Add Ustadz Abubakar's name to the growing list of converts to Islam who misunderstand their new religion, and somehow get the harebrained idea that it enjoins them to commit acts of violence against unbelievers. Imagine! They read verses such as the one commanding that Muslims wage war against Jews and Christians until they are subjugated (Qur'an 9:29) and they actually take them to mean that they should wage war against Jews and Christians until they are subjugated! The fools! What a silly, obvious misunderstanding -- one they could have avoided with just minutes of study of Islam! If only they could borrow Ibrahim Hooper's secret Qur'anic decoder ring!

A Filipino Muslim convert linked to an extremist group suspected of plotting a series of bombings in the country was arrested Saturday, a military spokesman said.Ustadz Abubakar, formerly known as Feliciano de los Reyes, was arrested while trying to flee to the southern island of Basilan, a known bastion of the Abu Sayyaf, a Muslim extremist group blamed for the worst terror attacks in the Philippines.
Abubakar is a key leader of the radical Rajah Solaiman group, whose members are Filipinos who worked in the Middle East and later converted to Islam, Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Caculitan said.
Intelligence officials have said the Rajah Solaiman group poses a major security threat to the country and has plotted terror attacks against government and US targets.
It helped the Abu Sayyaf carry out the 2004 firebombing of a ferry near Manila that killed over 100 people and bomb attacks in the financial center of Makati and two southern cities....
Intelligence officials warn that members of the group are more dangerous than other Muslim extremists as they can blend in easier with the largely-Christian populace of this country.

Poor guy- he misunderstands Islam only because his teacher was bad. His teacher must have been another of the misunderstanders. Islam is merely 1400 years of misunderstanding Mr. Perfect. I guess that just makes Muslims incredibly stupid if they haven't figured out Mo's teachings after all this time.

I imagine that he was a terrorist at heart before he even joined into the Islamic cult. I mean, c'mon, going to the Mideast didn't convert him. I suppose the excitement of the terrorism aspect of Islamonazism is what attracts a lot of young kids to it...

Hey! I got an idea: Why doesn't the Philippine govt. hire a few ships, moor them off of the Muslim islands and invite the inhabitants to get on the ships and head for S. Arabia before the islands are bombed to hell?
In Arabia they'll find lots of their fellow Filippinos living in squalor as servants to their superior Muslims!
It's too bad that this island nation, so beautiful, so full of peaceful and hospitable, devout folks, has to play host to these ingrates.

and FYI the ayat about subjugating jews and xtians IS NOT applied until islamic state is established, that would be the job for the State.

Jihadists are aggressors, no matter what version of Islam they are adhering to. Why do Muslims say that infidels, polytheists, and converts from Islam deserve to die? What version of Islam are those who say such things adhering to?

I worked in Manila for a while in '87. At that time the main problem in Luzon was the NPA (New Peoples Army, or as the locals called it, Nice People Around). They were communists.
The moros were another element from the sothernmost island of Mindanao, which has more religion-wise in common with Indonesia than the Philippines. At that time the moros were a continuation of the insurgency that Pershing fought there in the old days pre-WWI, and they did not seem to be part of the problem in Luzon.
The Abu-Sayyaf group is apparently an extenion of the old moro insurgents, but now they are attacking in Luzon and elsewhere in the upper islands.
The Philippines (like us) has to get over its Christian-liberal-PC regard for these folks, elsewise they are going to the be customers of the Islamic chopping block. Either they have to kill a lot of people now, or the reverse will happen later, but rather soon. Distasteful either way, but they (like us) must decide whether they (we) want to be the winner or the loser of this war.

I was only there just 2 months ago, and at that time in mid October was the bombings in Cotabato City. I was in Manila/Makati then, indeed for two days i stayed in Bicol where the typhoon has caused devastaion just now. But it is terrible that a country of so many beautiful people has a real problem with these ingrates in the South-East of the country. I mean they have the place called the Autonimous Region of Muslim Mindanao, isn't that enough for them to hide away in their little hole and allow the other 85 Million or so Filipinos to enjoy life as they do and can?
I think not enough importance is attached to the Philippines, as it is one of few English speaking and overwhelmingly Christian (Catholic) countries in Asia, and it is bordered by the likes of Malaysia and Indonesia. It's actually the 12th most populous nation on earth. Western governments must really give help and support for the Philippines to defeat the scourge of these islamists in their midst. Honestly those people have no right to even be called Filipino in my opinion, and as a first time visitor to the country in October, i saw the stunningly attractive Filipino women in their bright clothes, in complete contrast to the odd Muslim who wore the scarf, although no veils were seen. But in my opinion it's a crime against their society to push Islam, as the people are too beautiful to roll up in a bag.

In addition to the last post though, the Philippines are fair dinkum about stopping terrorism. In all the main shops and malls, especially in the big cities, they have armed guards who will use metal detectors and also frisk the clothing of people as they go in and out. The Australian Embassy building there had almost a SWAT team with rifles and the like around the perimeter, although to be honest the presence of these gave me much comfort. I could handle that sort of security safe in the knowledge that if you have nothing to hide and nothing bad to do, you're O.K. But i think if anyone tried some funny stuff there, they'd get a taste of summary justice!

Like all viruses, Islam has mutated into a hundred versions so you are incorrect to state there is one and only one version we should hate. I personally hate them all (EOH) including your version and am looking forward to the day when your vile religion is shoved back into the bottle in the desert it crawled out of.
Back OT, I agree with the posters that say we should support the Philippines and the US military is to my knowledge. In fact we should be supporting all front line states that are facing the Islamists.
But the problem in many of these front line states is that there is limited support amongst the locals for US (imperialistic?) assistance. Thus, it appears only by educating these people to the dangers of the virus that is Islam, can they save themselves from future, bigger headaches and loss of life of a significant portion of their population. And working to make Jihad Watch available to these populations would go along way towards this objective.

Why are we surprised when converts are so often worse than those born into Islam? When you are talking about a billion people, of course there have to be a lot of decent people, even if they are taught an ugly ideology.
I wonder, though, how easy it is these days to innocently convert to Islam. Personally, I never would embrace a religion or ideology without doing some pretty thorough research, but I realize that not everyone thinks that way.
I can imagine a time when a Westerner might embrace Islam for an innocent if superficial reason--they had a nice Muslim neighbor or college roommate, or they were inspired by a visit to the Blue Mosque, or by reading the poetry of Rumi.
But now it would seem that even the most obtuse and uninformed person would take pause thinking about Islam, given the weight of violence and atrocity coverered even in the MSM.
I'm sure there are still some few innocent converts to Islam, but I imagine there are many more at this point who are specifically attracted to Islam by the grotesque violence of Jihad.
