Turkey: Army will protect country from Islamists

And the the EU has expressed objections to this, remaining all too eager to extend the rights and privileges of membership to a country where jihadists can -- and will, if allowed -- exploit the democratic process to achieve their goals. From AP:

A top Turkish general said Monday that increasingly powerful Islamist forces threatened Turkey's secular system and that the army would play its role in defending the country against them, the state-run news agency reported.
General Ilker Basbug's comments appeared aimed at both the Islamic-rooted government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and at EU officials who have repeatedly called on the Turkish military to limit its role in state affairs.
The military views itself as the protector of Turkey's secular identity. Fiercely secular generals have directly led three coups since 1961 and ousted a government from power in 1997 for what they saw as an excessive Islamist bent.

What "regligous" group comprises the Turkic Army?

Good for the Turks. At least Attaturk won't be rolling in his grave.

Posted by: ISLAMSFORLOSERS [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 26, 2006 10:43 PM

Even should Turkey avoid "islamicization" it should still not be admitted to the EU--as the Pope has said, its cilture is incocmpatible with Europe's foundation. And there is a new attempt to introduce European Christian history to any proposed revised EU constitution.

Actually the Turkish army is overwhelmingly secular, and see their duty to protect the state from Islam...following Ataturk, they have been indoctrinated(in a good sense) that Islam is a reactionary, uncivilized force.

Why not "gallowglass"?

Turkey will not be admitted to the E.U. That is no longer the question. The question is whether the beneficiaries of Kemalism will stop objecting to the army's use of force to protect them, and it, and to finally suppress the steady re-islamization of Turkey. About one-quarter of the Turkish population might be called "secular" -- which is a relative not absolute term -- and they have pocketed the gains dervied from, but taken none of the pains to defend and expand, the systematic Kemalist restraints on Islam. Perhaps they have learned a lesson, and will allow force to be used, and not object. As for Europeans, for whom such questions as suppressing Islam as a political force are still -- but not for much longer -- abstract questions, for which they furnish holier-than-thou abstract solutions, they can safely be ignored by the Turkish army.

Posted by: Hugh [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 26, 2006 10:59 PM

History has shown that military forces have a limited ability to control a population's overall political direction over time, at least in most cases. There are many Middle Eastern armies the label of "secular" might be given to, but their actions are controlled by the extreme majorities. The likelihood that the Turkish Army could prevent an extremist takeover of the streets is unlikely without a large amount of force that we in the West might think "unnecessary". Majorities rule in extremist Islamic societies just as they do in democracies, only they rule extremely and with no regard to minority population’s rights.

From the DAILY MAIL:

One of Britain’s most infamous Islamist extremists is seeking three more wives through the internet.

Omar Brooks, who described the 7/7 suicide bombers as "completely praiseworthy" and heckled Home Secretary John Reid in a high-profile confrontation last week, has signed up to a Muslim marriage website.

Although already married with three children and reportedly living off £700 a month in state benefits, the 31-year-old is seeking more wives, with the intention of fathering more than nine children.

Looks like Britain should follow their example. Or maybe the Brits should pretend these mufti benefit-drainers on their society are German. ANYTHING to get them OUT OF THEIR HAZE!!!

£700 is about $1300.. more than the average Joe pays in monthly taxes.. Means there are 1-2 average Joes supporting this filthy leech!!

Have they even admitted to the Armenian genocide yet?

A better question should be: has Turkey banned music yet? Because that's probably coming, either way.

Europe is screwed if Turkey joins the EU.

While I was in the service, in Germany, we were offered, many times, to go TDY in Turkey. It seems like we had a large listening post there that needed maintenance on their communication equipment.

We had a fairly good regard for the Turkish military. We stayed out of their way and they looked the other way on some of the things our guys did.

I think that they are nationalistic to the point where Islamics would be cautious about their approach. It will be interesting to watch that situation unfold. Turkey keeps their eyes on the Kurds also. So they have a twofold problem in their own backyard. I'm not ready to throw in the towel on them.

God willing, of course.

"Europe is screwed if Turkey joins the EU."

Europe is already screwed. Europe is a "dead man walking", as another commenter posted elsewhere.

Dark prediction: Europe will end up producing a demagogue who will "cleanse" the continent of Islam. There will be concentration camps and gulags. They've done it before, and it's either that or dhimmitude forever.

Turkish secularism is not real as long as there is no true freedom of religion.

How can a country be truly secular when most of its identity and symbols are Muslim-based?

Posted by: rocky [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 27, 2006 12:21 AM

Ironically we have a secular military that 'protects' Turkey from becoming another Islamic nightmare, and in Thailand we see a Buddhist prime-minister toppled by a Muzlim general he put in power to stop the Islamic insurgency in the south.

Anything for 'peace:'

The King, a rather naive King getting old and senile, seems to trust the Mohammedan generals 'oath of allegiance'- something that has historically ended in disaster. The new prime-minister to be installed will be a puppet of the Mohammedan choosing, with the power to rubber-stamp whatever the Islamic agenda may be.

Thaksin armed the (Buddhist) villagers in the south against the aggressive Mohammedan mobs, now we shall see their weapons taken away and large scale murders/slaughter while the Islamic expansion continues...

One of the current conditions of Turkish entry into the EU is that they must admit that the WWI Armenian massacres were a genocide. Amazingly, the socialist group in the EU ssembly is pressing to have it removed - it was a socialist who had it included originally but changed her mind after an outraged reaction from Turkey. Some centre right politicians wanted a clause condemning Muslim over-reaction to the Pope's remarks put in to a report on the progress of Turkish accession talks this week but had to content themselves with a statement welcoming the Pope's forthcoming visit to that country and hoping would contribute to Christian / Muslim dialogue. let's hope Merkel has her way ultimately, and that they only end up with priveleged partner status.

According to The Telegraph;

Worldstage
By David Rennie, Strasbourg
(Filed: 27/09/2006)

Title: Mutual trust is in short supply in Europe

Rising distrust has consequences for the countries next in line, from tiny Croatia to giant Turkey, whose entry is now supported by only one major power, Britain.

Romania's and Bulgaria's green light for entry does not mark a new wave of enlargement; it represents the tail-end of the last wave in 2004, when eight other ex-Communist nations joined the EU, plus Cyprus and Malta. We will never see another mass expansion like it. If levels of trust do not improve, it may be a while before we see significant EU enlargement at all.

All issues involving disagreement with islam or islamic countries will (must) be resolved by violence,or the threat of violence. The Turkey (EU) issue is no exception. The sooner, the better, as the west will never be better prepared than it is now. The sooner islam attacks, the more effective the counter attack will be. Some in the west, including the U.S., will never wake up so we respond with those who are already awake.

I find it kind of curious that the Turkish military is so sturdily secular. They are virtually all Muslims, yet they apparently have adopted a rather heretical attitude toward Islam.

Posted by: traeh [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 27, 2006 5:28 AM

Well of course it's great to know the Turkish Generals will throw 'too Islamic Governments out' [why are they taking so long with Erdogan??]
- the only way to control Islam is by BRUTE FORCE.
Don't believe Turkey will ever be admitted to E.U-sole supporter left Britain aka Blair is on his way out-good riddence !
Had to laugh at a ridiculous spiel written by BBC
praising 'Multiculturalism in Sweden' just before this country threw out their Dhimmi Socialist Government. If no one has noticed-every country in E.U is making Right Hand Turns particularly Germany where Neo Nazi Party have been making gains...
I also agree with one of other posters there will be gulags & concentration camps because there is NO way Europeans are going to give up their lands and submit meekly to Sharia.Breathtaking arrogance of Muslims will be their Undoing and you don't need no Prophet to Predict this...Omar Brooks & others will find themselves deported or worse in the not too distant future.NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE OLD BERSERKER STRAIN IN ALL GERMANIC TRIBES INCLUDING
THOSE IN BRITAIN.

If the Turkish army acts to overthrow the Islamist government the liberals will throw a hissy fit, just like they did when Pinochet seized control of Chile. However, left wing dictator-generals like Chavez don't bother them, and their silence over a coup in a Buddhist nation led by a Muslim general is deafening.

american in germany: you must be aware that Europe was too busy undermining American power on the world stage for the past two generations to care what evil was developing within its own borders. Denial is still rampant among Europeans as is cowardice. Al-Qaeda for example was hatching many lethal jihad plots on German soil in Hamburg. Ruhollah khomeini hatched Iran's islamic revolution while living in France. Yassir Arafat-- a jihadist--was awarded a Nobel Prize in the late 1990s!!!

I see a new Europe taking shape--one with no majestic cathedrals left on its territory, no Christianity, no democracy, no freedoms, no culture. I see a forlorn, desolate land emerging where masses of sterilized, caucasian, formerly Christian, civilized, proud people apathetically bow five times daily at their moaques as they face towards Mecca to pray. Someone at this blog once called Europe the next Indonesia, and that's about right.

Europeans, particularly the French, were eager to undermine America. It would seem that they have now succeeded. America's power has been eroded to the point where it may no longer be able to save Europeans from themselves--or from Islam. In the process, Europeans may have delivered themselves into the shackles of ruthless, sterile, savagely dehumanizing, and plain evil that are Islamic totalitarianism.

Such is the price these people were apparently willing to pay for indulging in anti-Americanism, envy, greed, coveting, hypocrisy, treachery, and abandonment of Christian principles, and democracy. France even incubated the Islamic revolution by permitting the Ayatollah Khomeini to live and operate on French soil for years-I do not believe that the authorities did not know what he was up to.

Even if America still could bail Europeans out of this mess--will Americans have any desire to do so now? Why should they? So China will bail Europeans out this time? They had better hope so, because helping Europe in the past never really paid off for Americans. It is now clear that France and Germany for example were never really our friends and today totalitarian China ranks higher than America among European popularity polls (such values).

Europe all but asked for an Islamic totalitarian takeover--and it is now getting it. Karma is a bitch.

germaninamerica: maybe the way out of this for Europeans would be to THROW FRANCE OUT OF THE EUROPEAN UNION. France nurtured Islamic terrorism in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, so maybe it is France that has latently been the real tumor in Europe. Isolating it and castrating it might save the continent. The French were never held accountable for this crime against humanity! I think it is time they were. Jacques Chirac was even a buddy of Saddam Hussein's (a man who put living, sceeaming humans into MEAT GRINDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

I also understand that French people are generally despised by other Europeans (I know a lady from Hungary who tells me she personally wants to see France NUKED ASAP).

Turkish secularism is a joke. What could you expect from a country whose National Assembly arranges its working hours according to the fastbreaking times during the month of Ramadhan?

The army is secular, but only the officers. (Muslims are carefully eliminated during military school stages.) I doubt the majority of the soldiers would hold up their guns against their Muslim brothers, should the army march in to protect secularism against an Islamist threat.

Turkey in EU? I would bet anything against it. No way. After all, we do not feel European at all. Were I a European, I wouldn't want Turkey either. My poor knowledge of economics doesn't suffice to figure out how Turkey would be of any use to Europe.

To bohemond_1069:

Why would a nation burn a city after reconquering it? You might think Turks are stupid, but not that much! I had laughed my .ss off when my history teacher in the US had sad Turks had burnt Izmir (Smyrna). Get real! Greeks are swimming back and I regained my land. Why shall I waste it?... It was the Greeks who had burnt the city not to leave it to Turks, just as Israel would destroy the houses they build before leaving a piece of land to Arabs.
