Thank you for correcting the wording, Mr. Spencer. The language used by the major news services is atrocious. BBC actually say "Militants 'kill' Israeli settler ". Apparently, there is more than one way to interpret the act, judging by the word usage there.

What about the kidnapping of the 62 year old man - how would you react to that? What about the murder of two soldiers and the kidnapping of a third on Sunday? I am all ears - tell me what kind of response is justified.

I think that none of these murders should have occurred. I think that Shalhevet Pass, age 11 months, should not have been murdered. I think that the "extreme response" now is too little too late,and I am really curious to hear what sort of response one can justify for the murders of so many innocents.

Everyone needs to think a bit about the nuke option for Israel. This is not viable. This is like detonating one in your back yard. Which way does the wind blow? No sense killing your own people when conventional weapons and even bulldozers will do the job more than adequately.

What kind of response is warranted? Israel should know by know that piecemeal responses achieve absolutely nothing but more fodder for the saudi/aljezerra/bbc propaganda machine. They should absolutely not enter Gaza and place their soldiers in harm's way unless 1) they have firm knowledge that the other hostages are alive, and their whereabouts or 2) they intend to permanently retake their rightful lands and expel the arabs. Unless either of these circumstances obtains, the IDF should stick to dispatching the entire leadership of the 'lesser jihad', and on their own timetable. What else can be achieved?

I've done a lot of research lately for a college class, and I have to agree that it is absolutely pathetic the lack of knowledge that exists regarding Israel's founding, even among those who try to convince us of their expertise (the media in particular). Why a nation that has had to fight for its life from modern inception is required to give up land won in a defensive war is beyond me. Why they are expected to negotiate with hate-filled killers is even more perplexing.

This is a calculated and measured response, extreme it is not. Doing nothing or rounding up the leaders of Hamas and systematically beheading them for the TV cameras may be considered 'extreme'. Firm (and legal) action is the only answer to an enemy who thrive off their opponents appeasement and vacillation.

I also would be interested to hear how you would've carried out, if any retaliation/negotiations with the Palestinians and its leadership. Below is a list you may want to take from.

Arjun, I heard this barbarian on the radio this morning. It was just beyond his comprehension that a state can mobilize all its powers to defend ...just one of its citizens. That a human life can be worth it, can be worth more than the damn electricity (which comes from Israel anyway) or a bridge. That Israel does not follow the example of the Soviets (to whom it did not matter how many people were killed - Stalin used to say that "there are a lot of people so why ...economize on them") or Palis themselves (who strap their kids into belts of explosives).
