Hizballah said it would topple the government. Is it making its move now? "Lebanese Christian politician killed," from AP, with thanks to Paula:
BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) -- Prominent anti-Syrian Christian politician Pierre Gemayel was assassinated in a suburb of Beirut on Tuesday, his party's radio station reported. His fatal shooting will certainly heighten the political tension in Lebanon, where the leading Muslim Shiite party Hezbollah has threatened to topple the government if he does not get a bigger say in Cabinet decision making.
Gemayel was rushed to a nearby hospital seriously wounded, the Lebanese Broadcasting Corp. and Voice of Lebanon, the Phalange Party's radio station, reported.
The party radio later said he was dead.
Gemayel, the minister of industry and son of former President Amin Gemayel, was a member of the Phalange party and supporter of the anti-Syrian parliamentary majority, which is locked in a power struggle with pro-Syrian factions led by Hezbollah.

Like Gibran Tueni, one more martyr for the cause...As usual a feeble attempt by Syria and its scum sucking supporters in Hizballah to get inter confessional conflict stirring. Hopefully, the powers that be will not take the bait and this young man will be laid to rest peacfully.
God save lebanon

It wouldn't surprise me if he was murdered en route to or at the hospital. I feel bad for Lebanon-caught between the rock of Hezbollah scum and the hard place of Syrian maniacs. Will that country ever be free and independent and not in the hands of Islamic lunatics?

I remember when many people were being evacuated at the start of the conflict months ago when hizbollah started firing missles one lebanese interviewed said :
"Listen Im an Arab Chrisitan this was our country but the Arab muslims are taking it over with their populations ...we are becoming a very small minority in our own country now..."

Re: Anti-Syrian Lebanese Christian politician murdered
Yeah, that's the way to do things. If you have a difference of opinion with somebody just kill the poor SOB. This stuff is beyond words.

Lebanon was once, and could be if the Americans and the West had any sense, a refuge and a redoubt for Arabic-speaking (which is not the same as being "Arab" though many have been taught to efface that distinction) Christians.
The Gemayels, the Chamouns, the great Charles Malik (officially Greek Orthodox, he thought like a Maronite -- Lebanese will understand that comment) -- that is to whom Lebanon should belong. Not to the troglodytic Nasrallah and his maddened myrmidons.

"He was elected by parliament after the assassination of his brother, Bashir, who was chosen president but was killed a few days before he was to take office."
Killed by who? Must have been those Lutherans again. Or maybe tree-fairies. This is another example of MSM glossing over important facts related to Islamic violence. Also, the assassination of Bashir led directly to the killings of Palestinians at Sabra and Shatila by Christians, as opposed to some cold-blooded, spiteful Israeli operation as many would have us believe.

YUSUFALI: But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, an seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
His critism of those Syrian Dudes must have been seen as a failure to repent.
Can't wait for the BBC to blame it on the Jews!!!

I bet it was one of those Somali freedom-fighter mercenaries....
No doubt the poodle-of-Islam, Blair, will blame the Israeli-"Palestinian" "conflict" for this murder. Couldn't have anything to do with the Nut Job and his quest for that Persian/Shi'ite hegemonic crescent, could it? Good to know that pansy Nasralla and his stormtroopers are being kept flush with cash. From today's ynetnew.com:

Hizbullah: We got USD 300 million
Deputy group leader admits in interview with al-Sharq al-Awsat his organization is receiving financial aid from Iran, other countries for rehabilitation, but stresses organization's plans remain independent
Roee Nahmias Published: 11.21.06, 15:16
Hizbullah Deputy Secretary General Naim Kassem admitted that his organization was receiving financial aid from Iran .
In an interview with the London-based Arab-language newspaper al-Sharq al-Awsat, Kassem said that his organization received about USD 300 million for rehabilitation purposes.
Kassem added that there was nothing wrong with it and that the funds were legitimate.
In addition, he said, "Everyone in Lebanon receives money from outside, but the question is which conditions come with this money. Hizbullah's decisions are not influenced by the Iranian economic support.
"Everyone in Lebanon receives external aid sometimes from associations and institutions, and sometimes even personal aid. But the thing is that this money, which the United States is paying or some other countries are paying Lebanon, is conditioned by certain commitments.
"Lebanon has already become known for the relation between political reform and economic aid. I am referring to political aid which matches the American interests.
"This is where the problem with the financial aid lies. Lebanon received financial aid from Iran, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi and other countries. With this aid there is no problem as long as it is not conditioned by political cells," Kassem said.
He was asked where the Iranian funds reaching Hizbullah came from, and answered: "Iran announced an aid package for Lebanon's rehabilitation, including for building bridges, prayer places, schools and roads, and even submitted family pensions.
"Hizbullah has been working on a plan to house those whose homes were wrecked, which costs about USD 300 million, which we received through private and institutional donations, and some of the aid we received from Iranian associations and non-profit organizations.
"We will accept any unconditioned aid from any country. You must also know that there are several other Arab and Muslim countries which sent us budgeting because they believe in us."
Are you talking about financial aid? What about the Iranian political financing of Hizbullah?
Kassem responded: "Hizbullah is a Lebanese party. Its financing is not the problem. What is important is its political plan and how they can influence it. I believe that anyone who has fundamental political values in Lebanon, including those who blame us, receives political funding in different ways."
On Monday, the Lebanese daily an-Nahar estimated that the opposition's "mass rallies in Lebanon" may be launched Thursday, and that the coming days will be dedicated to last-minute attempts to mediate between the sides.
Kassem commented on the issue, but refused to stipulate a specific date for the demonstrations aimed at toppling Siniora's government, to whom he referred – like Nasrallah - as "the government of the American Ambassador Feltman."
Kassem dismissed talks about Thursday as the day when the protest will be launched, and said that any other day before or after is also a possibility. He reiterated that the demonstrations will not be violent and that they will not include takeovers of formal institutions.

This murder was not Syrian influenced, but rather Iranian by Hezbollah in an attempt to gain power in the government. The only way the Lebanese government stands a chance is to eliminate Nasrallah once and for all. But, you watch and see, nothing will be done. How tragic. This is why Islam is prospering, because no one ever seems to fight back. Our governments are so complacent and passive.

At the end of the day, the Lebanese Christians had their chance four months ago to break the shackles of Hizbollah, Syria and Iran. They should have thrown in their lot with the Israelis, and Lebanon's Christian politicians should have shown solidarity with Israel and taken on the Israeli-hating Western media. But no. Their virulent anti-Semitism got the better of them, and this assassination has been the result, followed by much worse, I fear. And given their conduct four months ago and the vicious outpourings of anti-Israeli hatred from Lebanese Christians, I find it hard to have any sympathy for them. But this does not alter the fact that the evildoers of Hizbollah, Iran and Syria have to be utterly destroyed as part of the great fightback against the Jihad.

A lexical note:
The much-needed, indispensable term "dhimmitude" was first coined by the scholar Bat Ye'or. The first public use of the term, however, was by the uncle of the late Pierre Gemayel, the President-elect of Lebanon, the late Bashir Gemayel, who was assassinated by the same force of darkness, more or less, as have just muredered his nephew. He first uttered the word in a speech he delivered on September 14, 1982. He was assassinated later that day.

The PLO started it by massacring Lebanese Christians in the 70s. My bet is that if Hezbollah takes over they will finish the job, and nobody will try to stop them.

Hugh, do you mean this speech? A courageous speech indeed! Standing up for Love among a sea of hate.

Sohail Ahmad Banglori
Dhimmitude
Three weeks after he was elected President of Lebanon, on 14 September 1982, Bashir Gemayel delivered a speech at Dayr-Salib.
Here are some extracts from his fateful speech:
"…In the name of all the Christians of the Middle East, and as Lebanese Christians, let us proclaim that if Lebanon is not to be a Christian national homeland, it will nonetheless remain a homeland for Christians. Above all a homeland for Christians, though one for others as well if they so choose a homeland to be protected and preserved, in which our churches may be rebuilt at the time and in the manner we desire.
Yasser Arafat has transformed the church of Damur into a garage. We forgive him, and though they defiled, sullied and pillaged the church of Damur, we will rebuild it. Had we been in Egypt or Syria, perhaps we would not even have had the right to rebuild a destroyed church.
Our desire is to remain in the Middle East so that our church bells may ring out our joys and sorrow whenever we wish!
We want to continue to christen, to celebrate our rites and traditions, our faith and our creed whenever we wish!
We want to be able to assume and testify to our Christianity in the Middle East! And whatever may be the difficulty in offering this testimony, we will never renounce it.
We will testify to our Christianity in Lebanon!
We will testify to our Christianity in the Middle East!…
So that Lebanon may truly be the Lebanon we desire, it must perforce remain the land of freedom, the homeland of civilization. Otherwise it will resemble Yemen or those countries wherein there remains not the slightest trace of our existence, nor the least reason for it. As a Christian part of the Middle East, we want to be different from others and possess a land which, without being - let it be repeated - a Christian national homeland, shall be a country for Christians, where we may live in dignity, without being forced by anyone to deny our faith, as we were in the time of the Turks when we were ordered to walk on the[ir] left because we were Christians. We do not want to be forced to wear any sort of discriminatory badge on our body or on our clothes - so that one might know that we were Christians - and we do not want to be transformed into citizens existing in the "dhimmitude" of others!
Henceforth, we refuse to live in any "dhimmitude"!
We no longer wish to be under any protection!
Our martyrs have defended us!
Our martyrs have defended our cause!
For eight years, our martyrs have defended our freedom and our presence in the Middle East, during which the whole world repudiated us, during which the whole world disinherited us, during which the whole world ignored us; and when we emerged victorious, all became our friends, all sought to befriend us.
.........he was murdered......
