"At present we are paying 8 millions a year for the privilege of living on an ungrateful volcano"

"At present we are paying 8 millions a year for the privilege of living on an ungrateful volcano out of which we are in no circumstances to get anything worth having" -- Winston Churchill on Iraq, in a September 1922 letter to David Lloyd George (thanks to Andrew Bostom).

Eight million a year?!

Those were the days!!!

And you know who you were then. Girls were girls and men were men.

Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again.

“Such is the spirit, which governs the hearts of men, to whom treachery and violence are taught as principles of religion.” John Quincy Adams - 6th President of the United States (1825-1829) On Islam.

If the military were allowed to fight this war like they did during the WW2 such as the article by John Lewis, there would be better results and quicker.

Churchill's wisdom/advice from 1922 -1945 is still greater than any world leader since.

History is speaking to us, let's not ignore a man who's been proven correct by history.

Its funny how united Jihad Watchers are in their yearning for old Winston. Self included.

WWWD (What Would Winston Do?) I like to imagine it.

The more things change the more they stay the same. Once again Churchill is the best statesman of today-over 40 years after his death.

Impossible, how could Iraq have been a volcano before the existence of Israel?? Wasn't everything wonderful before Israel?

I do not believe that God will allow this generation to pass without another Winston Churchill. Though nobody can replace Churchill himself I believe we will get our own this generation as the Islamic menace rises.

Islam = Nazism

My British grandfather served in the Tigris valley in 1921. Apparently he never talked much about his experiences. He did say, though, that his year in Mesopotamia was worse than four years of fighting the Germans in World War I.
