Did the Benedict really say "Islam is a religon of peace?"

If he really said that, are you suggesting that what he said is untrue?

In other words, if he said something that is untrue, then what you are really saying if I read between the lines, is that you (not I) are calling him a liar.

Well, if he is a liar than why would he do something like that?

Ohhhh, I see; because he was afraid.

Why should someone be afraid to tell the truth; isn't "truth" objectively true?

Silly me, that's right, truth exists in the mind man; "like, cool, man -- everything's like, relative man."

But then, the other side doesn't seem to be afraid.

We should the pope be "afraid" when the other side, which isn't afraid and should be, isn't?

Ohhhh yes of course, because they will kill you and cut off your head if you speak the truth; the pope won't do those sorts of things will he.

Yes, perfect sense -- islam IS the religon of piece.

Religon of peace you said; will I lose my mind if I disagree? No? Just my head?

Okay then.

This cartoon should be called "Pearl of Wisdom in Sea of Dung".

im suprised that the police protecting him did not get pick him off.......(oh the headlines)

hey if the pope did call islam a religion of peace.....then that makes him incorrect.

but the pope is supposed to be "inerrant".

sooooo........ either the pope didnt make the comment

OR!!!!

he made it and he is errant......

ummmmm

what about......Allah sent a jinn to torment pope and the jinn overcame him. The jinn then possesed pope and spoke the words through him.

lol guys just to let u know the pope aint inrrant......Jesus is the ONLY inerrant one!!! NO ONE ELSE IS, HAS or WILL BE!!! not mary not paul not the mahdi not G. W. Bush NOBODY but JESUS CHRIST THE MESSIAH is inerrant.

umm lol im not angry and i dont hate catholics im just stating the truth.

lol and i dont think the pope said that but he sure is getting that across.

Oh, well, I'd rather not read arguments about Catholic vs. Protestant theology. We know where and how we differ but we are both Christians and there's no doubt about that.

I have a great deal of respect for the Pope. He seems like an intelligent man of principle.

(I'm Protestant but some of my folks were also Catholic and Jewish.)

Josephine:

I agree with your comment. Visitors to this site are drawn most frequently by their concerns for jihad-based violence, to become inforemd and updated on events surrounding jihad and perhaps to share ideas on how the global Islamic community might be encouraged to reject violent jihad, subjugation of non-Moslems and the myriad other human rights abuses that characterize Moslem-majority societies.

Resolution of other matters between other faith traditions cannot be expected to be adequately addressed here, let alone resolved. Name calling or unfriendly teasing between Christians of differing denominations is simply, well, un-Christian. Here's an instance where one should turn the other cheek.

As for the Pope, like him or not, at least he's walking into the lion's den. At least he's raised his voice with something like relevance particularly when it comes to reciprocity in freedom of conscience between the West and Moslem countries. His presence in Turkey clearly upsets various groups there, as well as al-Qaeda in Iraq. Perhaps his presence actually frightens them. He might be on to something. Let's wish him well in that.

Chatillon - Thank you. Yes, let's all wish the Pope well in his work.

I'm reminded of my (atheist) husband's attempts to explain evolution to me. It took him a few years to realize that I understand what he's saying but my mind is closed to it: I will not accept it, no matter what scientific evidence he quotes. LOL.

As with my husband and me, there are some issues on which I think we have to agree to disagree (as respectfully as possible) and then get on with what we mutually decide are the more important issues.

I, too, wonder why so many Muslims are perturbed by the Pope's visit. I think that the Christian God could be quite attractive to people who have been oppressed by their governments and religion of birth and that those in power might know, or sense, this. Religion is used to control their populace: without religion, and with freedom of thought and speech, what would happen to their power?

I read once that people in power never willingly give up that power: they have to be forced or convinced to do it. In Islam, it seems that the clerics and government leaders hold most of the power (through religion and religious laws) and, after that, it's all males who hold the power over all females.

The Catholic Church will naturally act, and speak, in its own best interest. It is not in the Churches or the Popes best interest to decend into Hell and preach to the demons. Only Jesus got away with that. Others have decended into Hell, but they did/do not preach. The Pope decended into evil but dared not preach. And it is a good thing, had he preached, he may not have made out alive...one thing those demons hate is a Christian preaching to them...their anger is deadly...

The pope is in Turkey to speak to and lend support to the Christian minority there, NOT to speak nicey-nice to the Muslim hot-heads who would like to put a bullet through his skull. He's got too much sense to think that anything he says will soothe the animal-like senses coming from the mosques in the Middle East.

The cartoon does make the point that there are too many animal-like senses ruling the Middle Eastern Muslim mind-set, even if it gets the pope's mission wrong.

NO witness,

Erdogan violated international rules of diplomatic protocol while talking in the name of the Pope. The Pope's defacto the President of the Vatican too

It's the traditional Kithman of Islam and he twisted the words of the Pope, according to the Vatican and other diplomatic sources.

I can believe this -- I hope it is true; odds are, that what you say IS true.

Let's see how this pans out...

If anyone can find the email address for Michael Ramirez (the cartoonist), I'd suggest we send him messages of thanks and support...no doubt he's already receiving death threats, etc.

Believe me, cartoonists appreciate the support; when I wrote to a local paper last year to complain that they did not have the guts to show any of the Danish Muhammed cartoons, I received a reply from one of their cartoonists who said he had drawn a strip depicting M. and mocking the whole cartoon controversy, but that absolutely no paper that syndicates his work would print it. He had courage, but his editors did not. So maybe we should thank the site editors of investors.com as well.

@Josephine

Evolution and Intelligent Design are NOT MUTUALLY INCOMPATIBLE.

WHAT COULD BE MORE INTELLIGENT THAN EVOLUTION?

BTW, it's why Izlam is so stupid. It will not and cannot evolve!

kaffirchick - Thank you; I have emailed the cartoonist with my positive comments.

Well, sure it's a religion of peace. Have you noticed how peaceful a graveyard is?

Posted by: freedomschool [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 30, 2006 6:24 PM

In Benedict's defense - and in G. W. Bush's defense too, much as, as a liberal laspsed Catholic, I find it peculiar to be defending these two men in any way - I think they are both desperately trying to do the right thing in arguing, against all evidence, that Islam is "a religion of peace." Both of them being men of strong faith but neither of them being particularly intelligent or worldly men, never a good combination, they hope that saying it so makes it so. It's naive, not evil.

Posted by: angloirishslav [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 30, 2006 6:50 PM

His Holiness has guts. But no matter what he says or does --islamists are only happy if we all submit to them as dhummis under Shairia law. The Pope knows this and I'm sure is working behind the scenes to do what ever he can in this effort. He is not fooled by them.
