A sobering update on the French intifada. "French police the target in urban guerrilla war" by Jon Boyle for Reuters, with thanks to all who sent this in:
PARIS (Reuters) - Stoned, beaten and insulted, their vehicles torched by crowds of hostile youths, French police say they face an urban guerrilla war when they enter the run-down neighborhoods that ring the major cities."Our role is to guarantee the safety of people and property but the great difficulty today is that police are having problems ensuring their own safety," said Jerome Hanarte of the Alliance-Police Nationale union.
Bedside television interviews with officers hospitalized after beatings in "les banlieues," or suburbs, support statistics showing a 6.7 percent jump in violent crime in the 12 months to August.
Fourteen officers are hurt every day in the line of duty, unions estimate, and law and order is sure to feature prominently in next year's presidential election.
The head of the French crime statistics body told Reuters the rise in attacks on police was partly due to Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy's 2002 decision to order police back into tough areas, to disrupt the black economy that fuels crime.
Some residents complain the move spawned constant police harassment which has only exacerbated tensions with local youths, many of whom come from ethnic minorities.
"You can see discrimination in ID controls," complained Kader Latreche, 36, an Algerian with his own photo equipment repair shop in the La Courneuve suburb.
"Why is it always people from the Maghreb or black people who are being stopped and checked? If it happens over and over again, it gets to you. People are frustrated, that's obvious."...
"It's a false debate," said Hanarte, whose union is generally supportive of Sarkozy and wants judges to take a tougher stance against delinquents.
"Why put foot patrols in these districts if they will be systematically attacked by youngsters, who are repeatedly arrested and then systematically released by the justice system?
"Having police in these areas can only be a good idea if, beforehand ... police have arrested the delinquents in the suburbs. You have to start by that, restoring a certain calm."...
Comte says the threat to police is so great in some neighborhoods they should exercise their "right to withdraw." That means refusing to respond to emergency calls if they judge they cannot guarantee their own safety.
"Frankly, it's not worth getting your head kicked in for an end of year bonus of 200 euros ($256.8)," said the plain clothes officer.
Or for French civilization. After all, if the leadership isn't defending it, why should the police?

Being a cop in France has to be the second most dangerous thing in the world these days (being a Muslim apostate in Islamania is THE most dangerous thing). They couldn't pay me enough to do that job the way the government shackles them.

What France needs is a revolution, or at least a coup, led by the military or the police. The government, starting with De Gaulle, sold out to arab foreign interests over 40 years ago and France is being destroyed from within. The OAS was France's only attempt to stave this off. It failed. They need to try again. Now we will see what the French are made of.

The French are in denial, just like they are in Afganistan where their troops are not allowed to engage the enemy, meanwhile, US, Canadian, British and Dutch troops are sending their sons home in coffins.
What are the French (& some others)doing in Afganistan if they can't help out?
Theirs is a pretend war I guess.

'Local Youths, hostile youths, youngsters'. Not a mention of 'muslim, Islam or jihad'. No reports of
Allahu Ackbar being shouted as they pummel officers.
Clearly then, this is just a case of teenagers being out of control. Older folks dont have anything to do with it. Just a bunch of wild kids, frustrated by the inability to get a job, or a date.
The primitive intellect functions best in areas of sex and/or violence. Since most of these 'kids' are too young, to dirty, or too stupid to get a woman, violence is the next best thing. Is Allah involved?
Of course, he is the 'God of Sex and Violence'. (another fitting title). A jihadi cant jihad and have sex at the same time. So the police become the sex partner in violence. The police are then 'raped' by the violent part of the intellect provided by Allah. If the jihadi gets killed in these actions, they are rewarded 'realsex' (sounds like a porn site)in Paradise with the illustrious 72. There are only two ways to appease these 'children'. Give them free money, a free place to stay, a free woman, and a new copy of the Quran, or by getting brutal with overwhelming force, and send the survivors, bleeding and bruised, home to mama, or to Paradise if they want to push the issue.
I suspect France will find a way to give them more money and women...'that' will fix the problem...wont it...

Living here in usa for over thirty years and still hav eto meet these bible thumping redneck savages. I have met bible thumping fundamentalists who wnats to convert me to their christianity, I have met jehovah witness bible thumper, some are from minority community, I have met many mormons bible thumpers. one thing in common is their extreme politness.
I have met redneck savages as you call them, but their bible seems to be huster magazine and playboy and their favorite drink beer. but even they have treated me with politness.

I hate to say it, but France is going down. If the French can be roused to defend their own country, if their police aren't even safe and they don't raise hell about it what's the point? The French people should be marching and raising hell demanding law and order be restored. Has the Euro press and elites dimmhified them that much? It boggles the mind.
The loss of France to Islam is tragedy of major proportions.

what they wont tell us is that these youths are moslems. If you want to defeat an enemy, you have to identify him - address him with his real name.

Don't the French have something like the National Guard to send in? Police are obviously not enough. These suburbs need to be militarily occupied to restore order.

The only answer is for the leadership to start supporting French society. I would personally declare a WAR MEASURES ACT like we had in Canada under Trudeau in dealing with some terrorists in Quebed in the 70s. I would then call in the ARMY and take over the neighbourhoods. ANY resistance would be met with swift and efficient response like the National Guard in California after the Rodney King riots. Once they were called in they started to take charge quickly. I remember one report of a man, a civilian, trying to run over two national guardsmen. Remmber these are not police and they dont carry revolvers but automatic weapons. They sliced through him and his car and that was the end of it. Paris muslim sections need the same thing. And any agitators caught (would be deported to a muslim country and citizenship revoked EVEN if they were born there). And if they're family would follow if they did not agree with it.
Currently they have an article on the FRENCH RANGERS on the french army official site. Why not give them the proper power, back it up with proper war measures style emergency legislation and let them loose in Paris along with the regular Army.
End of problem. Two weeks tops.

Bible thumpers are just enthusiastic, sometimes to the point of being obnoxious, however, they are seldom dangerous.
Quran thumpers on the other hand are also enthusiastic to point of being obnoxious, and dangerous.
I hope Islam never sends out missionaries, door to door like Mormons or Jehovahs Witnesses. With Mormons or Witnesses I only need to keep handy my 'Bible', my 'Book of Mormon', my 'Witness 'Truth Book', my 'Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Magi'.

You get the picture: Sure, Muslim fundamentalists can be pretty extreme, but what about all our Christian fundamentalists? Unfortunately, for the old moral equivalence to hold up, the Christians really need to get off their fundamentalist butts and start killing more people. At the moment, the brilliantly versatile Muslim fundamentalists are gunning down Maryland schoolkids and bus drivers, hijacking Moscow musicals, self-detonating in Israeli pizza parlours, blowing up French oil tankers in Yemen, blowing themselves up as suicide bombers, crashing airplanes into towers, shooting nuns, rioting at a drop of a hat and slaughtering nightclubbers in Bali, and generally foaming at the mouth while Christian fundamentalists are, sounding extremely strident in their calls for the return of prayer in school.

I think the real reason why the French probably dont send in the Army and the French Rangers (trained much like the American Green Berets) is because of something Robert Spencer has mentioned before: basically some European countries have made deals with Saudi govt to allow muslims in for oil deals. I would ignore those deals. Belive me the Saudis need to sell the oil as much you French need to buy it. And for God sakes close down multinational oil companies if they dont want to play ball with your efforts. Lots of oil lobby groups try to suppress research into alternative energy sources that could lead us away from needing the muslim juice. Enforce antiterror policies on oil companies --arrest and jail CEOs who do not adhere to the rules--immediately. This is war.

FYI, Redneck is a Scotch Irish genetic inheritance, and I am a red neck literally, some of my ancestors were (Calvinist) Scots Irish..and those that settled in the south, along the Appalachian Trail, were illiterate, inbred and religious freaks.. hence the derogatory connotation associated with Red Neck..not all of us red necks are ignorant, inbred, religious freaks..though it appears that the majority are..otherwise they wouldn't have voted for Bush and they wouldn't have started and enabled the divisive culture war that is destroying America and making it vulnerable to Islamic triumph.

As soon as I read your post, that phrase went through my mind. (I'm Canadian.) I love watching old news footage of Trudeau besting reporters. I studied journalism. In one class, we were shown a clip of Trudeau being interviewed as an example of "what not to do when conducting an interview".
Whatever anyone thinks of Trudeau's politics and legacy, the man was brilliant.
