Tiny Minority of Extremists Update: this kind of thing seems to play very well at the Hajj. "Muslim haj pilgrims perform devil-stoning ritual," by Souhail Karam for Reuters, with thanks to LGF:
MENA, Saudi Arabia, Dec 31 (Reuters) - More than 2.5 million Muslim haj pilgrims performed devil-stoning rites on Sunday, amid tight security to prevent overcrowding and protests following the execution of Saddam Hussein.The 5-day haj, marred by deadly stampedes in recent years, was overshadowed by the hanging on Saturday of the former Iraqi leader, a hero to some Sunni Arabs because of his anti-U.S. stance, but hated by many Shi'ites.
"The number one Satan is America," said Iraqi pilgrim Suleiman Awadallah, who described himself as "a resistance fighter", after performing the stoning ritual.
"The prayers of all Muslims when they cast their stones at the devil must be directed at (U.S. President George) Bush and his devilish allies in America and the Arab world."
Ahmed al-Dosary from Kuwait agreed. "I prayed for myself, my family and for the end of the main evil, the United States."

Mr. Ahmed al-Dosary from Kuwait seems to have forgotten how the "main evil, the United States" came to his country's rescue in 1991. Or maybe he was really on the side of that "main good, Iraq and Saddam"?

The idea, which has been shouted daily for almost 30 years since the fall of the Shah, that America is the "Great Satan" illustrates the overwhelmingly political nature of Islam. For most people, the struggle against evil (Satan, or whatever) is a personal struggle (to which Islam pays lip service, calling this struggle the "Greater Jihad"). However when you define Satan as a collective, human, political entity, which America is, you define your struggle as purely political, and not spiritual at all. No surprise here, just further proof of the duplicity of Islams who insist that jihad is misunderstood and is really a personal endeavor...

there are two jihads, the lesser and the greater jihad.
the lesser of the two jihads consist of attacking robbing raping torturing terrorizing subduing enslaving and slaughtering nonmuslims!
the greater jihad consist of struggling to remain a muslim!
only the lesser jihad is obligatory on all muslims who are mature and sane!

Jihad refers to the inner struggle that Muslims experience trying to figure out the best way to conquer and subjugate the infidel. Jihad is also their inner struggle to cook up the best taqiyya to deceive the infidel

"Circumbobulating" is what you do when you are trying to keep your boat from sinking in rough seas, and it bobs up and down on and in the waves as you go round and round some fixed but apparently unattainable point.
"Circumbambulating" is what a doe does as she tenderly moves slowly round and round her little fawn, making sure that every need is attended to.
"Circumambulate" is what 2 million Muslim pilgrims are apparently doing right now, that is walking widdershins seven times around the Magic Wonderstone, in a ritual that may remind some of strange customs only read about in books, customs from a long time ago.
On the other hand, "circumbombinate" is what busy neighborhood male bees do when they bombinate round that girl down the street, the good-looking one they call "Honeysuckle Rose."

Oh yeah. The holy sacrament this weekend is where the Moslems run down innocent animals, wrestle them to the ground and slash their throats.
From throwing rocks at the devil to soaking themselves in fresh warm animal blood to self-flagelation, the path of Moslem men is never dull and always intense.
On the positive side of the ledger, a recent edict from the Taliban brass make it against the rules to take boys too young to have facial hair into their tents.
Good for young Afghani boys; not so good for the not-so-young Afghani boys with wisps of facial hair. They're gonna be busy in '07.

Sounds like buying books, and schools, and roads, and sporting gear, and water purification plants, and wastewater facilities, and cars, and pipelines hasn't had the desired effect yet.
I think we need to do some more work on the infrastructure. Maybe a movie theater.

If throwing rocks were ever to become an event at the Olympic Games, perhaps the Islamic world would bring home a medal, which would also likely end up being thrown at an Israeli tank, or at Jews or Christians who are in the middle of their prayers.

During the hadj, particularly devil stoning rites the muslim crowds are densely packed..
I wonder, if by any chance one of them carries a flask containing a biologically lethal strain with a highest contamination risk (the way studied and cultivated at the CDC Atlanta)...
The flask gets broken, the virus spreads...and..
The EU and the USA may be forced to apply quarantine rules, that is, not only deny entry to pilgrims on their way back from hadj but also to all people from islamic countries..
On that account, strict security checks may be applied with no rants and raves and protests.
The legal excuses for ban on goods imports as well as free circulation from islamic nations may now be justifiable..
Just an idea..
May be elaborated of course, I am no match for movie scenarists..

The History Channel showed a program on Astorides. During which "Scientests" suggested the "Black Stome" the Muslims are currently walking arround. Might actually be a Meteor. Of course, no one is allowed to "test" it. Big suprise.
