No doubt another fundamentalist Christian run amok. "Man arrested in mall attack plot, source says," from CNN, with thanks to all who sent this in:
CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) -- A 22-year-old man was arrested in Chicago, Illinois, this week in connection with a plot to detonate explosives in malls, a federal law enforcement source said.The man -- described as a U.S. citizen named Derrick Shareef -- faces charges for allegedly planning to set off hand grenades in garbage cans in malls during the holiday season.
He was arrested Wednesday, the source said.
A criminal complaint filed against him was unsealed Friday. He is to be charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and with planning to damage or destroy buildings by fire or explosion, the source said.
He was allegedly working by himself, and was not affiliated with a particular group, the source said. A confidential source working with the FBI alerted them to the alleged plot.

NBC & AP report on MSNBC contends:
"Federal officials said that in September, Shareef became acquainted with a witness who was cooperating with the FBI and confided to him that he wanted
to commit acts of “violent jihad,”
as well as other crimes.
The FBI has been aware of the plot and has been monitoring him closely, sources said.
The plan was allegedly ideologically motivated."
The editor takes pains to try to minimize this ideological threat by including:
"Shareef had no accomplices and was not part of a terrorist cell, sources said.

I seem to recall many many calls by AlQaeda for Muslims around the World and in America to " Do what they can " and " try to kill Americans and their allies " is this Guy a Muslim? i assume with a name like Shareef , he is.

they said he is not al-qaeda, but then he just belongs to the biggest terrorists group, aka islam. it seems only the pious true believers find those words from the koran to instruct them to attack non muslims..and of course the libs will say he is a victim.. or its Israel's fault! yeah.. his family will say, he was such a good boy, l dont know where he gets that.. well for straters, how about the dinner talk about its all the Jews fault, and Bush, and so this pious young muslims reads his koran and acts out it demands.. like black magic you have a terrorists in the workings.

FBI: Man planned "to disrupt Christmas" with "acts of jihad"
DECEMBER 8--An Illinois man plotted to set off hand grenades at a Chicago-area shopping mall in a holiday season terror campaign that was thwarted by federal investigators. According to an FBI affidavit, Derrick Shareef, 22, told a confidential source that he wanted to "commit violent acts of jihad," and spoke of killing judges and blowing up public buildings. A copy of the affidavit can be found below. Shareef told the snitch that he sought "to disrupt Christmas," adding that, "I swear by Allah man, I'm down for it too, I'm down for the cause, I'm down to live for the cause and die for the cause, man." The document does not further describe the supposed cause of Shareef, who was named today in a federal felony complaint. Shareef is quoted telling the FBI source, "I probably would have eventually ended up stabbing the shit outta some Jews or something. Just stabbing them niggers with a steak knife...Because during that war with Hezbollah, man, I had already started to look at synagogues out here..." In advance of a planned attack on a Rockford mall, Shareef prepared a martyr's videotape in which he let the "enemies of Islam" know that "the time for jihad is now." He added, "This is a warning to those who disbelieve, that we are here for you, and I am ready to give my life...May Allah protect me on this mission we conduct." (11 pages)

An earlier report said that the perp was "ideologically motivated." I can just hear the meeting in the newsroom: "Now listen everybody, we're going to use the term ideologically motivated instead of Muslim or Islamic from now on. No use giving the right-wingers more ammo."

It appears the quality of jihadists is declining. For some reason, he doesn't strike me as the electrical engineer type. He scares me more for appearing a crackhead than for appearing a jihadist. When in doubt, send to Gitmo.

That was my first impression, but I saw this quote then:

He knew how to make the 'Martyr Video'. IMHO, most crackheads don't have the initive to do this. He also said "the time for jihad is now.". Where did he hear this? At the local mosque...THAT scares me.

I just hope C.A.I.R. gets involved in this case so they pay for his defense instead of the american tax payers shelling out 100s of thousands of dollars for the best defense kafir money can buy! This has all the signs of being a CNN story. Notice how CNN is covering for the Islamic terrorist pretending there is no indication that he is affiliated w/ any particular group.
They say he wanted to set off hand gernades during the holiday season, but in his own words he wanted to "disrupt Christmas."
Is the ACLU going to defend his freedom of expression? I wouldn't be surprised at all.
I can't wait to hear CAIR talk about how we mustn't judge him, but that we really need to understand what causes a young man like him to want to lash out at American society in such a way.
This is war and we need to start picking sides...
