U.S. prosecutors deny Padilla's torture charges

When Al-Qaeda operatives are jailed, they are told to claim that they have been tortured. From the Al-Qaeda playbook:

1. At the beginning of the trial, once more the brothers must insist on proving that torture was inflicted on them by State Security [investigators ]before the judge.

2. Complain [to the court] of mistreatment while in prison.

3. Make arrangements for the brother ’s defense with the attorney, whether he was retained by the brother ’s family or court-appointed.

4. The brother has to do his best to know the names of the state security officers, who participated in his torture and mention their names to the judge.[These names may be obtained from brothers who had to deal with those officers in previous cases.]...

6. During the trial, the court has to be notified of any mistreatment of the brothers inside the prison.

From the Chicago Tribune, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:

MIAMI, FLORIDA -- Federal prosecutors on Monday denied claims by suspected Al Qaeda operative Jose Padilla that he was tortured during his 3 1/2 years in military custody as an enemy combatant.

In papers filed in federal court, prosecutors said Padilla, 36, provided no evidence to back up his claims and urged that the case against the former Chicago gang member not be dismissed based on his allegations. They insisted that Padilla was treated humanely while in a Navy brig in South Carolina.

"Padilla's allegations of torture have no merit whatsoever," prosecutors said.

Padilla's lawyers last month asked a federal judge to dismiss the terrorism support charges against him based on their allegations that he suffered from "outrageous government conduct" while in military custody for more than 1,300 days.

The only torture is that he didn't die and get his 72 virgins. Yup, I've heard about them prisons... He must have been, "tortured" 72 times by his cellmate, "Bubba..."

I know what should be done with "the brothers", but I would only be deleted if I said so. It would not be pretty though.

One of the biggest and most glaring differences between Islam and the Judeo/Christian faiths is the reguard for truth.
Christ said Satan was the Father of all lies. Islam uses lies like they invented them.
Islam is and always will be a forign belief system to civilised humans for whom truth must prevail.

l guess his stubbed toe does not pass for torture. the only torture around, is that he is still breathing.

Given what a group of sissies and bullies we're dealing with, stubbing a toe is classified as "torture" in the Mo playbook. Heck, too bad he's not some inmate's girlfriend. That's about as close to 72 virgins he'll EVER get.

I think that they should be required to produce four witnesses before torture could be proven.

Posted by: Pelayo [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 15, 2006 6:50 PM

That would be four non-Muslim witnesses.

The torture was keeping him locked up where he can't engage in assisting Al Qaeda in jihad against the U.S. Poor guy, I hope he isn't permanently damaged.

Seriously, I think that laws regarding bringing frivolous charges to court need to be stiffened, and brought to bear upon lawyers, who are supposed to know better. If you or your client has no evidence to support his charges, or if it's shot full of holes, you've got NO BUSINESS wasting the court's time and resources. This is the jihad of legal quagmire. It needs to be recognized for what it is, and at some point lawyers engaging in such stuff need to be brought up on charges of giving material assistance to enemy combattants. Ther is a clear distinction between such tactics and providing proper legal counsel. Surely the Bar Association should be ready to take action in such cases, if the courts won't.

Since they are always going to come up with such "claims" might as well lend veracity to such claims in the beginning itself , by torturing enough , so that they can access their alleged 72 raisins. Soon the surviving "brothers" would queue up to join them.

Criminal charges against accused al-Qaida operative Jose Padilla should be thrown out because of "outrageous government conduct" during his 3½-year detention in a U.S. Navy brig in South Carolina, Padilla's defense lawyers say. "The government's conduct vis-a-vis Mr. Padilla is a stain on this nation's character, and through its illegal conduct, the government has forfeited its right to prosecute Mr. Padilla," his lawyers said in a legal motion filed this week.

Lies and deception are all part of Islam . It is o.k. for a Muslim to lie cheat or make any deal or treaty with the full intent on breaking the deal , IF IT BENEFITS ISLAM. most o the injustices hey cry about in the middle east are self inflicted . even if a prisoner was humanely treated and given full dignity in prison, i still believe they would lie about it cause it benefits the cause to do so. we can't believe a word that comes out of any mouth in the Mid east. and we all know that Muslim prisoners are much better off and recieve far better treatmentthan they ever would under Islamic law .

They will lie to attain their goals. why believe anything they say?

May 8, 2005 marked the third anniversary of the illegal imprisonment of Jose Padilla.

Padilla was apprehended at O' Hare Airport in 2002 by Federal officers under the shaky
"material witness" provision and trundled off to
prison. In a conspicuous effort to poison public opinion, Attorney General John Ashcroft announced on national TV that Padilla was
conspiring to set off a "dirty bomb" (radioactive device) within the United Sates. To date, the government has never produced a scintilla of evidence to corroborate their spurious claims. Simply put, Padilla is innocent of all charges.
