Riots as Somali minister killed

The jihadists who were hailed by some segments of the dhimmi Western press as bringing peace and unity to a country that has been torn apart by chaos for well over a decade now seems to be bringing it only more strife and chaos. From the BBC, with thanks to JE:

Riots have broken out in the Somali town of Baidoa after a minister in the transitional government was shot dead. Minister Abdallah Isaaq Deerow was killed outside a mosque in Baidoa, where the government is based.

On Thursday, at least 19 members of the transitional government - which controls only a small area - resigned.

In another development, a second cargo plane has landed in Mogadishu, fuelling allegations that the Islamic forces who control the city are receiving arms.

Mr Deerow, minister of constitutional affairs, was killed after Friday prayers at the mosque.

Later on Friday, hundreds of people took to the streets of Baidoa in protest at his killing, burning tyres and looting shops.

Mr Deerow was not among the group of ministers who resigned on Thursday.

Obstacle

The resignations were prompted by some ministers' dissatisfaction that Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Ghedi had failed to make progress in talks with the Union of Islamic Courts, which controls Mogadishu.

Public Works Minister Osman Ali Atto said he came back from the capital to the government's base with an agreement from the Islamic courts that fresh talks be held.

But he said that Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Ghedi was "an obstacle to progress" and had refused to listen.

Some MPs are planning a motion of no confidence in the government.

Somehow I suspect Saudi involvement. The UIC are similar to the Taliban, in that they're an offshoot of Wahabism/Salafism. Also, Adan Hashi Ayro, a militia commander of one of the courts was trained in Afghanistan. He is responsible for closing down cinemas to prevent people from watching the Soccer World Cup...I'm having a scary dejavu moment here...

There are ideological divisions within the Islamist groups, however, previously overlooked by the fact they had a common enemy - the warlords. Now that the warlords have been ousted, and the clans have switched their allegiance to the Islamists, these divisions might surface.

I wouldn't rule out Iranian involvement either, but at this moment I don't have any information to support this claim.

An important aspect of this developing story is being obscured here.

The impending new Somali civil war is going to between surrogates for the Eritrean Marxist Dictatorship and the Ethiopian Marxist Government. There is a battalion of Ethiopian troops in Baidoa to defend the Transitional Government, while arms shipments from Eritrea on chartered Kazahkstani Ilyushin 76 transports are landing in Mogadishu.

The Islamists now admit what they denied for so long: They were armed and financed by Eritrea. This accounts more than the mystic appeal of takfeeri Islam or any winning of "hearts and minds" by shooting movie viewers and soccer fans how their gunmen suddenly gained the upper hand over the warlords' gangsters.

It is no coincidence that the Somali Islamists have announced a "jihad" against Ethiopia. How useful for the Eritrean Fascists to have an ally open a second front against Ethiopia.
