Algerian jihad group threatens French interests

As per statements from al-Zawahiri. It is interesting that France would be regarded as the enemy despite all their efforts to accommodate. "Algerian Islamist group threatens French interests," by Adrian Morgan for Spero News:

The Algerian terror group GSPC (Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat) has long touted its connections to Al Qaeda. However, a video speech by Ayman al-Zawahiri, published on a jihadist website on September 11 2006, for the first time confirmed this from Al Qaeda's perspective. The video also said that the GSPC was being urged to attack France. Zawahiri also said that there would be new attacks against the Gulf and against Israel.

In the video, the deputy leader of Al Qaeda said: "Osama Bin Laden has told me to announce to Muslims that the GSPC has joined al-Qaeda. This should be a source of chagrin, frustration and sadness for the apostates [of the regime in Algeria], the treacherous sons of France."

He said that GSPC should be "a bone in the throat of the American and French crusaders. We pray to God that our brothers from the GSPC succeed in causing harm to the top members of the crusader coalition, and particularly their leader, the vicious America."

French terror experts were taking the implied threats seriously. In September 2005 the GSPC's leader, Abu Mossab Abdelwadoud aka Abdelmalek Dourkda made in internet statement, in which he threatened France and Algeria. He mentioned France 15 times. He said: "France is our enemy number one, the enemy of our religion, the enemy of our community."

Read it all.

"It is interesting that France would be regarded as the enemy despite all their efforts to accommodate"

France (as the old colonial power) has always been the main enemy for Algerian Jihadists. The GSPC cares little for France's "efforts to accommodate"(who exactly?). veil ban or no veil ban, the GSPC and the GIA and the FIS before them were always anti-french.

The american perception of France as weak on terror is wrong, behind the scenes France has been very active and effective.

you mean these islamist dont just love Chirac? the French are so condenscending towards the US and those who want to fight terrorism, that they are being attacked with their heads in the sand. what really maddens me, is that they placed in safe areas in Afganistan where they dont have to do combat, where as the Amer,Brits, Cdns ect are doing most of the hard work. oh well l have less love for France, even though some of my acnestors came from there. l think the gene pool in France has suffered since the
sixteenhundreds.

"the French are so condenscending towards the US and those who want to fight terrorism"

Do a search on Jean-louis bruguiere for starters, french anti-terrorist laws are some of the most stringent in the western world and they regularly cooperate and share information with the americans.

not wanting to go into Irak does not mean the French are condenscending towards those who want to fight terrorism.

The French correctly understood that removing a secular leader probably isnt the best of ideas

The French have interests????

"Out of the nearly 60,000 prisoners in French prisons, only 99 are being held on terrorism-related charges [2]. Of these, ... 30 of the 90 are heavily engaged in radical Islamist proselytism."

.....For a country that has a serious Muslim threat and is under Muslim attack...there is something wrong with this number.....France does arrest Muslim, but usually releases them in short order......

Posted by: exsgtbrown [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 12, 2007 7:15 AM

Yes Zena, the Islamists do love him. Chirac has become a wealthy man at the expense of his own people. The Moroccans have made him a millionaire as well as an "unconditional" of the Kingdom of Hassan II of Morocco.

Posted by: Joseph [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 12, 2007 7:39 AM

It would be nice to see France finally taking Muslim terrorism seriously rather than trying to coddle it. Unfortunately, as long as Chirac and company are running things that will never be the case.

It is pretty hard to have any synpathy at all for the French. They have repeatedly betrayed America, selling weapons to our enemies and not permitting our planes to fly through their airspace on retaliatory strikes against countries like Libya after our servicement were murdered in Berlin. They were of no help in Iraq at all. They provided little or no aid to the victims of hurricane Katrina. It has all been done out of France's jvenille penile envy. They just can't handle the fact that we are the world's greatest superpower and they are basically nothing now. They are no longer a great power. They are a joke who nobody takes seriously any more. Let them stew alone in the Islamic mess they created for themselves. We don't neet them to defend ourselves.....

Don't forget the French threatened to shoot down Israeli surveillance jets overflying Lebanon and the French openly stated they would not fire on Hizabollah terrorists (not to mention refusing to stop Hizbollah from resupplying right under the French "peacekeepers--a misnomer if there ever was one" noses.
In fact, I believe the French were supplying some of the terrorists with weapons.....how are you going to promise to watch for terrorist activities when you are supplying them????

"French Crusaders".....these funny muslims

Posted by: W_D_J_D [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 12, 2007 9:11 AM

Yes, it's true. Many of the French have become Islamo-puppets. There are few countries I have been to in Europe that are as PC-obsessed as the French. A total loss of French identity seems to be the end-game. And it pains me to say that as I am of French extraction myself.

I think we need the French police who taught some Algerians to swim in the 50's. Just half kidding.

The French had an alternative point of view as pointed out by theeternalmuz.

But they have been very helpful with intelligence to the USA.

The French Alternative view is wrong because we would end up fighting anyway, small pin prick attacks as we suffered in the past would become mass murder with WMD's. The half-cocked USA attempt to change the Middle East was better but missed the point on Islam.

The Islamics are ahead of us, because they keep saying that there is a war/attack against Islam, in fact what it really means is that the only way to defeat them is to take on Islam as a faith, system etc. But the Jihadists then take their rightful place as war leaders, they will be famous , etc... etc..., egotistical gits.

Brutally there is no chance of winning in the USA approach as we are trying to give freedom and democracy, which in itself is not really understood in the West anymore to people who are just starting off in the long struggle to develop it.

Very interesting link from Gates of Vienna

http://www.sappho.dk/Den%20loebende/freespeech.html

After reading this even the most stupid can get it, if they dare open their eyes ears and brain of course.

So please lay of the French deserve it rubbish, isn't it punishment enough to see a country that was once one of the strongest on the planet in the pitiful state it is in now, and as a Brit living in France I will say the same about Britain.

Posted by: Daffersd [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 12, 2007 11:57 AM

L'éclat est de la fleur française. Oh no the bloom is off the French flower........guess unlike in Iraq that Chirac and the frogs were not selling weapons of mass destruction and missiles to kill Americans, so without the WMD souffle the French have joined the Crusaders.
The French used to have such great leaders like Montecalm, but perhaps if they get tossed in with the adult Americans and have to learn to fight with the big boys they might become the people they are instead of the kowtowing trolls they have become.

It's no secret. The French have always been in bed with the arabs in the ME. They have been motived throughout history by power and the desire to secure wealth.

When we went against them in Iraq, they threw a fit. When smaller nations stood against their policies in the EU, they suggested that these smaller nations were not relevant and should "shut their mouth".

Chirac is a major JERK and is arrogant and obnoxious. The French people are guilty because they keep electing him. Chirac, Russia, Germany were ALL ticked about us going into Iraq because they had dirty deals with Saddam.

Interestingly enough, EVERY country that was ONCE a major world power (France, Germany, England, Russia) have a strong American sentiment because under it all, they are jealous that we still have power that they once had.

This is the real reason for the EU. It was not only to join forces to prevent wars, but to have more political and economic power than the US. They LONG to push the US around. It's the one thing that they lust after the most.

France has made stupid decisions, in that they, like most countries in the EU, have allowed immigration of muslims, just as the United States has turned a blind eye to the illegal immigration in this country - so that they would be able to fund their 'pensions' (social security system). Europeans, like Americans, were not having enough kids to care for the babyboomers. They also needed the tax money in future.

The mistake the French and Europeans have made is in allowing Islam to take a foothold. You would have thought they would have remembered Islams historical attempt to overrun Europe.

What I cannot understand, and I really do wish someone on this board would express their opinion, is why our media (owned by corporations) and our politicians are catering to Islam.

What do they stand to gain?

Goobs,

Filthy oil blood money. Those parasites in the upper echelons of government, media, education do not care about thier constituents at all. They are just after a piece of the petrodollar action at the expense of thier children's futures.

Squire, I agree fully....but it's probably not just oil.

Posted by: The Goobs at January 12, 2007 12:56 PM

The politicians cater to Islam because they've been corrupted by oil money. Politicians might start out with the best of intentions but once they stick around long enough they can't ever conceive of losing the fame, the power, the perks and the money that come with holding office. It's an addiction to the job fed by our good buddies from places like Riyadh with plenty of money.
As for the media, if someone does enough digging sooner or later someone will find a connection to more of that oil money. Even supposedly rightist Fox network has some Saudi ownership. Given that connection it's no wonder why we hear how peaceful Islam is from the media all the time. My guess is that all these people and organizations care about nothing but money, will do their masters' bidding to the point of destroying America as we have known it and hope to keep on profiting even after the Caliphate of North America is established as a token of gratitude in helping Islam achieve its goal. Such fools and tools, however, will be bitterly disappointed because if Islam does indeed reach its goal of destroying the US Islam will merely exterminate them as well.

I think it is more likely they will just change their allegiances (puppet masters) and convert to Islam. Whatever keeps them in power.

In addition to the power and wealth politicians derive from coddling Islam, I also believe their is another powerful force at work. A force exemplified by the far-leftists like George Soros. Frequently found throughout academia, there are many who truly don't understand Islam. I don't think they even want to understand it. And I think everyone who comments here knows what and who I'm talking about. Though I think they truly mean well, they are brainwashed into believing that if enough good will and tolerance is shown that the brotherhood of all mankind can be achieved. A man-made utopia on earth.

Remember the "flower children" and the "make love not war" types from the '60s? Or the LSD-advocating Dr. Timothy Leary? Those types still exist. I met plenty of them in college.

Unfortunately, I do remember.

No doubt the ones you met in college were the lefty-liberal professors (life-long students) that are spitting out idiots from our universities today.

Unfortunately, in a large part because of age-discriminaion, these are the same idiots that will be running our country if folks do not step up to the plate and demand accountability from our Government and Universities.

My American friends this twat is pulling your leg, French had a fine culture, but it is a shadow of what it was. When you talk to French people about the world, you often feel like your talking to La Monde, its that sad, superficial and fed information, people manipulated into truths that are far from that. You see the same across Europe.
