A roundup of examples of the peace and goodwill expressed in Friday sermons and afterward at various mosques around the world, and a Tiny Minority of Extremists Alert from YNetNews:
Thousands of demonstrators across the Muslim world used Friday’s Islamic day of prayer to protest Israel’s attacks on Hizbullah, urging Sunni-Shiite unity to defeat the Jewish state.
Police clashed with anti-Israeli demonstrators in Egypt, Bahrain and Indian-run Kashmir.
In Cairo, thousands of protesters waving giant posters of Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Shiite group Hizbullah, gathered after Friday prayers at Al-Azhar Mosque, the most prominent Sunni Muslim institution in the Arab world. "Sunnis or Shiites (there is) no difference; all together to resist the enemy," Sameh Ashour, head of the Arab Lawyers Union, told the crowd. "Resistance is the solution."
[...]
During a fiery sermon at a Damascus mosque, one of Syria’s most prominent Sunni Islamic clerics assailed his Arab neighbors for condemning the kidnapping earlier this month of two Israeli soldiers by Hizbullah guerillas. "Our Arab people have been surprised by our Arab leaders who have ignored what is being said on the streets," Sheik Salah Keftaro said.
Meanwhile in Iraq, radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr on Friday predicted Israel would collapse like New York’s Twin Towers on Sept. 11, 2001, if Sunnis and Shiites join in their fight.
[...]
Protesters in other cities also took to the streets including several thousand in Tripoli, Libya. About 2,000 angry demonstrators shouted praise for Hizbullah in downtown Amman, Jordan. The situation in Iraq throws a wrench in the works of even a temporary reconciliation among Sunnis and Shi'ites for the sake of fighting against Israel; also, as described below, the debate over Hezbollah's conduct is causing divisions among Arab populations, and among their governments. Both of these factors work in favor of the interests of Israel and other Western nations, and that surely drives the folks at al-Azhar and elsewhere up the wall.
"No to the Arab silence on the Zionist crimes," read one of the Jordanian banners.
In Manama, Bahrain, about 500 people demonstrated as close as they were allowed to the US Embassy, a frequent site of protests owing to US support of Israel. Witnesses said clashes developed when protesters threw stones at police photographers, and the police retaliated with rubber bullets and tear gas.
About 2,000 Muslims also marched through the streets of the Bangladesh’s capital of Dhaka.

The obligatory post-prayer rioting is getting dull. It is as predictable as sunrise in the morning. The day I am still mad enough to riot AFTER going to service, I will be taking steel and lead friends with me. Until then, I will do my best to spread the word of what is inevitably coming.
Note to Israeli's: finish this job, or you'll just be postponing it for another day!

My husband and I just read the 17th chapter of the Book of Isaiah, and in verse 1 it states that Damascus will one day be a "ruinous heap".
Grab a bible and read it for yourself -- it's chilling!! In fact -- there are some 300 bible references concerning Damascus, the oldest known city. And history shows that it's NEVER been destroyed in the past.

Can we look forward to Shia-Sunni riots throughout the ummah? And why has Hamas suddenly gone quiet, or is it simply not being reported?
Let me guess - Sunnis can't stand Shia being the stars of a war against Israel?
As an aside, an interesting article in al Bawaba about divisions within Hamas

The oldest known city is Jarmo (Jarmoh?) in the Zagros mountains.
Damascus may be the oldest continually inhabited city, though.
So what else does it say in your "Big Book of Imaginary Sky Wizards"?

Al Sadr's hyperbole about Israel falling like the Twin Towers doesn't amount to much.
Jerusalem is a mixed city. Any terrorist attack there will also take out a large number of Muslims.
Where is the symbolic target in Israel for an attack?
The most recognizable symbolic target that represents Jewish identity is the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
Any attack on the Western Wall ( in the Temple Mount region) will lead to a huge battle for this prized real estate.
Dome of the Rock ( Al-Aqsa Mosque ) will become nothing more than a Hole on the Rock.

Twin towers falling in Jerusalem?
Al Sadr's hyperbolic talk doesn't carry much weight.
Sunnis and Shiites fighting together against Israel?
Not likely.
Small terrorist attacks in cafes and buses is about all the Palestinian Muslims have done to disturb Israel.
What is the most recognizable Jewish identity target?
Western Wall ( Temple Mount) in Jerusalam.
Any attack on the Western Wall will likely lead to a battle for the Temple Mount.
Dome of the Rock ( Al Aska Mosque) will be the Hole of the Rock.

We are now seeing the true face of islam and groups like CAIR can no longer excuse away the Quranic violence and murders as the actions of a few that hijacked islam or misunderstand the Peaceful Tenets.
What I found pretty scary in Hamilton which has a large Muslim population is a Female Doctor that wanted all female children from age 9 to get special shots to protect them from a cancer mostly prompted by sexual activity.
My jaw almost hit the floor, the Doctor claimed there was a big enough percentage of sexually active children 9 and up to warrant the Schools giving the shots to all girls that turn 9 .
I don't want to connect the dots and blame islam, but didn't Muhammed marry a 6 year old and then raped her at 9 because Allah told him the virgin was a gift for his clean living and spreading islam.
This sounds like another Islam by-proxy , becuase some male Muslims are drawn to pedophilia
the PC answer is to quietly hide this Islamic tragedy behind a Cancer-scare so everyones 9 year old girl must get a shot for a "Sex" based activity that prompts the cancer to start.
The Doctor did get caught using a circular argument when challenged about promoting clean living and monogamy, she said the number of partners didn't matter, the risk is just as great from touching as actual intercourse.
So basically she wants all girls to get a shot for a cancer that has a pre-determined % per 1000 females but sex doesn't have to occure but the shot will help those 9 years and up that are having sex.
Childhood is dead, babies go from the hospital to about 18 months with the woman from the hospital, then they're driven to a home duirng the day to be raised by strangers for about 3 years, then kindergarten where other people their size jump out of SUV's and then they drive off for about 8 hours and another person picks them up and goes to their home until the SUV driver comes home.
While being raise by a TV and strange biped at home, the school teaches about all types of sex and marriages, nobody's expected to have theirown thoughts because the "State" and Unions raise the child.
By now another adult moves into the home , they bring their kids and all the baggage from the last failed marriage, next the phone rings and the Police have your child at the station up on drug charges or auto theft , the denial kicks in and the Police hear all the reasons why it can't be "Their" child that did it, it must have been "The Other" kid down the street .
The feminist movement was to free females from the kitchen and bedroom as a baby machine, but her Job replaced the kitchen and daycare has made her a baby machine for the "State" .
There's 40 years down the drain for women's Lib.

Oh no! Not the giant posters! The Israelis will be forced to bring out their even larger posters of Ehud Olmert...
Why are Muslims so fond of large photos? Is it because they just love to "blow-up" things?

OK now I’m really pissed off! The Western world is calling Israel’s defensive campaign against Hizbullah disproportionate, yet the average Jewish Israeli isn’t calling to kill every Lebanese! And yet now all these Islamic clerics are calling for unity between Islamic factions in order to massacre Jews! I call that a disproportionate use of religious rhetoric!
That’s the difference between living in freedom opposed to living in bondage, in a free country society works together for the greater good. Advancements in literature, music, theatre, science, medical research, etc. are made because citizens are free to express and pursue their talents. In oppressed societies you have very little of anything and nobody goes out of their way for their fellow countryman. You find the economy is stagnant, there is very little opportunity in terms pursuing your talents and the only way to succeed is to suck up to the single demagogue ruler or the single family that rules the country. There is no freedom of expression in the press, you get state run TV and if you try to purchase non-authorized TV satellite channels—look out for the Gestapo. You can be arrested without charge for any offense, hell—you can be killed for just trying to speak up for your rights a human being. The only outlet you have is to shout and blame the Americans or shout anti-Zionists slogans. And sometimes you are forced to attend a state forced protest against the western imperialist power of moment and yell and scream for the cameras. I don’t know who is more mentally twisted, the authority (single ruler or family run clan rulers) or its citizens that just go along with it for decades.
Also in free nations including Israel, if any religious clergy roused up their congregations like these Islamic preachers do in the Middle East, these sorts of religious practices would be not tolerated. Because free nations put reasonable limits on freedom of speech, most western nations don’t allow incitement of other religions, races or creeds. But in these other countries were the winds of freedom don’t blow, the only state authorized outlet is to blame others for your problems. It happens in countries like North Korea, Egypt, Iran, and Syria just to name a few.
So all this rhetoric is coming from Arab and/or Islamic nations that aren’t free and just promote this hatred as the only state sanctioned so-called freedom of expression. The authorities love it when their citizens are whipped up into a frenzy against the U.S., Denmark and especially Israel because it temporarily releases citizens of their pent-up rage. But deflecting citizens from focusing on their true problems in the long run does more harm than good. Once this fighting between Israel and Hizbullah stops, then what is this leader or family who runs these corrupt countries going to say next in order to appease their citizens?
It’s a sick game and frankly, I can’t wait for these rulers to be executed by their own citizens like the Romanians did with Nicolae Ceausescu. But the longer Arabs are oppressed the more likely they will want a revolution like the one that happened in Russia, where the extremists overthrew the czar and killed the entire royal family. That is the problem with these corrupt Arab regimes, they are short sighted and try to fan the flames of discontent against the western powers at the expense of their own lives. Instead of changing with the times by allowing more freedom for their citizens, they clamp down harder in trying to control the lives of their citizens. The only outlet left for the average citizen is to rage against the west but in the end that won’t be enough to save these rulers from being overthrown.
The only thing the Arabs haven’t learned yet is that throwing over tyranny and replacing it with an absolute religious indoctrinated theocracy will in the end lead them right back where they started from, it’s circular self-flagellation. Whether Arabs have a single ruler, a royal family with absolute rule or a religious theocracy, they’ll be chanting death to Israel or America or Danish cheese. If you want to get out of this cycle of poverty in the economy, the human spirit and your hatred to others you must change your thinking. You must first forget about Islam because that is an anchor around your neck dragging your mind into absolutism, so dump it! Then come to terms with living with others people, especially Jews. Muhammad demonized them because the Arabian Jews rejected his philosophy. You’re not Muhammad and you need to stop being his lapdog and barking at his enemies! Grow up, stop blaming women and especially stop belittling them; women want their freedom as well. Until Arab men start treating their women like equals, there is absolutely no hope for them to create a civil society.
The bottom-line is that if Arabs want a better life, they need to do a complete one-eighty and begin to do the complete opposite of what they are doing now: allow women their freedom (of dating, of marriage, of work, of walking without a male escort, of bodily attire, etc.), stop blaming others for your feelings of inadequacy, stop playing the victim and start being empowered through education. You can’t run a modern economy on the limiting people’s choices of knowledge otherwise you’ll be assured of high unemployment and stagnation regarding any innovation.
But please for God sake stop your stupid protesting!!!
at July 22, 2006 5:51 AM
Ok, first: why the title “radical shiite cleric” he is a shiite cleric, nuf said.
Second: Sadr has a very tight group but it is limited geographically. As much as he loves to spout propaganda he has no power to call for anything, we didn’t even see him as enough of a threat to hunt him down. Most of the protestors are just embarrassed to see lil ol Israel kicking some hizbullah butt. The numbers of protestors and the areas protested in will grow as the conflict spreads. Throwing rocks will eventually lead to even more stupidity and the rubber bullets will grow to … well just watch the news.

Lets use all of the tools in our possession, bricks and mortar, UN peacekeepers for show, special forces for effect, increased awareness in the populace, TV cameras, immigration laws, and whatever else to establish real borders around our friends like Mookie who practice the religion of peace. We'll protect them from the Jewish menace, free of charge.
Maintain military airstrips and barracks away from population centers in Afganistan and Iraq that can operate without the minute-by-minute scrutiny that Israel is currently burdened by. These facilities won’t be able to stop terrorists, but would help prevent them from organizing. These facilities will also act to protect our Arab and Persian friends from those terrible unprovoked Israeli incursions.
Allow the hate that seems to consume that area of the world to turn inwards. Let Mookie, Ahmedinejah, and Osama use their skills to build their own great society.

En passant pour la Lorraine... (old song)
En passant pour l'Irak...while removing all the planes, all the helicopters, all the Humvees, all the Bradley fighting vehicles, all the trucks, all the tanks, all the everything -- now remember, boys, don't leave any war materiel behind, including computers, including absolutely everything, god knows American taxpayers have spent or committed $400 billion to hideous Iraq and its largely hideous people, and nothning should be left behind.
And don't forget, either, to accomplish one last feat. Marines, Army, Air Force -- whatever it takes. But do consider the intelligent value of removing, for the Good Of All Concerned (but especially Infidels and, in Iraq, the handful of decent, the two handfuls of semi-decent), the name of Moqtada al-Sadr from the list of dramatis personae. He's an actor, but he hasn't been a good one.
