Even the European Parliament delegation thinks this is a bad idea. "Indonesia warned against Sharia law," from News.com.au:
INDONESIA'S relations with other countries could be affected if it adopted Islamic Sharia law which is being introduced in one province, a European Parliament delegation said today.
Hartmut Nassauer, head of the delegation of eight MEPs, said non-governmental organisations had raised concerns about Sharia law, which is being gradually introduced in Aceh province.
"Of course it's a matter for the Indonesian people and society to decide on the law they have," Mr Nassauer said at the end of the five-day visit by the group which is in charge of links with Southeast Asia.
"What I would like to say is such a development has an impact on relations to other countries, it could burden the situation if there is a kind of religious law having consequences for state partnerships," he said.
Mr Nassauer said that a religious legal system must not influence the state legal code.
"According to our conception of most fundamental human rights, the liberty of... faith is one of the most important ones. It includes the right to live without faith and consequently you do not have to obey a faith which is not yours," he said.
However, the German MEP noted that Indonesia's main Muslim organisation had expressed opposition to the introduction of Sharia law.
"It was good to hear from representatives from Nahdlatul Ulama, for example, that this important and largest Muslim organisation, not only of Indonesia but of the world, is obviously against the implementing of Sharia law," he said.
The Indonesian Government allowed Aceh to implement Islamic law in 2001 as part of limited self-rule to pacify demands for independence.
Aceh has so far only partially implemented Sharia, enforcing Muslim dress codes and obligations such as daily five-time prayers, fasting and alms-giving.

While Mr.Hooper at CAIR was on one of his Anti-Christian tirades when he discovered that
Christians were willing to raise the Tsunami-Orphans that were ignored by Muslims because the whole death and destruction for over 150'000 victims was first declared as Allah's warning to submit to Islam , I expected this was another ruse by CAIR to deflect the Media from another story which BTW I found later on by digging into
Islamic Websites that professed to be raising funds for all Victims suffering in the aftermath.
Basically a Global Body for Islam was at the core of several banners on those muslim websites
and the reason Hooper didn't want these traumatized Muslim children to leave Aceh was what I saw as a exploitation of the anger and shock to be harnessed by Islam to create future Jihadists , I say this from reading all the subtle references about aiding the Orphans with Schools and housing right where they live rather than adoption to out of Country up-bringing .
Further probing and following Hyperlinks to other sites slowly confirmed that those Schools were Madrassa's based on the strict teachings by
Sharia based Islamic nations with like Scholars
to assert this view as THE true islam from Muhammad , but the bigotry jumped right out when I read the restriction for funds going to these victims( kids) .
The free Education and housing at these "Orphanages" were really Madrassa's that were tied to the Tsunami-aid we in the West thought went to the kids with no strings attached , so only the guardians that allowed the child to be immersed in Sharia-law and in-depth
study of the Quran was assured getting free Schooling and housing at this Quasi-Orphanage
for tsunami-kids.
The deception is straight out of the Muhammad
manual for war against the unbelievers , and for Hooper to condemn Christians for opening their homes to Orphans while Islamic org.'s
planned to use these kids as bombs in the future
once brainwashed that "The Jews" caused the Tsunami , it shows the sickness of Mohummad's mind to not only think he heard God's voice in his head but to marry a child and force sex on them which lowered the value of females or kids so killing them for Allah's cause is acceptible even by todays standards within Islam.
The MSM in canada has even aided the Jihadists by censoring stories from Iraq , this practise
by editors created a misleading story about the
true victims of Islamists and islam by calling the Sunni-terrorists Militiamen that attacked the Shite area of Baghdad .
Here's the problem , if the two groups of Muslims are murdering each other then most people would see Islam and Muhammad as the common denominator and they are all victim of the
False Prophet , but it appears that when these clashed occur the agressor in the others Hood
quickly becomes a militant while the victim is the Muslim identified by their Sect of islam.
So the PC charade continues and we in the West
are fed filtered version of the Quran that focus on peace/jesus/God/tolerance/Pluralism along with the MSM living in fear of becoming the next Theo van Gogh for telling the truth about islam .
The MSM portrays the Iraq violence as if a few yahoo's got together and plotted to smear islam
by pretending to be Muslims and blowing themselves up with car-bombs near Mosques , but nobody asks why there isn't global outrage by other Muslims seeing their Brother being killed and their Mosques blown up, answer....because THEY know what's really going on and Muhammad declared the bad Muslims as enemies of Allah
to be killed as one of the infidels .
The only blessing from this is that these hate filled followers of a death-cult aren't focusing on American troops if they keep slaughter each other , and they save us from doing it if they ever got to come here to force Sharia-law on us .
Slowly all of those smug anti-America democracies are seeing how islam is becoming a cancer in their nation and Muslims will destroy them from the inside merely by using the welfare systems to crank out 5 or 6 little Ahmeds to create 5 or 6 more Ahmeds which will embrace Jihad to make an islamic state and then the whole Country an Islamic nation ruled by Sharia.

The "democracy" fought for was in name only. Used by the islamists as a tool, but genuinely supported by the minorities. As is always the case, once "democracy" is won, the islamists take over and "democracy" is forgotten. Look at Iran during the Shah, where the communists and the minorities, ie. Christians, joined forces with the Islamists to topple the Shah. Once the Shah was down, Islamists took over and savagely suppressed the communists and Christians.
Back in 1945, the majority of people in West Indonesia was Muslim and Christians in East Indonesia. Leaders of both parts agreed to become one nation ONLY after the leaders of West Indonesia agreed that Indonesia should be secular, not a country based on religion. This agreement was reached at the 11th house where the words relating to the Shariah was not included in the five principles of the country. Only then did they proclaimed Indonesia's independence as one country.
East Indonesia has now been populated by Muslims, through transmigration of people from Muslim Java and Madura and also through the placement of Muslim government officials. East Indonesia does not have a Christian majority anymore. Even pockets where there used to be the highest concentration of Christians, ie. where the population used to be overwhelmingly Christians, do not have a Christian majority anymore. Not even by a slight margin. The area in Poso is an example. There has been persecution against the Christians, but is always named as 'sectarian' violence in MSM, as if the Christians there were equally equipped and armed and viciously attaking the Muslims like the Muslims.
West Papua is another example. It was taken by Indonesia with the acquiesence of the States and the West since at the time Indonesia was seen as a front against communism. The condition imposed was that there should be a referendum after one year. Well, it was a sham referendum and has never been accepted by the native Papuans until now. But they don't have outside support and lacks a politician skilled in international relations like East Timor.
Papuans want freedom from Indonesia. Some are asking through what they think would be the best for the population, withouth bloodshed, which is referendum.
My personal opinion is that a referendum would not achieve freedom from Indonesia since the majority of Papuans still live in the stone age, and more menacingly, there are lots of Muslims and Laskar Jihad in Papua now.
Back to democracy in Indonesia - Christians are being persecuted by a lot of Muslim population. The outwardly obvious violence against the Christians, like the spate of church bombings a few years ago, seem to have abated. I suspect, (I'm suspicious by nature when it comes to the Indonesian government), it was only so that the world would see that the government has actively fought against terrorism. The same with the sentencing of the terrorists.
The Government both in Jakarta and in various local areas have and are in the process of implementing sharia. Strict adherence to Islam is followed by Muslims in some areas resulting in the Muslim population forbidding Christians to have prayer meetings in their homes. Churches have been closed, not by the government but by local people, with obvious support of the local government. This we can see by the presence of police during these assaults by muslim mobs.
There may be other Muslims who don't agree with this practice, I'd like to think so, but these 'moderate' muslims are not doing anything to defend the Christian's right to practice their religion.
The Indonesian government may seem to be doing the right things to combat Islamic terrorism, but this is only on the surface. Underneath it, persecution of non Muslims is going on and is getting stronger, supported by new regulations. I'm afraid the world is unaware of this.
I'm blessed to be living in this great US of A, but am saddened and very afraid of the fate of the minorities in Indonesia if the direction to which Indonesia is heading now is not stopped.

When the Sharia was first proposed, they said it was only for the Muslims, non Muslims would not be affected by it.
Well, on the first day this "partial" Sharia was implemented they immediately closed a number of churches. Some Christian leaders were forced to become a chimmi by signing an agreement not to enlarge a church building (for instance) in order to maintain good relations with it's (Muslim) neightobrs.
The vice squad punishes Christian women for not dressing in the Islamic way.
Whereas before this the guise was that the Syariah was only for the Muslims, now that it's been proven that there are no opposition, or more accurately, nobody to defend the christians. the government now wants Shariah law as the law of the land in Aceh, which menas that the Christians are also under the Shariah law.
It would behoove the West to study and understand the way Islam works by following what's happening in the muslim or muslim majority countries like Indonesia. Shariah tends to creep up on you, and before you know it, it's firmly entrenched in the system and would be hard to repel withougt blood shed.

Is THAT the reason the US is trying to shove Turkey down our throats? We DON'T WANT them! We could deal with Mexico, but an islamic country is IMPOSSIBLE to swallow.
Just remember.. it was always the Ameircans beating the drum for Turkish EU membership. Even Bush had the gall to call us racist and reactionary of we didn't want his good friends the turks!! Maybe he can off turkey statehood instead!

The news about heads being chopped of was about the Dayaks (indigenous tribe in Kalimantan) who few years ago attacked the Madurese who are Muslims and who were transmigrants, part of the Indonesian government's plan to populize non Muslim parts of Indonesia. Theses attacks in Kalimantan by indigenous Dayaks were not religious based, even though many of the Dayaks are now Christians. It was based on their anger over the encroachment of their lands by the Muslims with the support of the government.
The transmigrants were given land and supplies to support them for a period of time, if I'm not mistaken for one year, while the indigenous people were not given any help at all.

The Indonesians should worry more about clean water, sewage systems, homes, food and medical services for the people of aceh. Remember the tsunami that hit the area?
If the Indonesians are more worried about a woman having a head covering than clean water, they have their priorities all screwed up!

The most important questions we must ask is how many of these aceh mosques and madrassas have received arab oil money and how many of their imams have received training in punjabi seminaries.
The punjabi deobandi and arab wahhabi ideologues are the most virulent among the islamic theologians and also the most infectious.
Arab finances combined with brainwashing seminaries in punjabi forge a powerful axis of evil to radicalize and poison the minds of ther muslims throughout the world to the ultimate extreme.
Even reforming or revising the quran will not bring any results, since the imams and the terrorists will undoubtedly seek some way to keep the islamic terror well funded and motivated.
The arab-punjabi axis of evil is at the head of this jihadi struggle with quran in one hand and arms and ammunitions in the other.

Until the words extreme and radical are completely disassociated from Islam, we freedom lovers have no chance, because:
1) There is no interpretive layer sitting as a buffer between the Koran and Hadiths and the modern Moslem, and
2) Islam is at its core and foundation, and in all its principles and concepts, extreme, and uncompromisingly so.
To entertain the notion of moderate Moslems to to play with hot sticks of dynamite. They'll blow up on you sooner or later.
The Koran can be no more reformed than a suppurated cancer can be turned into a T-bone steak.
