And this ain't no Robbie Coltrane movie. Hunt him down and kill him, says Sheikh Abubukar Hassan Malin. "Somali cleric calls for pope's death," from AFP, with thanks to News4U:
A HARDLINE cleric linked to Somalia's powerful Islamist movement has called for Muslims to "hunt down" and kill Pope Benedict XVI for his controversial comments about Islam.Sheikh Abubukar Hassan Malin urged Muslims to find the pontiff and punish him for insulting the Prophet Mohammed and Allah in a speech that he said was as offensive as author Salman Rushdie's novel The Satanic Verses.
"We urge you Muslims wherever you are to hunt down the Pope for his barbaric statements as you have pursued Salman Rushdie, the enemy of Allah who offended our religion," he said in Friday evening prayers.
"Whoever offends our Prophet Mohammed should be killed on the spot by the nearest Muslim," Malin, a prominent cleric in the Somali capital, told worshippers at a mosque in southern Mogadishu.
"We call on all Islamic Communities across the world to take revenge on the baseless critic called the pope," he said.
Expect Sheikh Abubukar Hassan Malin to be burned in effigy by Muslims worldwide, for daring to suggest anything other than the proposition that "Muslims have no violent character." (Actually, of course, all too many self-proclaimed Muslim moderates are much more likely to criticize those who report on the Sheikh's words than they are to criticize the Sheikh himself. Hmmm. Now why is that?)

WW III ALERT
"As security was beefed up around Pope Benedict XVI on Saturday night, the Mujahideen's Army movement in Iraq threatened to carry out a suicide attack against the Pope in revenge for his comments about Islam and jihad.
On a website used by rebel movements in Iraq, a message posted by the Mujahideen's Army said members of the organization would "smash the crosses in the house of the dog from Rome.""
From JP News: Mujahideen's Army threatens Pope with suicide attack

If they attack the Vatican, damage St. Peter's, or threaten Pope Benedict's life, it would be very bad for Muslims all over Europe and the world. They better call off this latest Jihad (by the religion of peace) or it will be suicidal for them. The West ignored them this long, like an annoying gnat, but this would raise war in magnitudes of violence they never imagined. God help them then, or it will be 'God's will', where they will be forced to accept total 'submission' to their conquest. It can happen, and men of the West are not shy of violence if it is provoked. Muslims beware.

Does anyone here recall that the Muslims, and their supporters in Europe, and elsewhere, were complaining that Israel's reaction to Hezbulla terrorism was "disproportionate?"
"Disproportionate?"

Ah yes, the religion of peace. What will it be next ladies? Suicide bombers in Saint Peter's Square at the Vatican??

For years, folks on JihadWatch and elsewhere have asked why our leaders don't discuss the issue of jihad openly--the fact that Islam has traditionally been spread by the sword, and is still being spread that way.
Now we see why: If any world leader dares to discuss it (even in a highly abstruse, intellectual way like the Pope did), the result is threats and violence, including the deaths of innocent people. And the Western Leftist elites will denounce that world leader for "inflaming a delicate situation" rather than support him for his courage to discuss a delicate issue.
If we in the West have reached the point that we dare not have an open discussion about jihad for fear of violence, we're in deep, deep trouble. I've always believed that a sure sign that you're in dire straits is when things have gotten so bad that you don't dare discuss openly how bad things have gotten. Because if you can't discuss it, you'll never reach consensus on a solution to it.

The Pope quotes someone who said that violence has no place in religion, and for that the Muslims want to kill the Pope.
And the Pope is under pressure to apologize.
This is Kafkaesque at its most hilarious and tragic.
Some have suggested the Pope must apologize just for his own personal safety. I hope the Pope disagrees with that sentiment. As a man of God, he should believe that he will be under the protection of a higher authority for standing up for his religion and against violence in religion. Some principles are worth putting ones life on the line for, and I believe this is one of those cases. This madness has to come to an end.

The New York Times has already given the Western intellectual elites one half of their marching orders: The Pope is a "doctrinal conservative" (shame on him!) who cares more about Catholicism than about "tolerance" (shame on him!). Therefore this entire upsurge of violence is his fault, and it continues to be his fault for not issuing a deep and abject apology to the Muslim world.
The other half of the Western Left's marching orders came from the BBC, whose Middle East analyst said that this upsurge in violence is "really" about anger over the Iraq War. Bingo! That way the Left can now claim that the Pope is in danger because of Bush.
If the Pope is assassinated, the Western Left will say exactly what they said about 9-11: The Pope had it coming, and it's all America's fault anyway, especially Bush's fault.
And the Islamic jihad will roll on, unhindered.
Most folks here at Jihad Watch have been watching the worldwide Islamic reaction to what the Pope said. I think the Western Leftist reaction to all this is just as interesting--and just as disturbing.

I'm glad someone has a different outlook. If something does happen as you suggest, ordinary people might take matters into their own hands. They will feel compelled to because our leaders will sit around with their thimbs up their _____ wondering why THEY don't love us, and criminals like Peterson will blame the Pope for using inflammatory speech.

Keep in mind that in the 1980's, it was President Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II that were speaking out against Communism. Both ended up getting shot - the pope was shot by a Muslim.
Now today it seems that only President George Bush (now taking heat for using the phrase "Islamofacism")and Pope Benedict are speaking out against radical Islam...
We need to be praying for both of these brave souls!
Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us.

That's IT! I'm converting back to catholic! Never been one, but hey, the only reason I'm not is because of Henry the VIII.
Right on about the freedom of speech StevenL. Well said. Now if you could get those cult of death people to understand that. But, hey. They are too busy acting out as Michelle Malkin said it: something about the cult of endlessly enraged. I can't recall her exact words, but she said it very well.
What would happen IF someone harmed the Pope? Would the catholic faithful, riot and smash mosques? Would the Opus Dei, what some of us might consider the most fundamentalist, burn likenesses of Mohammed or Nasralah or bin Laden? I don't think so. I think the christians would all be praying and returning to churches en masse.

"Whoever offends our Prophet Mohammed should be killed on the spot by the nearest Muslim,"
Well, Mohammed was a lying, demonic-filled terrorist, false prophet, perverted child molester and murderer. His followers are like him. So those words must put me on the list. Come on, hunt me down for insulting the satanic mohammed. I would rather live in heaven with Jesus than in hell with Mohammed and muslims.

Again and again we see simple statements about Islam turned into a call for the deaths of Christians and all non-Muslims and for the death of the originator of the statements. If this doesn't convince people that Islam is violent due to its founder, theology, history and current practice, nothing will.
Over and over we hear "whoever insults Islam should be killed." The Muslims protest and even kill over the simplest things and then accuse of us "having the Crusader mentality." They've never apologized for their Jihad conquests...
If one were to actually read what the Pope said, it hardly criticizes Islam at all, and the Pope even said the quote was written when Constantinople was under seige by Muslims! So here we have the Emperor of Constantinople and his city under seige saying that religion shouldn't be spread by the sword and Muslims get upset that the Pope would dare quote such a statement and then they threaten violence. The irony, if it is ironic, is deafening. It pains the soul to see such barbaric acts accepted by the mainstream media...
I worked at a TV station and got my undergrad in Journalism. Thank God the teachers were not biased, but many of the students certainly were and now they work in the media. *sigh*
I'm writing a paper for one of my graduate classes to break the myth of the "religion of peace." Can anyone recommend any books that deal with the jihad conquests post-Muhammud by Muslim and non-Muslims sources? I have "The Myth of Islamic Tolerance," "Onward Muslim Soldiers," and "The Legacy of Jihad," but I'm looking for more contemporary sources. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's getting tedious, trying to anticipate all the things that will send a peaceful Muslim into frenzied delirium. Some recent Muslim outrage-spawning events:
- Satirical cartoons of Muhammad.
- Pres. Bush's (accurate) definition of Jihadist violence as "Islamic fascism".
- The accidental electrocution of two Muslim youth who were hiding from police in a high voltage electrical transformer station. (caused riots in France for weeks)
And now, a papal quote from an obscure 14th century emperor in the context of an academic lecture about separating violence from religion.
Too bad there's not a way to lace the water in all Muslim countries with Prozac.

Not to worry, folks. I'm sure that the distinguished Islamic theologians the Imams Toni Blairistani and Jorge al'Dubya will soon be along explain to us poor dumb dhimmis that this is actually a peaceful response that only feigns advocacy of murderous violence - it must be understood in its proper cultural context, you see. The really violent one here is Pope Benedict, who has done violence to the greatest principle of all time - that of "tolerance."

We are dealing with stone aged mentalities with satellite TV. The Pop gives a lecture with 2000 years of Christian thought and 2500 years of Greek reason behind him. His points are totally lost on the Quran memorizers.

The PC media aside, the first thing that will happen is voters boot out their present administrations who are 'soft' on Islam. Then it gets worse. Watch Sweden's elections as a good first case study. This is the 'non-violent' solution. Violence follows if this fails. I think Muslims had been led into a false sense of comfort by the PC crowd, their violence and riots perenially excused. We will only take so much before we react, and we had been slow to react, like 20 years slow. This last temper tantrum by Mo's disciples may just have changed the wind.
After this last strings of threats, watch also the mid-term elections in the US for changing wind.

Pray for the Pope, please.
May the Lord preserve our Holy Father Benedict XVI, give him life and make him blessed upon earth and deliver him not to the will of his enemies.
Let us Pray: O God, the Shepherd and Ruler of all the faithful, in Thy mercy look down upon They servant Benedict XVI, who Thou has appointed to preside over Thy church, and grant we beseech Thee, that both by word and example he may edify those who are under his charge, so that, with the flock entrusted to him, he may attain life everlasting. Through Christ our Lord. Amen

This uproar just goes to show that Islam is a religion driven by terroistic treats ( and actions ) along with a torrent of sheer hatred. Which is all covered up by a curtin of lies and denial.
The sad part is that the Western media is plastering it's self along that curtin on lies and denial.

Somalia is a failure of a country.
Islam is the only hope they have. What they don't realize is that, since it is a false doctrine, one day it is going to let them down.
There is worse than being stuck with a false doctrine: Having no hope of improvement because independent enquiry and the use of reason are not allowed.

"Cognitive dissonance" from another thread: Thank you, spiny norman. My words precisely! So, where's Hugh when you need a dictionary?
It would seem as though even the most insignificant cleric in the Ummah has been given access to Andy Warhol's famous creed about "fifteen minutes of fame". Well, the fifteen minutes are up. Like sand through the hourglass, these are the days of...
And when such an insignificant cleric can actually feel confident about inciting fatwa against a very large persona, with no fear of consequences, it teaches ever more Westerners about the motives behind the increasing "anger" of the Moslem world. It makes it that much more difficult for me to believe that there is anything peaceable about Islam. It teaches me that Islam belongs to the most brutal thug, the biggest mouth, the deepest pocket. And how can I think anything but this, when a desert nomad can take ownership of a life in another dimension (ie the Western world, 21st centuray) and then declare that life null and void.
Oh dear...

The Scripture says that the wicked plot against the innocent, but in the end it is the wicked (read Mullah) who will perish.
Salman Rushdie continues to survive, even though the death threats have never been lifted. He dared to speak the truth about Islam.
Now Pope Benedict makes a statement in the context of a much larger speech about Reason and he is roundly condemned even though he did not insult Islam.
These oversensitive babies need to be disciplined and put back into their bedrooms.
All white wearing Mullahs, and Muslim men and their families must be immediately expelled from every western nation. They should be deported, first to Somalia, then to Afghanistan and Pakistan. They should not be given any form of compensation.
Expulsion is going to be the only way to deal with this menace. It is the only way to deal with the constant death threats and the violence that is constantly being incited against Christians, Jews, Hindus and Buddhists.
They all belong in the same place as the false prophet Mohammed.
