Some Muslims will not be satisfied with the Pope until his apology is sufficiently abject, his dhimmitude sufficiently secured. From AP, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:
ANKARA, Turkey - Muslims in Turkey, Iraq and the Palestinian territories demanded Tuesday that Pope Benedict XVI make a clear apology for his remarks on Islam, instead of saying only that he was "deeply sorry" that Muslims had taken offense. The prime minister of Malaysia, which chairs the world's biggest Muslim bloc, said that Benedict's expression of regret was acceptable.
In Turkey, protesters said Benedict must make full amends before a planned November trip that would be his papacy's first visit to a Muslim nation.
"Either apologize, or do not come," read a banner carried by a group of demonstrators from a religious workers' union.
Iraq's parliament also rejected Benedict's explanation of his remarks, saying it was insufficiently clear.
The parliament "demands the pope take practical steps to restore respect to the Islamic world and its religion, and a clear-cut apology for what he said," lawmakers said in a statement read at a press conference.
Iraq's Parliament might consider doing their own bit to "restore respect to the Islamic world and its religion," by moving decisively and actively against violence committed daily in Iraq in the name of Islam. No, don't hold your breath.

John Wayne is oft quoted in his movies--
" Don't apologize, it is a sign of weakness"
It is a true statement.

They don't want an apology. They want the Pope's
(and by extension, Christianity's) complete and abject humiliation.
The shame/honour dynamic.

True, the blood lust muzzies don't want an apology, what they really want is the Pope's head.... Literally.

I listened to NPR and Diane Rehm show. There was discussion about recent events surrounding Pope's speech in the University of Regensburg.
The Professor of Islamic Studies in George Washington University Seyyed Hossein Nasr caught my attention with his comments that instead of condemning the violence committed by muslims blamed the Pope for his words, which he condemned as acts of violence. I was disgusted that this kind of person was given so much airtime.
I also noted that Seyyed Hossein Nasr had previously written about Islam and violence.
http://www.al-islam.org/al-serat/IslamAndViolence.htm
I quote from the above source:
"The goal of Islam is the attainment of peace but this peace can only be experienced through that exertion (jihad) and the use of force which begins with the disciplining of ourselves and leads to living in the world in accordance with the dicta of the shar'ia. Islam seeks to enable man to live according to his theomorphic nature and not to violate that nature. Islam condones the use of force only to the extent of opposing that centripetal tendency which turns man against what he is in his inner reality. The use of force can only be condoned in the sense of undoing the violation of our own nature and the chaos which has resulted from the loss of equilibrium. But such a use of force is not in reality violence as usually understood. It is the exertion of human will and effort in the direction of conforming to the Will of God and in surrendering the human will to the divine Will. "
I'm confident that the victims of islamic terrorism everywhere understand that the act of violence was only undertaken to restore the loss of equilibrium. And such force is, in fact, not violence but an effort in the direction of conforming to the Will of God.

I looked at the Nasr link but could only get as far as "the Crusades - which were not begun by Muslims".
In a way (a blame the victim way),this is true, as it was another of those naughty Byzantine emperors who asked the catholic pope for help against the Muslims who were attacking Byzantine territory.
However, had the Muslims not been attacking, the emperor would have had no reason to ask the dirty, rough and uncultured westeners for aid, and would have avoided having much to do with the smelly brutes.
Muslims also neglect to mention that the pope actually got the 'holy war' idea from them, but
we all know what they say about payback....
