String of bombings kills more than 150 in Sadr City

Sunni-Shi'ite Jihad Update. "150 die in deadliest attack of Iraq war" by Thomas Wagner for The Associated Press:

BAGHDAD, Iraq - In the deadliest attack since the beginning of the Iraq war, suspected Sunni-Arab militants used three suicide car bombs and two mortar rounds on the capital's Shiite Sadr City slum to kill at least 150 people and wound 238 on Thursday, police said.
The Shiites responded almost immediately, firing 10 mortar rounds at the Abu Hanifa Sunni mosque as Azamiya, killing one person and wounding seven people in their attack on the holiest Sunni shrine in Baghdad.
The Interior Ministry imposed a curfew on Baghdad until further notice.
Beginning at 3:10 p.m., the three car bomb attackers blew up their vehicles one after another, at 15 minute intervals, hitting Jamila market, al-Hay market and al-Shahidein Square in Sadr City. At about the same time, mortar rounds struck al-Shahidein Square and Mudhaffar Square, police said.
As the fiery explosions sent up huge plumes of black smoke up over northeastern Baghdad, and left streets covered with burning bodies and blood, angry residents and armed Shiite militiamen flooded the streets, hurling curses at Sunni Muslims and firing weapons into the air.
Ambulances raced to the scenes and police Col. Hassan Chaloub said at least 145 people were killed and 238 wounded in the blasts, which destroyed many outdoor food stalls and parked automobiles and buses.
[...]
Sectarian fighting also broke in another part of northern Iraq on Thursday, when 30 Sunni insurgents armed with machine guns and mortars attacked the Shiite-controlled Health Ministry building. After a three-hour battle, during which Iraqi soldiers and U.S. military helicopters intervened, the attackers were repulsed. But at least seven guards of the ministry were wounded, said police 1st. Lt. Maitham Abdul-Razaq.
The Sadr City and Health Ministry attacks were the latest example of widespread sectarian fighting involving Sunnis and Shiites that is leaving Iraq either on the verge of a civil war or already fighting one.
At about noon Thursday, heavy clashes broke out between about suspected Sunni insurgent gunmen and guards at the Shiite-controlled Health Ministry building in northwest Baghdad, security officials said.
State-run Iraqiyah television said the Health Ministry was being attacked with mortars by "terrorists who are intending to take control of the building."
Security officials said about 30 gunmen, believed to be Sunni insurgents, had launched the attack. Iraqi troops were being rushed to the area and all roads leading to the ministry in Bab al-Muadham neighborhood were closed, said the security officials on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to reporters.
Police Lt. Ali Muhsin said the attack began at 12:15 p.m. when three mortar shells hit the building, causing damage. After that, gunmen on the upper floors of surrounding buildings opened fire.
Ministry workers were trapped in the building.
"The gunmen fled as American helicopters and Iraqi armored vehicles arrived. Employees were able to leave starting about 3:15 p.m.," Health ministry spokesman Qassim Yehyah said.
Health Minister Ali al-Shemari is a follower of al-Sadr, the radical anti-American Shiite cleric.

Why are we saving followers of sadr (sorry a** demented radical)? Madness. We should sit, calmly watching, and after they release our soldier then help them clean up the mess, not before.

Perhaps if the US was to leave these people to themselves.......they will wipe themselves out!

The US tried to bring that country a better life. It is obvious no one can help them. You can't help them with freedom, democracy, civil obedience, a future, peace or anything else. They will feed on each other, turning the country into a dump whether we are there or not, AND of course blame it all on the western infidels.

This is a "no win" situation.

It is ironic that George Bush surely one of the least intelligent of U.S presidents has set in train a confragration in which a Civil War[already raging in Iraq]will engulf the entire Middle East.I say 'ironic' because Georgie Boy with his ideas of exporting Democracy & Multiculturalism went to War with entirely different aims.Again as Huntingdom points out in his 'Clash of Civilizations'-how dangerous it is

-- from a posting above

And because he failed to articulate or even to recognize, without articulating, the right goal -- the goal of dividing and demoralizing the Camp of Islam, neither he, nor his Administration, nor his loyalists, can claim title to that victory. Only those who identified it publicly, and wished to hasten its recognition by others who would then, it was hoped, understand that overlooked "victory" and stop trying to pluck a foolish defeat from it (by standing in its way, by trying to prevent that internecine warfare, sectarian and ethnic, from spreading beyond the confines of Iraq to other areas in dar al-islam) can claim to have "won" the war in Iraq -- as much as one might use the word "win" for what is simply one stage in a long-running, likely endless campaign of self-defense against the Jihad and its many instruments.

If the allies withdraw from Iraq and Iraq is left to its own devices, will the Sunni/Shiite conflict necessarily be a long one?
The Shiites strike me as numerous, well armed and dedicated to jihad in the name of Allah - whilst the Sunni's seem less numerous, less well armed and more in the mold of Saddam and the Saudis...more interested in luxury yachts, hookers and a good time.
Also the Shiites have the backing of Iran and behind Iran stands China and Russia...a powerful combination.

Won't the Shiites carve through the Sunnis like a hot knife through butter?
Then the West and especially Israel will be in even more trouble, facing a much more unified Islamic, nuclear armed Middle East.

But how can the U.S. maintain, at enormous cost in lives and wealth, with an unreliable fickle voting public the effort to introduce a free democratic Iraq in the face of determined Islamic opposition.
And if not the U.S. and not a free and democratic Iraq, then what else can do what Saddam was doing in his own murderous way, ie. keeping the Islam monster at bay.

Sheer madness, that's what it is. This kind of violence would probably put the Holy Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) himself to shame.

So the Saudis pay for the Suni jihadis and the Iranians pay for the Suni jihadis and they kill each other and blow up each other's mosques. Not a bad day for the rest of us.

Morgane - that was BRILLIANT!! As sad as it is to know that it's the truth. These are the 'leaders' we are faced with. The only reason King W. got in is because the dhims ran a nobody named John-John Kerry.. ironically another Yale product. Methinks we need someone who came out of a military acadamy - or straight off the battlefield - to run things from now on. Someone who is a patriot and not a user. someone who cares about his soldiers and the people he serves.

Sorry but it's the same shyte either way.. Until we see a powerful Third Way in the United States our best hope lies with Tom Tancredo. This is not about Mexicans seeking a better life here.. this is about SURVIVAL.

And why is it that Mexicans can't build up their own country as well as the United States and Canada? I've met more than a few Mexicans, Hondurans, Salvadoreños who work here and have found the majority of them smart and well-informed [speaking Spanish has helped me to determine this] and I have every reason to believe that they can do better for themselves and their countries if given half the chance we have over here. THEY are NOT the problem. Jihad is. The borders MUST be closed!

"Thanksgiving" to American invasion and occupation of Iraq!

The delicately balanced country is being destroyed.

$300 billion dollars of tax-payer money was wasted.

Almost 3000 American soldier lives were lost!

Let's imagine who had to mop her up... the fiend's head, with a bit of soggy shoulder flesh, held up by yet some pissed-off Israeli copper for her last photo.

I have been galvanised by this site, LGF and other but I'm getting increasingly itchy feet. The islamists underestimate us, believing us passive.

Who faced the 300 islamadrones in February in London for the Motoons protest with their surreal placards? ('Freedom go to hell'.. Behead those who insult islam'). The police and some photographers. And the Danes probably looking bewildered from within the Embassy.

Yet I have limitless energy to combat this poison.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali has a fine article on her site about the veil called 'Setting Themselves Apart'. I have now made copies which I intend to hand to any veiled woman I see on my streets in north London for them to read and ponder. As she says, 'they..violate the norms' of my society, and I have the right to contest their alien behaviour.

I challenged one niqabi a few weeks ago who said, 'it's because of my religion'. If only I had the right sura on me at the time. So wearing a black semi-transparent veil all day isn't hypersexualising oneself? Ha.

"You know exactly what you are doing. And you know exactly what damage you have caused to your "party". Well done Mr. Traitor. Now, thanks to you and your ilk, we have idiots like Pelosi going to bat for everything that is ANTI-AMERICAN.

I hope you all are happy now! Pelosi and the likes of her will sign the death warrant of America and all that it once stood for."

The final death blow comes when Bush and the Democrats legislate the guest worker/amnesty program. Republicans should have distanced themselves from this false conservatism a long time ago; but they wanted to go on angering the public by approving almost everything Bush wanted, claiming as recently as 6 months ago that Iraq was the central front of the war on terror. They blew it. When are people going to learn it's principles and not the party that determines good policy. The GOP would be wise to sponsor Gilchrist or Tancredo at this point.

I have reached the point where I begin to say who the hell cares, why don't they just put it on the television so we can all enjoy the spectacal of the follower of the the Religion of Peace killing each other . No I don't mean that, it is just that I can't logically understand why they have to keep killing each other. I know people are going to say it is because they are muslims and it is programed into them. There must be something more, does it sit in our DNA or is it because they are just plain F@@king stupid, or is it me who has been brainwashed to think it socially unaceptable to kill my neighbour. When I read these types of threads I just despair.

It is unacceptable. ^^^ But they are bent on their Goals and it's up to the decent , Freedom loving, tolerant people of the world to answer the call. Tyranny and intolerance have to be stamped out. it's a dirty Job and nobody WANTS to do it, but i must be done. any less will spell our undoing. we have to rise to the occassion and see it through, as our Grandparents did 60 years ago. I wish it were not so, but they have declared and shown their intentions time and time again, it's really a moral issue of how long we are going to tolerate Religious Fanaticism and Hate and how many millions we are going to allow to die before we act as a Culture( The West, and free peoples )

I don't know the answer but i fear it's not good.

..... tragic as the mayhem is, US approach to Iraq is bordering on laughable. It started with 'winning hearts and minds', instead of crushiing the enemy. Muqtada Al-Sadr was allowed to get away while his militia fired from mosques. Contractors and other workers, who were there to 'win hearts and minds' were kidnapped and beheaded in front of camera, while US trained Iraqi security forces. After 3 years, only one unit was trained and equipped, while most of those trained went to join the enemy. Yet, the 'hearts and minds' stupidity continued, resulting in more death and destruction. The end, death and destruction, is tragic, but the stupid journey, 'winning hearts and minds', is quite comic.

Oh the mercy and compassion of muslims just leaves me in pieces! And their beloved brethren and sister literally!

Note dear peanut gallery not one , no not one peep of protest from the so called moderate wing ( suppossedly the majority wing ) of muslims. If anything they protest the American troops there trying to stop such madness from happening in the first place. We should give them what they want , a full pull out and let the blood bath begin in ernest.

Well not pull out all the way. Just retreat up to the Kurds and give them their nation hood that they have always craved and needed in exchange for military bases there. Better to attack Iran with. So what if the Turks, Iranians and Syrians don't like it. They don't like us anyway.

On this Thanks Giving Day , just another reason to be thankfull that you are not a muslim. A blood bath occurs and those sorry assed , poor excuse worshippers of God find nothing wrong with it or speak out against it. They don't give a shit about Infidels ( all that is not them ) nor apparently about fellow muslims! How can they give a rats ass about God? Well it is obvieous, THEY DON'T! All they care about is death and hatred and are all too will to tolerate blood baths and oppression to mind numbing extents.

Death To Islam!

Health Minister Ali al-Shemari is a follower of al-Sadr, the radical anti-American Shiite cleric.

It really blows my western mind and I cannot understand whay the Iraqi Siites are so anti-American at this stage. Are they not smart enough to bide their time and help present a veneer of peace in Iraq? This illusion of a peaceful Iraq would mean that the US will leave earlier. I believe that Mohammed would completely cooperate with the US in the short term in order to achieve the long term goal. Al-Sadr is not following the example of the Perfect Man.

When the US leaves, the Shiites will be in charge.

The Sunnis are the ones who cannot expect to gain anything with the ballot box.

If we are not going to set up a stable, and proper country, that will not hate every fiber of anything American, we should not just leave. We should declare Iraq a war zone and switch from defence to mowing the lawn. Leave after it is really clean from weeds and crab grass.

Otherwise, why else are we there?

150 Shiite civilians mass murdered by Sunnis.....

This is their true Islam. The Islam of the bloodbath in the name of a false prophet and a phony baloney allah. Who can seriously doubt that this is how Islam has fought wars for centuries? Via open warfare on civilian populations and terrorism of civilian populations. Cowardly Islam revels in such mass murder and assassination. Muhammad fought wars this way with the sword. He had no bombs

SO/
I'm shocked, I'm shocked, I'm shocked I tell you, the first round of violence initiated from a MOSQUE.

I'm shocked, I'm shocked, I'm shocked I tell you, and the victims responded back with attacks on a MOSQUE.
SOff/

Why does the press call this "secretarian" violence? Isn't this just Islamic violence? Why does the press report this violence everyday as if the U.S. broke Iraq and as if Iraq was not a cesspool to begin with? Why is the U.S. responsible for the inhumane treatment these religious traditions of the religion of peace inflict on eachother? Why does the press not pick up on the irony that murder is one of the only things Islam has in common one sect to another? Why does the press fail to report that the religion of peace has murder as a central tenant ordained by god?

Every time there is press about violence of Sunnite against Shiite the press should report this violence continues the Islamic tradition of violence between Shiite and Sunnite since the sects fought to death and murdered eachother over succession to Mohammed and has been going on since the Shiite leader Ali was murdered by the Sunnite tribal leaders and Ali's wife children and unmurdered followers and their wife and children were sold into slavery. This tag line, the one that Islam has been in a perpetual cycle of murder from its inception is the news in these stories not the fact that violence took place at the "holiest shrine" or other such nonsense.

‘Civilization precedes democracy’. This famous sentence is all Mr.Bush and his advisers had to have know before thrusting the formidable USA military might into a country whose inhabitants (I have purposely avoided the word ‘citizens’) are plain savages to whom the word democracy describes a for them incomprehensible concept, let alone a life style. Based on that phrase it is easy to predict that both the Iraq and the Afghanistan adventures will fail rather sooner than later. Let make it clear that I deeply deplore such a foreseeable outcome, but I have known it since the start.
