Oddly enough, this AP story actually mentions "Muslims." Perhaps the censor had gone to retrieve his liverwurst sandwich, and this one slipped through. "Rioting youths burn hundreds of cars in France: Authorities upbeat despite violence marking anniversary of ’05 unrest," from AP, with thanks to Andrea:
CLICHY-SOUS-BOIS, France - Marauding youths torched hundreds of vehicles overnight and on Saturday in renewed violence coinciding with the first anniversary of riots that exposed a deep schism between poor North African immigrants and mainstream France.A group of teenagers set one bus on fire Saturday in the southern French port city of Marseille, seriously wounding a passenger. Three others suffered from smoke inhalation, police said. Two other public buses and 277 vehicles around the country were burned overnight, police said.
Six police were injured and 47 people were arrested, ministry officials said. Still the Interior Ministry described the night as “relative calm,” noting that up to 100 cars are torched by youths in troubled neighborhoods on an average night.
Police had braced for a bigger replay of violence in the poor suburbs predominantly made up of Muslims from former French colonies in Africa. Friday marked the one-year anniversary of the deaths of two teens that ignited three weeks of riots in 2005.
The rioting was fueled by anger at France’s failure to offer equal opportunities to many minorities — especially Arabs and blacks — and France’s 5 million-strong Muslim population.
France’s trouble integrating minorities and the suburban unrest are becoming hot political issues in the campaign for next year’s presidential and parliamentary elections. The government passed an equal opportunities law this spring and has poured funds into “sensitive” areas, but disenchantment is still pervasive....
Hmm. You mean they've given the rioters money and favorable treatment, and that still hasn't solved the problem? Do you think maybe it springs from the ideology of Islamic supremacism, and not from poverty at all?
“Four guys attacked Bus 346,” said witness Thierry Ange, 19. “They made everyone get off, then they hit a woman and dragged out the bus driver by his tie,” then torched the bus with a gasoline bomb in a bottle, he said. The blackened remains of another bus burned earlier stood across town. Two armed men had forced passengers off the bus, police said.
Youths also tried to burn a bus in Reims in eastern France, and attackers hurled metal balls at an empty bus in Trappes, west of Paris, the Interior Ministry said.
Scores of police, wielding shields and backed by a helicopter shining its searchlight, swept into a tough housing project in Montfermeil, a town near Clichy-sous-Bois, and several youths responded by throwing stones.
Paris’ transport authority responded to the violence by curtailing bus services in the Seine-Saint-Denis region north of the capital, which is home to thousands of immigrants and their French-born children.
And thus Paris slides toward Third World conditions.

I have a two-word solution to this problem: "Benes-Masaryk". These youths cannot and willnot integrate intofrench society. They may be poor and unemployed, but who in their right mind wants to employ violent and uneducated criminal scum like this? Who could trust them? They are responsible for where they are now. They have given themselves a bad reputation. They give nothing to France, only crime, and it would save a fortune, not to mention civilization itself, if they and their entire families were sent back to Morocco, Algeria etc, at gunpoint if necesary.

Why have the French gone so soft?
When I was kid the CRS were a very aggressive and scary force to deal with. They came after you and if they got within a couple of feet of you during a riot you got your head busted open and a good kicking.
Maybe that's what is needed now.

Mr CHIRAC like most of western politicians are only puppets in hands of financial and industrial powerful people .It is true for USA as well as Europe . Candidates for major election are strictly selected for their submission to those powerful people .Their costful campaigns are paid by those people. If not all of them are members of some nasty and idiot freemansonry sects , they must at least be useful to those sects .
In Western countries , the so-called Democracy has turned to be a facade .Politicians has no real power on economics anymore as Economic Nobel awarded Maurice ALLAIS explained .
Mr CHIRAC is a member of a freemansonry called " Loge du Grand Orient " whom 25% members are jewish and especially anti-zionist and pro-immigrationist Jewish .
All those Freemansons are stupid people dreaming of a secularian and multicultural europe .Subsequently they are useful idiots for Financial and Industrial companies who needs low-paid immigrated labors to compete on global market plus does want a free access to a huge Euro-mediteranean market for their products .US companies and Europe companies see people as simple idiot consumers ignoring religious antagonism .
For many multinational companies ,Muslim world with its huge birthrate is an future consumers eldorado .Not saying how much western countries are oil-addicted and therefore dependant to Muslim world .
While Saudis are screwing USA whom President Roosevelt ignorantly swore to support "Wahabism" in exhange of access to oil-fields , the Algerians are screwing France with its Gaz-contract .
Last year when the Muslim riots were raging (mostly algerian descendants ), the Foreign Affair minister and Thierry Desmaret ( TOTAL oil company chief executive ) were in alger dealing a important gaz-field contract with algerian president Bouteflika .
So long France , like most western countries , will be ruled by stupid bastards who serves multinational companies craving for benefits in arab countries , instead of serving the everyday people , the muslims can burn as many cars , bus and whatever they want .
Politicians won't have the balls to kill those Muslim nasty rats and then pay a visit to Arab countries with Companies Chief executives to deal important contract for TOTAL , AIRBUS and so on .
Like it or not i really doubt USA officials would react differently should Exxon , Boeing ..have huge business prospects in Algeria , Marocco ..
It is time to vote for strong-hand men who does want to retake the reins .

Until France, or any country facing radical Islam, manages to correctly identify that radical Islam, that is Islam itself, their religion and subsequent interpretation of that religion, is the primary cause of terrorism in the 21st century, we, as a world, can not even begin to stop this madness.
How many deaths will future historians lay at the feet of todays' political and religious leaders? How many must die or be enslaved according to one peoples' perception of what Allah's divine law is? Unable to convince the people of planet Earth through the use of reason and logic, they resort to violence. They have no place in civilized society, and yet, we continue to welcome them with open arms.
Truly, our children's children, if the human race even still exists at that point, will curse our generation for failing to deal with radicial Islam. We will be known as the "ordinary humans who, saying nothing and doing nothing, were the willing exectioners of Islamic Jihad."

Sending the police in to fix this problem is like treating cancer with a band-aid.
Yesterday, the family when to Border's and sat at the Cafe for a while. A self-described Palestinean man sat down next to us with his tutor. He is learning French. He repeatedly apologized to his teacher for his undisciplined study habits but will be a better student for next week's lesson. My wife (non political) found it creepy when they started talking about Israel in very hushed tones.

I love it how the "relative calm" baseline for cars getting torched in Paris is 100 a night, haha! That my friends is a governement and continent in denial if I've ever seen one. French law states that at this point the French Armed Forces are supposed to overthrow the elected government and declare marshal law (i.e. Military Law) will be put in place of Civil Law.
The French Civilian Police have already reported publicly that they regard the nation's situation to be one of Civil War.
The French government will be given a Period of Grace in which to decide whether or not the Government will order the Armed Forces to intervene alongside the Civilian Police Forces...
...Mother Ecclesiastica
I imagine the military in every nation have a duty to intervene when faced with such anarchy.
I hope you are correct about France, the sooner

Very perceptive post. I have expounded a similar thesis of the two totalitarian threats that face freedom loving people in the world, namely, Islamism and and economic globalism. Chirac, like Bush, is a democratic storefront dummy who tows the line of multinational corporations which are the real creators of American foreign policy. Chirac and Bush are controlled manniquens and thus will not react properly to the world wide Jiahd even if it stands burning in their faces. Many of my comrades on this site do not accept this point of view.

Kojak; In the 1960s, a part of Madison, Wisconsin declared its cessation from the United States and the tenants refused to pay rent, taxes, etc. The landlords hired the Hells Angels to protect their property rights, and the government gave tacit approval. The offenders either moved elsewhere or learned to appreciate the benefits of civilized society. It took hours, not days for them to see the light.
Prediction: Private Military Organizations (PMOs) will have bright future in Europe.

The French are a bunch of pc, passive crepe eaters, except when it comes to creating political difficulty for the UK or USA. So now they have 5 million Muslims? Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of folks.
They need to arrest every one of those 'youths' that are caught rioting and present them with an IMMEDIATE one-way ticket back to Africa/ME. They should also deny them entrance into France in future.
In fact, the EU should make a USEFUL law (for a change) and say that anyone who has been arrested in this type of behaviour should be banned from entrance into all of Europe in future.
How long will Europeans put up with this? An iron fist response is LONG overdue.

at October 29, 2006 12:55 PM
Carolyn2,
Earlier reporters must get more freedom. One plus to the net is it weakens the impact of the MSM, today we have access to more information than ever before. The days of listening to one station and reading one newspaper are over. They have to realize this as their profit shrink and audiences seek information elsewhere. You can not conduct a search without finding opposing views. That is a good thing, is forces us to evaluate our own position. The enemy of oppression is truth, look at the amount of money the muslims spend trying to control the media. If a third of that money were given to improve the world islam might have a fighting chance to convince people it is a real religion governed by people who care about their flock. Instead they build giant mosques which are empty and spend lavishly on themselves and “educational material” designed to hook another generation.
The government of france is weak, its people can not walk the street in safety. Freedom of speech doesn’t apply. Any at attempt at rebellion and a follower of the religion of peace will kill you and burn your stuff.
So far france has become the worlds biggest advertisement for pro gun control. france will live to regret selling billions of dollars in weapons to muslims. They should have armed themselves. I keep hearing that police are being injured in the riots and property being damaged. What I want to see are stories about people fighting back. Why aren’t the morgues full of dead “youths”? I realize guns are hard to find, buses are not, drive into them and back over them a few hundred times (they have hard heads). Do something other than ask an imam to please control them. I really have a long tolerance for BS but if I lived in france there would be plenty of those youths on milk cartons.
Based on what I have read the only thing I can do to help france is ask them how many white flags they need.
at October 29, 2006 12:57 PM
"If this were to happen here in the USA there would be a large number of new martyrs."
Kojak, it won't happen here because most of us own firearms and would be more than willing to introduce some buckshot into their behinds if they started trying to burn our cars or bust windows in our shops.
If they want a 'civil war' here, they'll get one, but it won't last long.

Simon, you're correct. In fact, I blame Chirac for every one of our soldiers that die in Iraq. If Chirac and Putin, etc. had not been more interested in their 'deals' with Saddam, they would have been prepared to go to war with us and this would have been sorted. Instead, they threw their tantrums.
As for now? Well, we have Russia and China preventing us from doing anything with Iran because of their 'deals' with Iran.
Why hasn't the security council dealt with the Sudan? Because China and Pakistan have big investments there.
It's ALWAYS about money. Ah, but before the Iraq war, in Europe, we saw the pulpits being used for an anti-war agenda - like the French actually gave a damn about the Iraqi people? They would have been happy to turn a blind eye all day to Saddam gassing the Kurds if it meant keeping their dirty oil for food deals with Saddam.
Nothing will change until we can sweep out ALL of our politicians and put in people who love this country. Unfortunately, big business and those who stand to gain by the status quo will never allow it to happen.

at October 29, 2006 1:19 PM
There are major differences between a police response and a military one. The police version of crowd control requires the crowd to be pushed back into a controlled area and disbanded, a cooling off period is encouraged and the solution to major riots can takes days or weeks. The military’s job (this does not include french military) is to advance toward the sound of the fire and kill everything between them. Crowd control is attempted only when the populace is considered neutral or friendly. The safety of civilians is always considered but mission accomplishment can delay that, especially if the crowd is expected to side with the enemy. Look at the battles of fullijah as an example, we first asked the civilians to leave and then the troops entered the city to burn it, crush it and flatten it (we called it liberating it). Any civilian left in the city was considered hostile and they seemed bent on proving it.
Martial law is required when the police forces can not control the situation, france knows what it needs to do but is far more scared of international condemnation than it is worried about protecting its citizens. This will not change until the riots move into areas occupied by the “elite’s of french society” threaten and burn out the rich and the politicians will be forced to act. As long as the poor areas are attacked you can just give offers to rebuild and you don’t actually have to solve the problem.
This is not a civil war it is an invasion, only one side is fighting and so far the UN has not asked for peacekeepers (Americans) so looks like france as a nation will soon be just a bad memory. I would love to know if the “elite’s” take holidays in other parts of europe when the youths act up.

Anything that can disrupt, or damage, be it forest fires, standing up and making people paranoid on planes, or filing lawsuits on behalf of people associated with terrorists will make the Infidels incur costs.

In the first six months of 2006, some 21,000 cars were burnt and 2,882 attacks recorded against the police, fire and ambulance services. - REUTERS
Doing the math, it's actually 116 cars burnt daily and that's not taking into consideration the recent uptick in numbers.
The rioting that began one year ago has apparently NEVER STOPPED. The French consider that 100+ burnt cars daily are "normal" or "expected"...no big deal...also reflected by the scant media coverage.
Nowhere is it more evident, the veracity of the immortal quote from Groundskeeper Willie from The Simpsons when describing the French as, "Cheese eating surrender monkeys".

Looks like the French police aren't going to do anything meaningful until the yoots show up on Avenue Foch or Place Wagram.
When the mobs look like they're going to torch an embassy or some architectural treasure, the French politicians will whine a little about "protecting the culture" just like they did when they talked about banning English words like "drugstore" and "bluejeans" a decade ago. The police will march, form a line, get beaten up, swing some sticks, but they will not open fire.
Have you seen the uniforms of the French policemen on television? Don't they remind you of the stylish uniforms of the French firemen we saw LAST year? I think they were all produced in the same fashion house that must have produced the uniforms of the Hezbollah in Lebanon. Nicely cut, with tasteful color and done Just So. With the French, it is the STYLE and FLAIR that matter.
Everything else is met with a shrug of the shoulders. Even Chirac can be seen doing this in his interviews.
Frenchmen, hide your women!! The barbarians are inside the gates!!
at October 29, 2006 10:03 PM
Borg, your second video clip is, of course, taken during the race riots in Los Angeles after the Rodney King beating trial in which the police officers were acquited.
This is instructive. After a few days of rioting, looting, and torching of businesses, the governor called out the National Guard. It's a good thing the rioters were tired by then, because what the video fails to show is that the National Guard was not given an "Arming Order" and, consequently, did not have any ammunition!!
Under U.S. law, the Guard must have an Arming Order to operate with firearms, and since these troops had none, the ammunition was still safely locked up at an armory for several days. The troops had empty weapons.
Of course, immediately upon the first reports of riots, the local government sprang into action with some emergency laws. They banned the sale of weapons, ammunition, and liquor. This had no effect on rioters, who were more than happy to break windows and take what they wanted, but some shop owners were thereby deprived of the right (and expectation) of being able to defend their property.
Many of the shops were owned by ethnic Koreans and Vietnamese. The locals did not want those "crummy jobs" for "slave wages" so it was innocent Koreans and Vietnamese whose properties and inventories were destroyed. The blowback was that with the businesses destroyed, there were very few places to cash the welfare checks. Enter the minority congressperson, who made TV points by criticizing the banks and businesses.
Such are the unintended and mostly unforseen consequences when things start to break down. I am still amazed that anybody actually expects the government to help when the spaghetti hits the fan in a really big way.
For a further example, I talked to one Army Major who served as a General's aide and whose Texas unit was deployed to help in the Hurricane Katrina aftermath. Upon leaving Louisiana, at the end of their mission, they stopped on the way back to wash and clean their vehicles of the mud and grime. The governor ordered them not to stop, on the theory that cleaning the vehicles would polute the environment. This being the mud they picked up.
This is the kind of idiot we have throughout government. Why? Because everybody is equal and undeserving people can vote themselves benefits by electing people who will give away the store.
France has the same problem, but worse. Socialism has progressed in France so far that no Frenchmen have any principles.
Unfortunately, the muslims DO have principles. We don't like those principles, but we have to admit that muslims know what they want and they are going after it relentlessly.
