Hamas charities thrive despite U.S.-led fund freeze

"There is a lot of money in Hamas." Yes, terrorism is profitable these days. By Joshua Mitnick in The Washington Times (thanks to Jeffrey Imm):

RAMALLAH, West Bank -- A U.S.-led funding squeeze, which has paralyzed the Hamas-led Palestinian government, has had the unintended effect of bolstering the militant group's network of schools, hospitals and alms societies.

Foreign donations, often consisting of cash in suitcases smuggled across the border, have permitted Hamas' vast social-welfare network to thrive, say officials and analysts.

"All charitable organizations affiliated with Hamas are still functioning," said Sheik Yazeeb Khader, an editor of Hamas' West Bank newspaper. He said the charities in Gaza have especially benefited from money "brought across the border and not checked."

For years, while Hamas' military wing dispatched suicide bombers to Israeli cities, the group's civilian wing quietly built up a grass-roots following with its network of Islamic social-welfare organizations.

The charities went far beyond anything established by the secular government of Yasser Arafat and helped give Hamas the support needed to oust Arafat loyalists in January elections and take power in March.

Unable to pay for supplies, government ministries have since ceased to function, and without salaries, civil servants have gone on strike.

The charities, however, openly boast that they continue to get money from Muslim communities in the Persian Gulf, Europe and the United States....

"There is a lot of money in Hamas," said Abdel Nasser Najjar, a columnist for Al Ayyam, a newspaper of the opposition Fatah party.

All other banks in the world seem to get the highest scrutiny yet the Bank of Jihad keeps growing unchecked. These "charities" should be seized (at least in the West) and all money donated to the victims of the jihadist pigs.

Yes, terrorism is profitable these days.

Yes, indeed it is. $3 billion dollars a year from the US treasury floods into Israel. A state which has made 5 million people refugees, slaughtered thousands of innocent people, thrown thousands of Palestinians into their dungeons, put Palestinians under daily occupation and humiliation and has subjected them to death and terror and has committed crimes upon them which pens and tongues are ashamed to describe.

For 50 years now, a state has been built upon land which is not its own. The Palestinian people have been deprived of their land, their dignity, and their respect for too long. For how longer should they suffer? For how longer should they have to put up with the daily Israeli curfews, destruction of property and bombings?

Robert Spencer, the terrorists are not Hamas but the Israeli government and army, which is massacring people on a daily basis. Open your eyes. People are shedding blood every single day over a regime that has no reason to exist. Why should the Palestinian people have to pay?

They have every right to defend themselves by any means possible, and God willing, the flag of Imam Mahdi (aj) will be flying over Al Qods in the not too distant future.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh):

"Armies carrying black flags will come from Khurasan. No power will be able to stop them and they will finally reach Eela (Baitul Maqdas in Jerusalem) where they will erect their flags."

More lies, if they had enough money then why whine? If they spent 1/3 of the time they spent whining on developing job skills they wouldn’t be poor enough to need charity. Don’t blame others for your weaknesses. Lie down like dogs or stand up and build your choice. You tried the pity angle; it didn’t work, try improving yourselves and build a real nation. Toss those old men out on their ass and try some new ideas.

Jihadist Labayk Ya Nasrallah is spewing the usual anti-Zionism rhetoric of the Jew-haters. They don't seem at all concerned about all the blood spilt by the Islamofascists against ANYONE who DARES speak a word of TRUTH about their evil intentions and deeds. Therein lies the pathetic UGLY biases and disgusting prejucies of the anti-Jewish cabal. They turn a blind eye to virtuously EVERYTHING that will truthfully expose the evil deeds and intentions of Islamofascists, while pointing a self-righteous finger at their enemies faults and shortcommings. They SEE no evil, HEAR no evil and SAY no evil of their friends, the Jihadist terorists. These types are nothing but a bunch of blood-thirsty, venum spewing hatemongers who live to HATE. They feed off this hatred EVERY day. Then they claim that a god "of mercy" is on their side!?!

"Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent-the Lord detests then both." Proverbs 17:15

Off-topic (slightly), but I learned today that Falun Gong are terrorists--and that the Chinese Communist Party have their own side of things to tell.

I learned this from my 10th+ generation Anglo-American co-worker. His in-laws are nice people *and* they were CCP members since even before the KMT was chased from mainland China. He suggested that I talk to his wife to learn about how wonderful the communist party is, and how horrible the Falun Gong are.

I asked him what kind of story she had that could make me forget about 100,000,000+ deaths in the 20th century. Or forget about watching the Tiananmen square massacre.

This is the same co-worker who told me that we shouldn't worry too much about terrorism here--it's common in Europe, and the Europeans accept it as a fact of life. We should too.

Yeah, our republic is in great shape.

Like it or not, Israel is here to stay. The civilized world accepts the fact that Israel is a legitimate nation. In 1947, it was agreed that the traditional home of the Jews would be set apart for them as Israel.

At that time, residents of the area not wishing to be part of the new country were offered "Palestine" on a plate with borders and everything. The Arabs instead chose to attack Israel immediately. And it continues. Can peace ever prevail in this region?

The acceptance of Israel must begin now.The Jews are never "going back to Europe".The flow of money to Hamas must stop.Moderates who are aware of funding should report what they know.Otherwise, many innocents will die.

Soon, the enemies of Israel will be completely destroyed by the free world. The new terrible attacks that the radicals propose and will most likely carry out are going to seal their fate.Too bad no peace-loving Arab or Muslim in the Middle East has a chance at making a difference. To stand up for what is right gets you headless.

This story is factually bankrupt if this story has any credibility:

Are we in fact bolstering their homicidal, genocidal plans with $26 million? Whatever happened to the Bush doctrine? Something about making no distinction between the terrorists and those who support them. Are we supporting terrorists? What is Bush/Rice thinking? This is suicidal for us, homicidal for Israel. Please help me to understand...

Oh dear, dear, dear...Why don't we march...Why don't we have a walk out day...That would certainly get the governments attention...We might have to do it a few times...Like maybe we can do a walk out once a month and protest...We need a leader...Any volunteers?

I am willing to bet that there are a number of newly-developed countries that are recently flush with cash and giving it away to HAMAS by the carload ('foreign donations'). Turkey could be one of them. Russia might be another. Then there's Malaysia. I wouldn't be surprised if Brazil turned out to be among the foreign donors.

But, we'll find out which countries the money IS coming from in time.

Stopping the flow of cash to terrorists is another matter, however.

It was kind of "labayk" to use Eela, Baitul Maqdas and al-Qods as his names for Jerusalem. None of these names is Arabic or Muslim in origin. Eela [correctly Iliya] was the name that the Arabs used for Jerusalem in the early period after their conquest of the Holy City. Eela comes from Aelia, the name given to Jerusalem by Emperor Hadrian after his legions --including Arabs-- had suppressed the Jewish Bar Kokhba revolt in 135 CE. The first Arab coins minted in Jerusalem after the Arab conquest bear the name Iliya for the city. Aelia comes from Hadrian's clan name [gentilic] Aelius. Hadrian's full name for the city was Aelia Capitolina, shortened in common usage to Aelia.

Baitul Maqdas and al-Quds both come from Hebrew, and refer to the Temple and the city's holiness. Beyt haMiqdash is the usual Hebrew name for the Temple, and later was used by Jews as a name for the city of Jerusalem in the period before the Arab conquest. Al-Quds comes from the Hebrew haQodesh referring to the holiness of the city. We say in Hebrew, Yerushalayim `ir haQodesh = Jerusalem, city of Holiness, OR city of the holy place. Another, closely related theory holds that al-Quds comes from an Aramaic form Qudsha, which was in turn derived from haQodesh. If it is not clear by now, haQodesh formed and forms part of a Hebrew name for Jerusalem. By the way, another Arabic name for Jerusalem is Urshalim al-Quds.

Before I close, "labayk" ought to realize that Arab/Muslim control of Israel kept Jews in the status of exiles who could return only with difficulty to their own homeland. They were exiles, whereas even the Jews living in the country were like exiles in their own land, as Chateaubriand pointed out. Thus, the Arabs/Muslims were part of the cause of oppression and persecution of the Jews over the centuries. In any case, "labayk" who seems to adore Comrade Nasrallah, ought to study the dhimma condition of Jews and Christians and others in Muslim-ruled lands, in order to appreciate what Muslim oppression was like. The plight of the dhimma goes on. Consider the Copts in Egypt.
