these new immigrants with the benefits to which they are entitled.
Don't worry, be happy!

CNN's online article about this plot mentions "Jihad" and "Islam" within the first few sentences, whereas the New York Times, for shame, does not mention either, let alone identify the "7 men" as Muslims, in any way. I was raised on the Times, and practically learned to read by it, and love most of what they do, but this is so sad and disappointing, a cherished icon failing to live up to my expectations.

You know, I hate to say it, but this is a very logical strategy. When you consider how the Western press corps love to demonize their own before anything else, pinning equivalent terrorist habits upon "hardline" Christian groups would be the perfect cover for continuing jihadist activity.
We can say many things, but one thing we can not say is that Muslims are stupid. They often operate with the cunning of a serial killer who doesn't want anyone to find the bodies hidden in the walls of his house.
So, we find this one group in Miami. Again I ask: and how many groups unexposed, uncaptured does that leave lingering out there in the shadows?

I saw bits of a press conference that just took place with AG Gonzalez and the deputy head of the FBI. They did not go near the Islam link. One reporter asked about whether they were ideologically motivated (which I assume was his polite way of asking whether they were Muslims) and the leaders of our law enforcement agencies refused to answer the question directly. It was affirmed that the would-be jihadists did not regard the authority of the US government to be legitimate. The AG and FBI did not explain why that would motivate a bomb attack on the Sears Tower rather than, say, a tax revolt. Again, when the press tried to explore the details of this rejection of government authority, the law enforcement people refused to elaborate. They did repeatedly assert that the group had pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda. Must be a white supremacist group!
So, after a few minutes, I figured that these must be Muslims. No-one else gets such deference from our government.

One encouraging thought is that the press seems to be waking up to the fact that Islam itself is problematic. I've often entertained the same hope, Dhimmi--that our leaders are just being pragmatic in refusing to identify Islam as the threat it is. But then you have to wonder why they nevertheless go out of their way to convince us otherwise. In a report here on JW not too long back, an officer at Gitmo stressed in referring to the Koran incident that the American guards have the greatest respect for Islam. And Condi and others won't shut up gushing about the great religion of peace. So I hope you're right, that this is just shrewd policy designed to avoid needlessly provoking the maniacs, but it's also entirely possible our leaders are just clueless.

London, Asharq Al-Awsat - On the first anniversary of the 7 July attacks in London, Islamists in Britain will hold a seminar in Birmingham followed by a press conference in the capital on Monday 3 July.
Four suicide bombers blew themselves up on three underground trains and a public bus on 7 July 2005, killing 52 people and injuring hundreds.
Al Ghurabba, led by the controversial preacher Omar Bakri Mohammed, organizes the conference. He left London after the attacks to Beirut and has been forbidden from returning to Britain.
Anjam Choudry, a British lawyer and the secretary-general of the fundamentalist al Ghurabba movement, said the conference would discuss ways to prevent a repetition of the attacks and the reasons behind them.
Abu Izzadin, an Islamist activist and member of al Ghurabba, is scheduled to speak at the conference. He is a regular attendee of fundamentalist conferences and meetings and is one of Bakri’s most prominent students. He blames Britain’s involvement in the Iraq war for last year’s attacks.
Audio and video films will be shown at the conference and books on al Ghurabba will also be on sale, according to organizers. Representatives from the Shariaa courts and the Muslim lawyers’ union are expected to attend the conference.
Bakri is expected to address the conference from his house in Beirut. In a statement to Asharq al Awsat, Bakri said, “There is no doubt that the London bombings and the Madrid bombings in 2003 were the repercussions of the September 11 attacks. All these events were a reaction of US aggression in Islamic countries, in Palestine, Chechnya and Afghanistan.”

Remember 9/11? It's safe to say that came as a surreal shock to all of us. This was not the crime of fools. This was a methodical, calculated terrorist act in the name of Allah.
No, I've read enough about Al Qaeda and the methods they use to understand that while they may toss out some dense sacrificial lambs to keep us occupied, their real agents are probably at work as I type this, somewhere else in in the United States, Canada, Britain or Australia, and probably damn close to unveiling the "next big thing."

I and most other Americans have no desire to assualt muslims. We wish to be left alone to live our lives in peace in America, but the cult of islam and its followers the muslims continue to murder innocents across the globe and intend on destroying America, murdering innocent Americans and destroy our Christian way of life. Yes, this gang looks like a pack of idiots, but let's not forget there have been some very sophisticated and clever attacks. The 9/11 attack was a masterpiece of careful planning and execution, not to mention daring. The 7/7 attacks in London were also very well planned and executed. Our Islamist enemies have no shortage of clever and intelligent scumbags working for them.

Let’s revisit pre 9/11 aviation. The policy for 30 years was to hand over the ship to terrorists in hopes of avoiding death and destruction. They knew it, I knew it, you knew it. Does it really take a mastermind to exploit our soft spots? No, just watch the news and then make your plans accordingly. However the best policy is to never underestimate the enemy. So let’s give them credit for half a brain at least.

I feel this subject of African American, Mexican American, whatever American needs to be addressed. The line in the sand has been drawn, or did some of us miss it? If you use another country’s name first when describing yourself you are NOT I repeat NOT an American. Americans are, or they are not! There are more true Americans living in other counties than here in the land of the free and that is sad!
