Iran says nuke program is near complete

Quick, set another deadline at the UN before they finish: Maybe this one will work! By Ali Akbar Dareini for The Associated Press:

TEHRAN, Iran - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday that Iran would soon celebrate completion of its nuclear fuel program and claimed the international community was ready to accept it as a nuclear state.
[...]
"Initially, they (the U.S. and its allies) were very angry. The reason was clear: They basically wanted to monopolize nuclear power in order to rule the world and impose their will on nations," Ahmadinejad told a news conference.
"Today, they have finally agreed to live with a nuclear Iran, with an Iran possessing the whole nuclear fuel cycle," he said. He did not elaborate.
President Bush said Monday there was no change in his position that Iran must first suspend uranium enrichment before there can be any dialogue with Tehran.
"Our focus of this administration is to convince the Iranians to give up its nuclear weapons ambitions. That focus is based on our strong desire for there to be peace in the Middle East. And an Iran with a nuclear weapon would be a destabilizing influence," Bush said Monday.
The Iranian leader said he hoped "to hold the big celebration of Iran's full nuclearization in the current year." Iran's current calendar year ends on March 20.
Though Ahmadinejad did not specify, he appeared to indicate that Iran was on the verge of proficiency in the whole cycle of nuclear fuel — from extracting uranium ore to enriching it and producing nuclear fuel.
Russia, which is backed by China, opposes tough action advocated by the U.S., Britain and France, and its amendments to a Western draft resolution would reduce sanctions and delete language that would cut off Iran's access to foreign missile technology.
The U.S. and some of its allies allege that Iran is developing nuclear weapons and are suspicious of its intentions after Tehran concealed parts of its nuclear development from U.N. inspectors for many years.
[...]
Iran has said it will never give up its right under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty to enrich uranium and produce nuclear fuel. Officials have said they plan to generate 20,000 megawatts of electricity through nuclear energy in the next two decades.
Since revelations more than three years ago of a covert uranium enrichment program, Iran has moved to develop its capabilities, activating two small experimental enrichment plants and enriching small amounts of uranium to nuclear fuel level. Although that is far short of the weapons grade uranium that could be used for nuclear warheads, international concerns about Tehran's ultimate intentions led the Security Council to set an Aug. 31 deadline for an enrichment moratorium — which Tehran has ignored. Officials have said they plan to have 3,000 centrifuges operating by next year — enough to make enough material for several nuclear weapons a year.
Suspicions also are focused on Tehran's construction of a heavy water reactor that — when completed in the next decade — will produce plutonium waste, another pathway to nuclear weapons.

Unfortunatley the West (and the world for that matter) will do absolutley nothing to stop Iran from going totally nuclear. It will take several hundred thousand dead before before those who could have stopped those hundreds of thousand deaths to make a move and do something. basically its come to "go ahead and use your nuke irans, then we will nuke you back"...Irans'leadership could give a rip, all the more martyrs for Allah if Iranians citizens die arther those citizens like it or not.

Previously Ahmadinejad has stated that Iran could
absorb large casualties in any conflict.
He should be told in no uncertain terms the use
of nuclear weapons by them or terrorists on
the West or Israel that NO Iranian will survive
the retaliation on them.
The Syrians are doomed anyway , doesn`t it say
so in the Bible ?

THE U.S. POSSIBLY WITH ISRAEL WILL COMPLETELY DESTROY DAMASCUS SYRIA. ISAIAH 17 :1-7
1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

I worry for Israel and I think Israel has just gotta look out for number 1 (quit being influenced by the USA's restraint policy) and become very aggressive on it's own, because with Iran every day talking about Israel's destruction along with it's nuke development, Israel can't afford to count on anyone else protecting it. It would be hopeful to wish that someone would come through for it, but to count on it at this point is too risky. I wish it weren't the case, but I am afraid the USA is going to abandoned those in Iraq leaving more wide open game for the likes of Syria and Iran's scope to clean up in all directions. As an American I worry about terrorism all over, but watching how the world is turning their back on Israel is most painful and although I know in my heart that God will protect it, from this viewpoint now; it looks like it might not be from it's past trusted allies. Perhaps this is the lesson: That God fearing nations will turn their trust away from man's promised politics long enough to cry out to "The One" that can really protect them.

Early reports from the IAEA indicate that they have already found traces of plutonium in Iran:

Pakistan is one of the most unstable countries in the world. It is a military dictatorship. Its population is virulently against democracy and considers the West and US as enemies and satans.

Pakistan is the worst proliferator of nuclear technology in the world and has bestowed the highest state honour on the scientist who supplied the knowhow to the most despicable regimes in the world. In Taliban, it has been the creator and now sustainer of the worst bunch of terrorists of the modern era. Its military and secret service supplies, trains and exports mass murderers throughout the world. It is responsible for almost all the terrorist carnage inflicted on its neighbour.

Pakistan is also the conduit of over a third of Afghan heroin producing poppies. It silences, exiles and imprisons its critics at home and it has one of the worst human rights records.

In short, it is a hellhole. Something out of Mad Max movie.

And yes, it has the nuclear bomb, produced with the help of China - another paragon of virtuous and free society.

And guess what - It is a very good friend of USA. Today it is a big receipent of substantial military hardware, intelligence and economic aid than any other sworn enemy of America.

Can someone please remind me again of the sanctions imposed on Pakistan by the USA and what happened to them? So, maybe after Iran explodes its nuclear bomb, it will also become a good friend of the good old US of A.

There is a massive concentration of US naval power in the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea. Three US naval strike groups off the Iranian coastline are deployed: USS Enterprise, USS Eisenhower and USS Iwo Jima Expeditionary Strike Group.
The naval strike groups have been assigned to fighting the "global war on terrorism."
"Reports say the US-led naval exercises based near Bahrain will practise intercepting and searching ships carrying weapons of mass destruction and missiles.

Imagine the reaction if Bush were to go to Congress and request authorization for air-power. He is on the record about preventing Iran from getting the bomb, it would be nice to have congress’ backing, and he has doubleplusnomore elections to worry about.

If he gets the vote, he gets the vote. If he doesn’t, the Democrats are on record when something goes boom, and he reserves the option in case of ‘emergency’, or if he decides to save his successor the call in eighteen months.

The attacks would cause a surge in Middle East violence. It may even cause cells in the West to become active. But I don’t buy the theory that its better to fight them over there exclusively. Blood in the Western Street would show the electorate the true face of the Muslim immigration. And it would end as we know it. The sooner the better.

The US has an extremely formidable and active arsonal (2004 list) of nuclear weapons that are both strategic and non-strategic and can be found almost anyplace on the face of the planet.

The US airforce alone carries over 1,200 nuclear bombs as payloads everyday and the kilotons range from 10 to 1,200 kilotons, One bomb known as the B61-11 is an earth penetrating nuclear bomb that has from 10 kilotons to 350 kilotons of nuclear force.

Submarine-launched ballistic missiles maybe one of the most formidable forces on the planet with the fleet carrying almost 3,600 Trident missiles with kiloton ratings of from 100 to 475 kilotons of nuclear force.

Intercontinental ballistic missiles which are usually in the Minuteman III category make up an arsenal of of over 1,200 missiles with warheads delivering up to 920 kilotons.

Air-launched nuclear cruise missiles that can be deployed on a moments notice operate with a force of more than 1,800 missiles that have from 5 to 150 kilotons on power.

The US NON-STRATEGIC FORCES nuclear weapons represent an almost equal amount as the strategic weapons.

GOD FORBID that we may have to use even one of these bombs, or missiles to protect this nation or any nation from the never ending sabre rattling of the fanaticism of a country like Iran.

Mackie,

Very impressive list of deadly arsenal. But can it help to locate one nomad hiding in a cave?

Posted by: Hermit [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 14, 2006 4:40 PM

Ground invasion of Iran may cost us fewer lives. Why? Because the more forces of ours we can use, the more things we can do. On the other hand, the Iranians don't go up in ability to project power outside Iran by adding their ground forces.

Its sort of like a probability argument in physics or economics. Opening up ground force operations increases our good combinations much faster than theirs.

They want to use their missiles to hit our ships, and their subs. Our ground forces can go after their missiles. They will try to hold some stuff back if we bomb.

If we bomb, we have to hold ground forces there indefinitely to respond to anything they try later. We can't build up our ground forces, bomb, then rotate our ground forces out. They just wait until we are at low strength to respond.

We don't want them holding back missiles to use on our carriers. Once we strike them, we want to find every weapon capable of hitting our ships or any ships in the Gulf. That really requires a ground invasion.

Question for every one: If a neighbor (whom you don't like) fires a high caliber automatic rifle at you but you and your home are armored enough to easily plink off such bullets - do you return fire?

Hmmm.

...and missile defense technology is just keeps roaring along.

http://www.missilethreat.com/systems/

I believe that at a point in the future, none too soon I hope, we will have developed a truly formidable missile defense system...and a formidably merciless defense contingency regarding terrorist nukes within our borders.

Given the state of technological growth, who our enemies are and what may occur in the future, missile defense should be strong enough deter hundreds if incoming missiles. The question then is, once an enemy launches against the US and thus make its intentions known - does the US then nuke it's enemy to remove an enemies will to attack?

Will there be dancing in the streets and rock concerts starring Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, wooing us with his most favorite love song?

We're caught in a trap
I cant walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Why cant you see
What youre doing to me
When you dont believe a word I say?

We cant go on together
With suspicious minds
And we cant build our dreams
On suspicious minds

So, if an old friend I know
Drops by to say hello
Would I still see suspicion in your eyes?

Here we go again
Asking where Ive been
You cant see these tears are real
Im crying

We cant go on together
With suspicious minds
And we cant build our dreams
On suspicious minds

Oh let our love survive
Or dry the tears from your eyes
Lets dont let a good thing die

When honey, you know
Ive never lied to you
Mmm yeah, yeah

I wonder what the vast majority of Iranians think of this development. The US should have been undermining Iran's criminal regime for years now-had it done so this might have been the time for a coup. Instead, the US has shaken its fist impotently for almost 30 years while Iran laughs at it and keeps striking at the US at all levels. I think Israel will have to make a move soon-my guess is that it will have to strike preemptively and hope the US finishes off the process. If that does happen the US had BETTER finish the process of eliminating Tehran's insane regime-otherwise Isreal will indeed be finished after being stabbed in the back by its ally.

Stupid , stupid question...the Israelis are
sane , rational and want to live in peace and
would only use nuclear weapons as a last resort.
The difference between the West and Islamic nations is we have WMDs and do not want to use them.
If the Islamic nations had them and we did not
they would not think twice about using them !

Ramon,

In the US, we (many citizens)have decided that certain people through their past conduct are not allowed to own or even touch a firearm.

I stopped by doctor bulldogs blog on the way here and posted part of this, it fits here as well.

Iran and president prophet ackmynadsareinajar are not the only muslim governments attempting to develop “peaceful” nuclear energy. They are just the loudest. While we watch and coddle them, what are the others doing? The UN has no power and can never regain it. Once they allowed sanctions to be thwarted and member states to violate policy with no punishment they became just a propaganda tool. They have no power we do not give them. If we had real leadership we wouldn’t pullout of the UN, we have to stay to watch them and veto as much of their stupidity as possible but we could punish them. The US need not supply them with funds, troops or help with natural disasters (and man made ones) they (the UN) would survive with help from other member states but wouldn’t be able to do nearly as much damage. Our support should only go to our allies, never enemies. Which it seems is a majority of the planet.

The reality of the US arsenal is we have multiple safeguards to stop anyone from launching a first strike. I don’t think we have limits on a response. In a pinch our politicians are weak if senior leadership didn’t respond to a strike on us, for any reason, no phone lines, radio etc, the military would take over the response. Having worn the uniform I can tell you we are firm believers in payback and overkill. More and more of our military are waking up, don’t fool your selves into thinking they don’t already have a list of potential glass lakes.

My fear is not if but when.

Ramon, my child.

Iran will be granted permission to won nukes, after and only after said nation has for 1350 years consistently demonstrated they have embraced The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted and proclaimed by General Assembly of the United Nations, resolution 217 A (III) of 10 December 1948.

How many times has Iran publically threatened to wipe out another country? Several times.

The sad part is iran’s president prophet really seems to believe Israel will be wiped out. He is wrong of course, even if he destroyed its cities and killed most of the Israelis in Israel he couldn’t kill them all. He fails to realize there are large populations of Jews worldwide a new Israel would rise from the ashes as would a new iran because we would shortly eliminate the old one. The worst he could do is go down as one of histories biggest madmen and although that would make him a muslim hero it would not truly be the end of Israel. If he was really the muslim savor sent to wipe out Israel and bring on the mahdi why is he having such a hard time of it? It appears allah is not blessing his efforts. I don’t know who that idiot really talks to but I am sure it is not a divine deity. It would leave quite a legacy, the murderer of a country state and the cause of the destruction of his own people.

Posted by: Ronin [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 14, 2006 7:39 PM

One thing can be said of A-Nut. He is a damn good Muslim. He emulates Mr. Perfect quite well when it comes to delusions. Mo said "Allah" gave him the Koran. A-Nut says he has a line to the Mahdi and Israel will be wiped out. All delusions. Islam is based on delusional thinking and it has continued to belch out delusions for 1400 years. The West lives in the real world, Islam lives in a fantasy world. One can only hope the rational ones outlast the delusional ones.

Take yourself to a small place called Imperial Japan. See the destruction? See the horde of death? See the only thing that could bring everything that you ever knew to a complete hault. Imagine that, in your home town, in every city that you hold. Imagine nukes for sale, all over the world. Who puts the reigns on that horse? Some of us believe that nukes are some nasty things. Some of you think that nukes are the next best thing. When a nuke goes off in your neck of the woods, call me and tell me , nuclear proliferation is a God given right.

What does the destruction visited on Hiroshima and Nagasaki have to do with today's peril? The Japanese started a war that their Bushido code would not allow them to end. I have seen on two occasions a picture of Cologne and another of Tokyo where they were mis-captioned as being pictures of Hiroshima. Nuclear weapons just do with one bomb what the Eighth Air Force and the RAF took a few days and nights to do.

Up until now nucular weapons have been in the hands of some sensible people. Yes, even with all the rhetoric, the Soviets and Chinese were sensible people when it came to nuclear destruction. The problem is, Ahmadinijad thinks that we will continue this "talk" until he wins. He will win - unless he is taught a lesson that he and every Muslim will never forget.

If a nuclear blast or two (or more) is what it takes to end the Islamazation of this planet, well, it will just have to be.

ISRAEL WILL ACT

The United States has the luxury of ceasely asking disinterested European and Asian countries to give Iran a big tongue-lashing and perhaps some inconsequential economic sanctions.

Israel, on the other hand, is racing the clock for the literal survival of their nation.

While Iran flips off the entire world and openly develops a modern nuclear arsenal, they also very openly and explicitly predict that "Israel will be blown off the map." Give those radical rodents a nuclear bomb and it won't just sit there collecting detent dust; they will use it!

I suspect Israel within a few months time will take out all of the known nuclear facilities in Iran and it will start a diplomatic incident unlike any we've seen in recent decades.

Posted by: Tookson [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 15, 2006 12:00 AM

The world is ignoring Israel's nukes

What surprises us is that at a time when the International Atomic Energy Agency is intensifying its efforts and monitoring (NPT) members countries ... we see that it continues to ignore the rejection of Israel in not joining the treaty

Posted by: Ramon [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 15, 2006 7:55 AM

Take a wild guess why the world ignores Israel's alleged nuclear weapons... Because they don't threaten anyone. They are not a crazy muslim theocracy hell-bent on world domination.

Every time a Muslim or communist nation builds another nuke the world edges closer to the brink of devastation. It is because of their ideology. The expand their influence only through war, revolution and bloodshed of those who disagree. That is what we call "evil" in the real world. If Iran abandoned Islam do you really think anyone would give a rats behind that they were developing nuclear technology. It's just because they are both crazy and evil that it is such a threat.

Posted by: Tookson [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 15, 2006 11:00 AM

Ramon -

It's like you're comparing apples to oranges; or in this case, apples to sour grapes. These two countries do NOT have the same objectives.

Israel would use nukes for offensive/defensive means, but Iran has already stated their evil intentions, and that's to DESTROY ISRAEL, when Israel has done nothing but "exist"!
