Co-Defendant Of Al-Arian Is Sentenced

Rumpled Academic Update from the New York Sun:

A co-defendant in the terrorism-related trial of a Florida college professor was sentenced in Chicago on Friday to an additional 14 months in prison for food-stamp fraud, according to press accounts.

Judge Milton Shadur ordered a 51-month sentence for Hatem Fariz, 33, who was already facing a 37-month term for assisting Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

While the former convenience store owner seemed to receive a more serious punishment for fraud than for an offense connected with a deadly terrorist group, Judge Shadur said the 51-month sentence was what Fariz would have received if the two cases had been handled together.

"I will serve my time quietly and productively, and I just want to get this behind me and go on with my life," Fariz said, according to the Associated Press....

In the Chicago case, Fariz was charged with making $1.4 million off a scheme which involved giving food stamp recipients a discounted amount of cash in exchange for credits on their electronic benefit cards. He has been ordered to repay the swindled money.

Prosecutors said in 1999 and 2000 that Fariz redeemed $1.6 million in credits while ringing up only $149,000 in eligible food sales.

Get on with his life? Of bilking and money laundering and jihad?

Will this fellow be isolated from the general prison community? Prisons have proven to be fertile grounds for Islamic prosyletizing.

Prisoners have been segregated by ethnicity or race when it was deemed necessary for prison safety. In other words, the state had a legitimate interest strong enough to justify such a policy.

Does not the state have a legitimate national security interest in separating all those who have been involved, either as direct participants in, or supporters of, terorrism, so that they are put in separate facilities where they cannot continue to conduct Jihad through Da'wa, the Call to Islam, and to spread or promote belief, therefore, in Jihad against Infidels. That is a clear state interest which, if properly presented, surely would withstand strict scrutiny.

Otherwise, these people convicted at least in part for their Jihad-related activities will merely continue to do what they did outside of prison, but this time using other instruments of Jihad -- "pen, speech" -- to find recruits for the Army of Islam.

Is that what the people and government want? Is it wise? Does it make sense for our own civilizational and physical survival? Is it not far more threatening, indeed, than the experienced criminal who imparts his accumulated wisdom to younger, less experienced criminals -- which is bad enough, but in this case what is happening is the seizure, the taking possession,of the minds of those who are both a captive audience in every sense, and who are economically and psychically marginal -- the very best reservoir of recruits for that domestic Ansar al-Islam, Army of Islam, which prisoners are being persuaded to join in the prisons of the West, every day.

It's no surprise that this guy is using our ridiculous entitlement system to finance his jihad. Want a glimpse at our future?

One word: Sweden.

Why waste tax dollars supporting him in prison. DEPORT him now. Let his "religion" take care of him in a Muslim land.
